matic switching to online station alternatives.  
With request: switching to online station alter-  
natives must be confirmed manually.  
Online additional data  
Preferred online radio data rate  
Requirement: the MMI must be connected to the  
Internet ðpage 200, Audi connect. Depending  
on the country, a data package may also be re-  
quired ðpage 205.  
Depending on the selected radio station, you may  
be able to adjust the data rate for online radio  
ðpage 226 and for the Online station tracking.  
For optimal sound playback, press High. To re-  
duce data usage, press Low.  
When the function is turned on, additional infor-  
mation (such as album cover, artist, track) will be  
loaded depending on the availability.

Requirement: the MMI must be connected to the

native and is identified with the symbol.  
Tips  
Delays may occur when switching automati-  
cally between normal frequency bands and  
online radio.  
During reception loss in the FM frequency band,  
the radio tuner can establish a data connection

General information  
There may be different media sources and con-  
nections available depending on the vehicle  
equipment. For example, you can play media files  
using a connected USB drive or connect your mo-  
bile devices to the USB ports with charging func-  
tion and operate them through the MMI.  
Bluetooth audio player  
Applies to: vehicles with Bluetooth audio player  
With the Bluetooth audio player, you can play  
music wirelessly through the MMI from your  
Bluetooth-capable mobile device (such as a mo-  
bile phone).  
Media and format restrictions: the MMI (includ-  
ing the USB storage device connection) was test-  
ed with a variety of products and media on the  
market. However, there may be cases where indi-  
vidual devices/media and media files may not be  
recognized, may play only with restrictions, or  
may not play at all.  
Requirement: the vehicle must be stationary and  
the ignition must be turned on. The Bluetooth  
settings will open on your mobile device during  
the connection setup. The Bluetooth function  
and visibility of the MMI ðpage 242 and mobile  
device must be turned on.  
Restricted functionality: reset the MMI to the  
factory default settings if functionality is restrict-  
ed ðpage 243.  
Connecting a mobile device  
Digital Rights Management: please note that  
the media files are subject to copyright protec-  
tion.  
Applies to: MMI: Select on the home screen:  
MEDIA > Source > Connect external device >  
New connection. The available Bluetooth devi-  
ces will be displayed after several seconds.  
Press on the desired mobile device in the list of  
displayed Bluetooth devices.  
Files that are protected by DRM and are identi-  
fied with the symbol will not play.  
Data security: never store important information  
on mobile devices. Audi is not responsible for  
damaged or lost files and media.  
To update the list, press .  
A PIN for a secure Bluetooth connection will be  
generated.  
Loading times: the more files/folders/playlists  
there are on a storage medium, the longer it will  
take to load. To reduce the amount of time it  
takes the media files to load, use a storage medi-  
um that only contains media files, and create  
subfolders (for example, for each artist or al-  
bum).  
Confirm the PIN on your mobile device.  
After connecting successfully, the mobile device  
will be displayed in the Connected devices menu  
as a Bluetooth audio player.

Tips  
Additional information: when playing, audio  
files are automatically displayed with any addi-  
tional information that is stored (such as the ar-  
tist, track and album cover). If this information is  
not available on the medium, the MMI will revert  
to the local Gracenote metadata database or  
search online if necessary. See ðpage 235, On-  
line additional data. However, in some cases, the  
additional information may not be displayed.  
Check for any connection requests on your  
Bluetooth device.  
Multiple Bluetooth audio players can be  
paired with the MMI, but only one at a time  
can be active as a Bluetooth audio player  
ðpage 243.  
The supported media functions (such as  
shuffle, list view, categories, search, op-  
tions) depend on the Bluetooth device being  
used.

Note the volume setting on your Bluetooth  
device. Audi recommends setting your mo-  
bile device to the maximum volume when  
using it as a Bluetooth audio player.  
There generally are additional costs when  
using an online media service account, espe-  
cially when it is used internationally.  
Tips  
A selection of supported Bluetooth devices  
can be found in the database for tested mo-

You can play and operate various online media  
services, such as music streaming services, using  
the MMI.  
USB adapter  
Requirement: a supported online media service  
must be available in the country where the vehi-  
cle is being operated. you must be logged in to  
your myAudi account in the vehicle. The MMI  
must be connected to the Internet ðpage 200,  
Audi connect. Depending on the country, a data  
package may also be required ðpage 205.

