Overview of climate control systems

Notes on climate control

For the air-conditioning system, pollution level

monitoring and air ltration to function correctly,

an interior air lter must always be used. Make

sure that the lter is installed correctly. Use lters

recommended and approved by Mercedes-Benz.

Always have maintenance work carried out at a

qualied specialist workshop.

Overview of the air conditioning control panel

The indicator lamps on the buttons indicate that

the corresponding functions are activated.

Residual heat can be used only for vehicles

with a diesel engine or with a stationary

heater in conjunction with the

THERMOTRONIC air conditioning control

panel.

Switching climate control on/o

To switch on: set the airow to level 1 or

higher using the H button.

To switch o: set the airow to level 0 using

the H button.

If climate control is switched o, the windows

may fog up more quickly. Switch climate control

o only briey.

Switching the A/C function on/o using the air

conditioning control panel

The A/C function heats, cools and dehumidies

the vehicle's interior air.

Press the ¿/Á button.

Switch o the A/C function only briey; other-

wise, the windows may fog up more quickly.

Condensation may drip from the underside of the

vehicle when cooling mode is active. This is not

indicative of a malfunction.

Activating/deactivating the A/C function via the

air conditioning menu

Depending on the external conditions, support for

improved cooling and dehumidication of the inte-

rior air will be provided when the A/C function is

activated. If it is not possible to operate the A/C

function on the climate bar on the central display,

switch the function on or o in the climate menu

of the central display.

Select A/C (A/C).

Setting climate control to automatic

In automatic mode, the set temperature is con-

trolled and maintained at a constant level by the

air supply.

Press button Ã.

To switch to manual mode: press the _ or

Ã button.

In automatic mode, you can choose between ve

dierent air quantities using the H button.

Automatic mode is retained.

Setting air distribution via the air conditioning

Multimedia system:

Select First Row of Seats or Second Row of

Seats

To set air distribution: select ¯, P or

Set the airow.

When the air conditioning system is switched

on, at least one zone is always active. How-

ever, several air distribution options can be

selected at the same time, for example to set

the climate control for the vehicle interior and

the footwells simultaneously. The ¯ cli-

mate control for the windshield can only be

selected for the rst seat row. When auto-

matic mode is active, the buttons for setting

the air distribution are deactivated automati-

cally. If the air conditioning system is deacti-

vated, the buttons remain operable and the

last setting is saved.

Switching the synchronization function on/o via

the air conditioning control panel

Requirements

The vehicle is not tted with a stationary

heater.

Climate control can be set centrally using the syn-

chronization function. The temperature and air

distribution settings for the driver's side will be

adopted automatically for the front passenger

side.

Press the 0 button.

The synchronization function will be deactivated if

the settings for one of the other climate zones are

changed.

The synchronization function controls the climate

control centrally. The driver's settings for temper-

ature, airow and air distribution are automatically

adopted for each climate zone.

Select SYNC (SYNC).

Defrosting the windows

Windows fogged up on the inside

Press the Ã button.

If the windows remain fogged up: press

the ¬ button.

Windows fogged up on the outside

Switch on the windshield wipers.

Press the Ã button.

Switching air-recirculation mode on/o

Press the g button.

The interior air will be recirculated.

Air-recirculation mode automatically switches to

fresh air mode aer a while.

If air-recirculation mode is switched on, the

windows may fog up more quickly. Switch on

air-recirculation mode only briey.

Switching the residual heat on/o (Canada)

Requirements

The vehicle is parked.

Only vehicles with a diesel engine can use

residual heat.

It is possible to make use of the residual heat

from the engine to continue heating or ventilating

the front compartment of the vehicle for approx-

imately 30 minutes, depending on the tempera-

ture set.

To activate: press the Á button.

Residual heat will be switched o automatically.

Air vents

▌Adjusting the front air vents

WARNING Risk of burns or frostbite due to

being too close to the air vents

Very hot or very cold air can ow from the air

vents.

Make sure that all vehicle occupants

always maintain a sucient distance

from the air vents.

If necessary, direct the airow to another

area of the vehicle interior.

To guarantee the ow of fresh air through the air

vents into the vehicle interior, note the following:

Always keep the vents and ventilation grilles in

the vehicle interior clear.

Keep the air inlet free of residue build-up

(/ page 281).

To open or close: hold the center of air

vent 1 and turn it to the le (open) or right

(closed) as far as it will go.

To set the airow direction: hold the center of

air vent 1 and move it up or down or to the

le or right.

▌Adjusting the rear air vents

To open or close: hold the center of air

vent 1 and turn it to the le or right as far as

it will go.

To set the airow direction: hold the center of

air vent 1 and move it up or down or to the

le or right.
