Brakes -> Principle of operation for Your Ford Ka 2 Door First Generation (1996-2008)

Brakes
After leaving a carwash, dab the
brake pedal while driving to remove
the film of water.
PRINCIPLE OF
OPERATION
Dual circuit braking system
Brake wear warning
indicator
WARNING
If a brake circuit fails, you will at
first experience a softer feel to
the brake pedal. You will then need
to exert a greater force on the brake
pedal, and make allowance for
increased stopping distances. Have
the braking system checked by an
expert before continuing your
journey.
WARNING
When the warning sounds, have
the brake system checked by
an expert immediately.
Once the brake pads have met or
exceeded their useful life, a built-in
system will cause a metallic sound
upon brake application.
HINTS ON DRIVING WITH
ABS
WARNING
Although the ABS ensures
optimum braking efficiency,
stopping distances can vary greatly
depending on the road surface and
conditions. Use of the ABS cannot
eliminate the dangers inherent in
driving too close to the vehicle in front
of you, aquaplaning, excessive
cornering speed or poor road
surfaces.
E66564
Your vehicle is equipped with a
diagonally split dual circuit braking
system. If one of the brake circuits
fails, the other remains operative.
Disc brakes
E66565
E66566
Wet brake discs result in reduced
braking efficiency.