You can connect your mobile devices to the MMI  
using the USB ports with charging function with a  
USB adapter, and charge the battery at the same  
time.  
MEDIA > Source > Streaming services. All sup-  
ported online services in your country will be  
displayed for the user that is logged in.  
Press on the desired online media service and  
follow the system instructions.  
You can purchase the USB adapter cable from an  
authorized Audi dealer or at specialty stores:  
After successfully logging in, the online media  
service will be available as a media source.

Apple devices with a dock connector can only  
be charged using a USB adapter designed for  
devices with a dock connector. Data cannot be  
transmitted.

USB ports with charging function  
Never leave mobile devices in the vehicle in  
extremely high or low temperatures.  
Connect your mobile devices to the USB ports in  
order to operate the devices through the MMI  
and charge the batteries.  
Tips  
The USB ports are located in the front center con-  
sole and are labeled with the symbol. If multi-  
ple USB devices are connected to the USB ports  
(for example, a smartphone and a USB flash  
drive), any of these devices can be used as the  
playback source.  
Always follow the information found in  
ðpage 83.  
When you turn off the ignition, the USB  
ports will still be supplied with power until  
the energy management system turns them  
off.  
Do not use additional adapter cables or USB  
extension cables to connect mobile devices  
to USB ports that already have a cable or  
that must be connected with a USB adapter  
cable (ðpage 230, fig. 161). Using an addi-  
tional adapter or USB extension cable may  
impair functionality.  
Connecting or charging mobile devices using  
a USB adapter  
Connect the matching USB adapter to a USB  
port and to the mobile device, such as a smart-  
phone.  
The battery will charge automatically.  
Functionality is not guaranteed for mobile  
devices that do not conform to the USB 2.0  
specification.  
Mobile devices connected to the USB ports are  
started and operated using the MMI ðpage 232.  
USB hubs are not supported.  
Disconnecting a mobile device from the USB  
port

Video playback through the USB ports is  
not supported on Apple devices and MTP de-  
vices (such as smartphones).  
Remove the USB adapter cable from the USB  
port.  
iPod touch or iPhone malfunctions also af-  
fect the operation of the MMI. Reset your  
mobile device in these situations.  
WARNING  
Driving requires your complete and undivided  
attention. As the driver, you have complete re-  
sponsibility for safety in traffic. Never operate  
mobile devices while driving, because this in-  
creases the risk of an accident.  
Audi recommends updating the iPod touch  
or iPhone software to the latest version. Re-  
fer to your mobile device owner's manual  
for more information.  
USB adapters on the USB ports will support  
iPod touch or iPhone devices from the 5th  
generation or newer with a lightning con-  
nector.  
Note  
Disconnect the connector from the USB port  
carefully to reduce the risk of damaging  
them.

Accessing media  
There are various categories available in the me-  
dia center. You can also search for media files  
across sources. The current music track continues  
playing while you search the MMI.  
Playing media files using the MMI  
Applies to: MMI: Select on the home screen:  
MEDIA > Source > a source. Depending on the  
connected device or online media service*, the  
symbol for a source may change. The device  
name may be displayed (for example: my-  
Phone).  
Opening the media center  
Applies to: MMI: Select on the home screen:  
MEDIA > Source > a source > a category.

Select the radio/media tab in the instrument  
cluster.  
The device name of the source that is currently in  
use is displayed.  
Press the button to toggle between the ra-  
dio and media or to select a different source.

and a smart playlist with similar tracks will be  
shown.

Aspect ratio  
When the function is turned on, additional infor-  
mation (such as album cover, artist, track) will be  
loaded depending on the availability.  
Audi recommends the Auto setting for the pic-  
ture format. If you press on an aspect ratio, you  
will see a preview of the setting on the screen.  
Press OK to apply the selected aspect ratio.
