2. Hold the vehicle key to the right of the steering column trim directly after pressing the starter button → Fig. 1 (arrow).
The ignition is switched on automatically, and in some cases the engine is started.
Engine cannot be started
A display will be shown in the instrument cluster display if an unauthorised vehicle key is used or there is a system fault.
1. Use an authorised vehicle key.
if the fault persists, there is a fault in the starting system:
1. Press the starter button until the engine starts.
keep the vehicle key turned until the engine has started.
2. If the fault persists, seek expert assistance.

3. Vehicles with ignition lock: Switch off the ignition.
4. Vehicles with starter button: briefly press the starter button. If the engine cannot be switched off, carry out the emergency
switch-off procedure.
5. Follow the instructions in the instrument cluster.
Warning before leaving the vehicle
Vehicles with an automatic gearbox: If the selector lever is not in position when the driver door is opened, an acoustic warning signal
sounds and a warning message appears on the instrument cluster display. This warns you that the vehicle could potentially roll away.
Water vapour in cold and rainy conditions
If the vehicle is parked after driving in cold and rainy conditions, water vapour may emerge from the radiator grille for a short time. The
formation of water vapour on hot engine components is normal and does not constitute a technical defect.
WARNING
When the engine is switched off, certain vehicle systems do not function or function only to a restricted extent, e.g. brake servo or
power steering. As a result, more force has to be used for steering and more pressure has to be applied to the brake pedal to stop the
vehicle. If the vehicle is in motion, this can cause loss of control over the vehicle, accidents and serious or fatal injuries.
