Keepiing the air-waterr duct free  
Bring the vehicle and wheels into a suitable  
position so that you can position the gauge.  
To avoid an inaccurate measurement:

Make sure the wheels are suitably posi-  
tioned.

Keep the area between the hood and the  
windshield free of deposits, e.g. ice, snow and  
leaves.

The positioning of gauge 3 depends on the  
vehicle equipment. The gauge is positioned at  
point 3, which is located either in the center  
of the brakepad or at the upper end to the  
side, depending on the brake caliper.

In the case of perforated brake discs, do  
not put the measuring pin on one of the  
bores in the brake disc.

Secure the vehicle against rolling away.

Take the gauge out of the vehicle document  
wallet in the glove box.

Place the gauge between the wheel's spokes  
in position 3 on the brakepad.  
The braking eꢀect is reduced aꢃer washing  
the vehicle.  
Hold the gauge vertically to the brake disc and  
slide measuring pin 2 onto brake disc 1.

Aꢃer the vehicle has been washed, brake  
Check which color ꢁeld 4 the arrow on  
measuring pin is pointing to.  
Green: the brakepad thickness is suꢂcient.

NOTE Damage from automatic braking  
For vehicles with automatic transmission:  
If you leave the vehicle while it is being  
washed, make sure the SmartKey is loca-  
ted in the vehicle. The park position j is  
otherwise automatically engaged.  
If one of the following functions is switched  
on, the vehicle brakes automatically in certain  
situations:  
Ensure that the clearance width of the  
car wash, in particular the width of the  
guide rails, is suꢂcient.

Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC

If, aꢃer the car wash, you remove the wax  
from the windshield and wiper rubbers, this  
will prevent smearing and reduce wiper noise.  
To avoid damage to your vehicle when using a car  
wash, ensure the following beforehand:

Active Parking Assist

Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is deactiva-  
ted.  
Automatic car wash mode  
To avoid damage to the vehicle, deactivate  
these systems in the following or similar situa-  
tions:  
In car wash mode, the vehicle is prepared for driv-  
ing into the automatic car wash. Car wash mode  
can be activated at a speed of up to 12 mph  
(20 km/h) Activate (/ page 266) .

The HOLD function is switched oꢀ.  
R
The surround view camera or the rear view  
camera is switched oꢀ.

During towing

In a car wash

The side windows and sliding sunroof are com-  
pletely closed.  
The following settings are made when car wash  
mode is activated:

The blower for the ventilation and heating is  
switched oꢀ.

The outside mirrors are folded in.

Before driving into a car wash make sure  
that the car wash is suitable for the vehi-  
cle dimensions.

To prevent the windshield washer system from  
starting up automatically, the rain sensor is  
deactivated.

The windshield wiper switch is in position g.  
R
The SmartKey is at a minimum distance of  
10 ꢃ (3 m) away from the vehicle. Otherwise,  
the trunk lid could open unintentionally.  
R
R
The rear window wiper is deactivated.  
The air conditioning system is set to air-recir-  
culation mode.

For car washes with a conveyor system:

Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is deactivated.  
Activatting/deactivating automatic car wash mode  
Requirements:  
R
The vehicle is stationary.  
The automatic car wash mode is automatically  
deactivated as soon as a speed of 12 mph  
(20 km/h) is exceeded.  
R
Vehicless with surround view camera: The front  
image is activated aꢃer approx. eight seconds.  
If one of the settings cannot be selected, this is  
displayed by a % behind the respective set-  
ting.

The engine is running.

Quick Access  
Above a speed of 12 mph (20 km/h) car wash  
mode is automatically deactivated.  
Activating automatiic carr wwash mode

The water jet can cause externally invisible  
damage.  
The following settings are reset when car wash  
mode is deactivated:  
Select Automatic Car Wash Mode.  
Select Start.

Components damaged in this way may unex-  
pectedly fail.

The outside mirrors are folded out.  
If one of the settings cannot be selected, this is  
displayed by a % behind the respective set-  
ting.

The rain sensor is activated.

Do not use a power washer with round-  
spray nozzles.

replaced immediately.

To avoid damage to your vehicle, observe the fol-  
lowing when using a power washer:

The automatic car wash settings are reset.

Vehicles with decorative foil: Parts of your  
vehicle are covered with a decorative foil.  
Maintain a distance of at least 27.6 in (70 cm)  
between the foil-covered parts of the vehicle  
and the nozzle of the power washer. Move the  
power washer nozzle around whilst cleaning.  
The water temperature of the power washer  
must not exceed 140°F (60°C).

Bird droppings: soak with water and rinse oꢀ  
aꢃerwards.

Take care not to point the water jet  
directly towards the air inlet grille below  
the hood.  
Tree resin, oils, fuels and greases: remove by  
rubbing gently with a cloth soaked in petro-  
leum ether or lighter ꢄuid.  
Observe the legal requirements, e.g. in a number  
of countries, washing by hand is only permitted in  
specially designated wash bays.

Coolant and brake ꢄuid: remove with a damp  
cloth and clean water.  
R

Observe the information on the correct dis-  
tance in the equipment manufacturer's oper-  
ating instructions.

Use a mild cleaning agent, e.g. car shampoo.

R
Tar stains: use tar remover.  
Wax: use silicone remover.

