The eﬀective range of the key signal is approxi-

mately 30 m. The eﬀective area can be reduced, e.g.

due to signal interference from other transmitters.

The system unlocks and locks all doors, the fuel ﬁller

SAFE-Function

Depending on the equipment, the SAFEFunction can

be incorporated into the central locking system.

Synchronize the key as follows.

The SAFEFunction prevents the doors from opening

from the inside after locking the vehicle.

Press one of the buttons on the key.

Unlock the door within 1 minute with the key via

the locking cylinder » page 23.

The SAFEFunction turns on when the vehicle is

locked from the outside.

If necessary, the key must be synchronized if one

of the buttons on the key has been repeatedly press-

ed outside of the eﬀective range of the remote con-

trol.

After the ignition is switched oﬀ, a message regard-

ing the SAFEFunction is displayed on the instrument

cluster display.

Changing the key battery

When the vehicle is locked and SAFEFunction is

switched on, no people may remain in the vehicle.

Doors on one side of the vehicle

The doors on the driver’s side and the fuel ﬁller ﬂap

are unlocked with the button on the key.

The warning light in the driver's door will ﬂash for

about 2 seconds in quick succession after the vehicle

is locked, then goes out and starts ﬂashing regularly

at longer intervals after about 30 secs.

In vehicles equipped with a keyless locking system,

the doors on the passenger’s side near to which the

key is located and the fuel ﬁller ﬂap are unlocked by

touching the door handle.

If the SAFEFunction is switched oﬀ, the door can be

opened from the inside by pulling the opening lever

once.

When unlocked again, the other doors and the boot

lid are also unlocked.

The SAFEFunction is switched on again after unlock-

ing and locking the vehicle.

Automatic locking after starting

After starting, all doors and the boot lid are locked

when a speed of 15 km/h is reached.

Operation

Unlocking of the vehicle takes place when opening a

door from the inside or when removing the key from

the ignition.

slot.

Turn the key or ﬂat-head screwdriver towards the

outside of the vehicle (spring-loaded position).

Protection against inadvertently locking the key in

the vehicle

When the key is locked in the vehicle, the vehicle is

automatically unlocked. If no door is opened within

45 seconds, the vehicle automatically locks again.

When the key is locked in the luggage compartment,

the luggage compartment lid is automatically un-

locked.

After closing, the door is locked.

Deactivate keyless locking

The keyless locking system, KESSY, enables unlock-

ing and locking of the vehicle without actively using

the remote control key.

Lock the vehicle with the button on the key.

Within 5 s, touch the sensor on the door handle

with your ﬁnger.

Deactivation is conﬁrmed by a single ﬂash of the

direction indicators.

Operation

To check the deactivation, wait at least 10 seconds

and then pull the door handle.

Keep the key with you when unlocking and locking.

The sensors on the handle are intended to be operat-

ed with bare hands, e.g. wearing gloves may aﬀect

the function of the sensors.

The door must remain locked.

Keyless locking is automatically activated once again

after the vehicle is unlocked.

Troubleshooting

The vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked using

the sensors on the handle

Lock or unlock the vehicle with the button on the

key.

✓ The trailer is not equipped with LED tail lights.

Then try to unlock or lock the vehicle using the

sensors on the handle.

If keyless locking does not work, get the help of a

specialist garage.

If the electrical connection to the trailer is interrup-

ted in a vehicle with an activated alarm system,

warning signals are triggered.

If the vehicle is not unlocked for a longer period

of time, the function can be deactivated automati-

cally.

Disable the alarm before connecting or discon-

necting a trailer.

No key was found when the ignition was switched

The activated alarm system triggers an alarm when

one of the following events occurs.

The deactivated functions are reactivated after un-

locking and locking the vehicle.

Deactivation is to be carried out if the vehicle is,

for example, towed or transported.

Open the engine compartment lid.

Open the boot lid.

Opening the door.

Manipulation of the ignition lock.

Towing the vehicle.

Movement in the vehicle.

Sudden and signiﬁcant voltage drop in the electri-

cal system.

Unhitch the trailer.

Opening the door unlocked via the lock cylinder.

Functional conditions

All windows must be closed for the alarm system to

function correctly.

A trailer is integrated into the alarm system under

the following conditions.

✓ The vehicle is factory-ﬁtted with a towing device.

✓ The trailer is electrically connected to the vehicle

via the trailer socket.
