Climate control system

Description

Operation

One of the following options may be available,

depending on vehicle equipment:

– A deluxe automatic climate control system with

three zones where the temperature, air distri-

bution, and air supply can be set separately on

the left and right front sides, and the tempera-

ture can be set separately in the rear

– A deluxe automatic climate control system with

four zones to individually adjust the tempera-

ture, air distribution, and amount of ventilation

at all of the seats

Settings are adjusted using both displays, the

switch panel in the center console, and the con-

trol panel in the rear. For information on how to

operate the touch displays, see ðpage 21, Touch

displays.

The climate control system warms, cools, dehu-

midifies, and filters the air in the vehicle interior.

It is the most effective when the windows and,

depending on vehicle equipment, the roof are

closed. If there is a build-up of heat inside the ve-

hicle, ventilation can help to speed up the cooling

process.

You can adjust all climate control system settings

in the front; only certain functions are available

in the rear.

Lower display

The deluxe climate control system automatically

maintains a temperature once it has been set. In

all heating mode functions except defrost, the

blower only switches to a higher speed once the

coolant has reached a certain temperature.

The lower display has two sections with controls:

You can regulate the blower and the air distribu-

tion automatically using AUTO in area 1 . You can

also apply individual settings here.

Active combination filter

In area 2 , you can turn individual climate control

system functions on and off.

When the fan is running, the filter will reduce

particulate matter and the concentration of pol-

len, as well as odors in the interior.

Switch panel in the center console

Both the  and  buttons for defogging win-

dows as quickly as possible are located in area

– To prevent interference with the heating or

cooling output and to prevent the windows

from fogging over, the air intake in front of

the windshield must be free of ice, snow,

and leaves.

Upper display

In the upper display, you can turn additional

functions on and off, display them, and adjust

settings.

– Condensation from the cooling system can

drip and form a puddle of water under the

vehicle. This is normal and does not mean

there is a leak.

– The energy management system may tem-

porarily turn off certain functions, such as

the seat heating or rear window defogger.

You can operate certain climate control functions

in the rear using the control panel.

OFF Turning off

Customizing

The climate control system is turned off. Air sup-

ply from the outside is blocked. If you press OFF

in the front, the front and rear climate control

system will turn off. Depending on vehicle equip-

ment, you can press OFF in the rear control panel

to turn off the rear climate control system. To

turn on the climate control system again, press

any button in the respective display.

A climate control function from the upper display

can be assigned to each button to the left and

right of  in area 2 .

Press and hold the symbol for the desired func-

tion on the upper display for at least three sec-

onds. A menu that consists of two sections ap-

pears.

A/C /  Cooling mode

►

If you pull the symbol toward the left section,

the button to the left of  will be assigned.

If you pull the symbol toward the right section,

the button to the right of  will be assigned.

The cooling mode only functions with the blower

turned on. The air is not cooled and humidity is

not reduced when cooling mode is turned off.

This can cause fog on the windows. The cooling

mode turns off automatically at low outside tem-

peratures.

Settings

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or off.

One bar in the button or the LED in the button

will light up when the function is turned on.

Some buttons can have several functions as-

signed to them. The various functions can be ac-

tivated by pressing the button multiple times.

If you activate the A/C, the cooling mode will be

automatically regulated.

If you activate , the cooling mode will run with

maximum cooling output and maximum blower

speed. To reduce unnecessary energy usage, only

use this function briefly. In unfavorable weather

conditions, this function may increase the fog-

ging on the windows.

AUTO Automatic mode

The automatic mode regulates the amount of air

and air distribution automatically, so that the set

temperature is reached is quickly as possible.

 /  Temperature

Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and 84 °F

(+28 °C) can be set. If outside of this range,

LOW / LO or HIGH / HI will appear in the display.

In both settings, the climate control runs con-

stantly at the maximum cooling or heating level.

REAR Rear climate control system

To enable operation of the climate control sys-

tem from the rear of the vehicle, press REAR.

To exit this mode again, press REAR or

REAR MODE EXIT.

 Blower

SYNC Synchronization

With  / , you can manually adjust the vol-

ume of air generated by the blower to your pref-

erences. The blower setting should not be set too

low in order to prevent the windows from fog-

ging and to ensure a continuous exchange of air

inside the vehicle. To have the blower regulated

automatically, press AUTO.

When synchronization is turned on, the tempera-

ture, air distribution, and blower strength on the

driver's side is applied to all seat positions. You

can also control the synchronization directly us-

ing a gesture. Pull two fingers together on the

lower display ðpage 21.



If the child safety lock is active, then the settings

from the cockpit will be applied. To limit the cli-

mate control settings in the rear, select: SET-

 Seat heating

To help prevent the front side windows from fog-

ging over, open the side air vents and angle them

toward the side windows.

The seat heating temperature can be set at vari-

ous levels. Press  once to turn on the highest

level. Press  again to decrease the temperature

one level at a time. The seat heating is turned off

if the button is not illuminated.

With  /  / , you can select the vents from

which the air will flow. To have the air distribu-

tion controlled automatically, press the AUTO

button or deactivate all three arrows. With ,

the air will be directed toward the windshield.

 Seat ventilation

Applies to: vehicles with seat ventilation

The seat ventilation intensity can be set to multi-

ple levels. Press  once to turn on the highest

level. Press  again to decrease the heat level

one level at a time. The seat ventilation is turned

off if the button is not illuminated.

Applies to: vehicles with 4-zone automatic cli-

mate control: You can press  in the rear control

panel multiple times to adjust the air distribution

based on the direction of the arrow.