Wash the vehicle with lukewarm water using a  
soꢃ car sponge. When doing so, do not  
expose the vehicle to direct sunlight.  
Do not attach stickers, ꢁlms or similar materi-  
als. Only have ꢁlm attached to the bumper at  
a qualiꢁed specialist workshop.  
Do not direct the nozzle of the power washer  
directly at sensitive parts, such as tires, gaps,  
electrical components, batteries, light sources  
and ventilation slits.

Carefully hose the vehicle oꢀ with water and  
dry using a chamois.

Remove dirt immediately, where possible.

Observe the notes on the care of vehicle  
parts (/ page 269).  
Matte ꢁnish

Only use care products approved for  
Mercedes-Benz.  
Notes on paintwork/matte ꢁnish paintwork care

Do not attach stickers, ꢁlms or similar materi-  
als. Only have ꢁlm attached to the bumper at  
a qualiꢁed specialist workshop.  
To avoid damaging the paintwork and interfering  
with the driving assistance systems, please  
observe the following notes:

Do not polish the vehicle and alloy wheels.  
Cleaning

For cleaning, use plenty of water and a mild

Only use car washes that correspond to the  
latest engineering standards.

substances, e.g. a car shampoo approved for  
Mercedes-Benz.

Do not use car wash program with a ꢁnal hot  
wax treatment.

Remove dirt immediately, where possible,  
whilst avoiding rubbing too hard. There is oth-  
erwise a risk of damaging the decorative foil  
irreparably.  
Do not use paint cleaners, buꢂng or polishing  
products, gloss preservers, e.g. wax.

Do not use polish on matte decorative foil.  
Polishing will have the eꢀect of shining the  
foil-wrapped surface.  
In the event of paintwork damage:  
If there is dirt on the ꢁnish or if the decorative  
foil is dull: Use the Paint Cleaner recommen-  
ded and approved for Mercedes-Benz.

Always have paintwork repairs carried out at a  
qualiꢁed specialist workshop.  
Do not treat matte or structured decorative  
foils with wax. Permanent stains may occur.  
R
Make sure the radar sensors function  
(/ page 155).  
Scratches, corrosive deposits, areas aꢀected by  
corrosion and damage caused by incorrect care  
cannot always be completely repaired. In such  
cases, visit a qualiꢁed specialist workshop.

Insect remains: Soak with insect remover and  
rinse oꢀ the treated areas aꢃerwards.  
Bird droppings: Soak with water and rinse oꢀ  
aꢃerwards.  
Notes on cleaning decorative foils  
You can obtain more information on care and  
cleaning products from the manufacturer.  
Observe the notes on matte ꢁnish care in the  
chapter "Notes on paintwork/matte ꢁnish paint-  
work care" (/ page 267). They also apply to  
matte decorative foils.  
To prevent water stains, dry a foil-wrapped  
vehicle with a soꢃ, absorbent cloth aꢃer every  
car wash.  
In the case of foil-wrapped surfaces, optical diꢀer-  
ences may occur between the surfaces that were  
not protected by a decorative foil aꢃer removing a  
decorative foil.  
Avoiding damage to the decorative foil

The service life and color of decorative foils  
Observe the notes on cleaning decorative foils to  
avoid vehicle damage.

ried out at a qualiꢁed specialist workshop,  
e.g. in an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.  
Do not use dry cloths or abrasive or solvent-  
based cleaning agents to clean the inside of  
windows.

Always be particularly careful around the  
tailpipe and the tailpipe trims and super-  
vise children especially closely in this  
area.

Aꢃer changing the wiper blades or treating  
the vehicle with wax, clean the windshield  
thoroughly with cleaning agents recommen-  
ded for Mercedes-Benz. Failure to observe the  
application instructions may result in damage,  
smear marks or blinding spots.  
Notes on care of vehicle parts  
Allow vehicle parts to cool down before  
touching them.

WARNING Risk of entrapment if the wind-  
shield wipers are switched on while the  
windshield is being cleaned  
To avoid damage to the vehicle, observe the notes  
on cleaning and care of the following vehicle  
parts:

Remove external fogging or dirt on the wind-  
shield in front of the multifunction camera.  
Otherwise, driving systems and driving safety  
systems may be impaired or not available  
(/ page 155).  
If the windshield wipers are set in motion  
while you are cleaning the windshield or wiper  
blades, you can be trapped by the wiper arm.  
Wheels and rims

Use water and acid-free alloy wheel cleaners.

Always switch oꢀ the windshield wipers  
and the vehicle before cleaning the wind-  
shield or wiper blades.  
R
Do not use acidic alloy wheel cleaners to  
remove brake dust. This could damage wheel  
bolts and brake components.  
Wiper blades  
R
Move the wiper arms into the replacement  
R
To avoid corrosion of the brake discs and  
position (/ page 119).

WARNING Risk of burns from the tailpipe  
and tailpipe trims  
brakepads, drive the vehicle for a few minutes  
aꢃer cleaning before parking it. The brake  
discs and brakepads warm up and dry out.  
R
With the wiper arms folded out, clean the  
wiper blades with a damp cloth.  
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can  
become very hot. If you come into contact  
with these parts of the vehicle, you could burn  
yourself.  
Windows  
R
Clean the windows inside and outside with a  
%
Make sure that the wiper blades are coated.  
The coating can leave residues on a cloth. Do  
not rub the wiper blades excessively or clean  
them too oꢃen.