 Child safety lock

 Defrosting

If  turns on in the control panel in the rear, the

child safety lock is active and operation is blocked

ðpage 48.

The windshield and side windows are defrosted

or cleared of condensation as quickly as possible.

Open the side air vents and angle them toward

the side windows. The maximum amount of air

flows mainly from the vents below the wind-

shield. Recirculation mode turns off. Depending

on the outside temperature, the A/C cooling

mode may automatically turn on.

 Ionizer

Applies to: vehicles with ionizer

Hazardous particles and germs in the air may be

reduced through ionization. This helps to im-

prove the air quality for individuals in the passen-

ger compartment.

 Rear window defogger

The rear window defogger only operates when

the engine is running. It turns off automatically

after 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the outside

temperature.

 Fragrance

Applies to: vehicles with fragrance function

The fragrance function will dispense a scent in

the vehicle interior. It is dispensed through the

front outer vents. This will produce a pleasant

scent. The fragrance is time-delayed, especially

at low or high temperatures. You can adjust the

fragrance function ðpage 96.

To prevent the rear window defogger from turn-

ing off automatically, press and hold the  but-

ton for more than three seconds. It will remain

on until the ignition is turned off.

 /  Recirculation mode

Residual heat

In recirculation mode, the air inside the vehicle is

circulated and filtered. This prevents the unfil-

tered air outside the vehicle from entering the

The residual heat from the coolant is used to

heat the vehicle interior. To use this function,

press and hold the  button for more than two

seconds while the ignition is off. The function will

turn off automatically after approximately 15 mi-

nutes.

Depending on the equipment, pressing  will

automatically operate the recirculation mode if

air pollution is detected.

– You should not leave the recirculation mode

mode.

– Using recirculation mode or automatic recir-

culation for an extended period of time can

fect on the well-being of vehicle occupants,

which can increase the risk of an accident.

Turn off recirculation mode or automatic re-

circulation and ventilate the vehicle at the

first sign of unwellness.

– If the front passenger's seat heating is

turned on, it will not turn on again automat-

ically if more than 10 minutes have passed

between turning off the ignition and turning

it on again.

– Applies to: vehicles with fragrance function:

Only use the fragrance function in modera-

tion and take any passengers and animals

into consideration when using the function.

An overlap of different scents or odors could

cause discomfort. If there is discomfort, re-

duce the intensity or turn off the fragrance

function. Only use fragrances that are ap-

proved by Audi.

– The vehicle is equipped with functions to au-

tomatically activate the seat heating. To re-

duce the risk of burns, individuals with re-

duced sensitivity to pain or temperature

must make sure that the seat heating is off

when starting the drive.

– When the seat heating is on, an alternating

magnetic field is created. Interactions such

as irritation of sensory organs or malfunc-

tions of active medical implants (such as

pacemakers, infusion pumps, or neurosti-

mulators) are very unlikely. If you have a

medical implant, seek medical advice from a

specialist if you have any questions.

Adjusting the vents

You can open and close the vents using the

thumbwheels. The levers adjust the direction of

the airflow from the vents.

– Make sure others in the vehicle know how to

use the seat heating safely.

Additional settings

Note

You can adjust additional settings.

– To reduce the risk of damage to the seat

heating elements, do not kneel on the seats

or place heavy pressure on one area of the

seat.

Fragrance

– Only use the seat heating when the seat sur-

face is dry.

Using Fragrance selection, you can select the fra-

tective seat covers and do not put items

A schematic display represents the effectiveness

of the filter. The display visualizes the amount of

pollutant particles in the vehicle interior in com-

parison to the surroundings.

Fluids in the A/C system

Particulate matter sensor

Applies to: vehicles with particulate matter sensor

Refrigerant in the A/C system

The sticker in the engine compartment provides

information about the type and amount of refrig-

erant used in the vehicle’s A/C system. The stick-

er is located in the front section of the engine

compartment or at the front or back of the hood.

A sensor detects the particulate matter concen-

tration (PM2.5) outside and inside the vehicle.

The detected values are displayed as the air qual-

ity index (AQI) on a colored scale 1 . A value in

the green range indicates very good air quality.

Symbol Meaning

The system displays the approximate values,

which may differ from actual conditions. In cer-

tain situations, no values or values that appear to

be implausible may be displayed temporarily, or

the system may only be available to a limited ex-

tent:

Refrigerant oil in the A/C system

The sticker in the engine compartment provides

information about the type and amount of refrig-

erant oil used in the vehicle’s A/C system. For in-

formation about the amount of refrigerant oil

used, contact an authorized Audi dealer or au-

thorized Audi Service Facility.

WARNING

The climate control system may only be serv-

iced by qualified and certified technicians who

have been trained according to the country-

specific standards, for example SAE standards

J2845 and J2911.

– Refrigerant is flammable. Keep the vehicle

away from open flames, sparks, and other

ignition sources to reduce the risk of serious

injuries or death.

– The refrigerant is under pressure and can ex-

plode if heated, which increases the risk of

serious injuries or death.

– The refrigerant can create toxic vapors when

it comes in contact with hot surfaces. To re-

duce the risk of serious injuries or death, do

not inhale these vapors.

Tips

– Never repair the A/C system evaporator with

components from old vehicles or from recy-

cling.

– New replacement evaporators for portable

A/C systems must be certified and labeled

as such, so that they comply with the SAE

standard J2842 HFO-1234yf and R744.
