If insufficient antifreeze is added to the

washer fluid, it may freeze on the glass and

impair visibility.

● In winter temperatures, do not use the

windscreen washer without adding

sufficient antifreeze to the washer fluid

beforehand.

● In winter temperatures, never use the

windscreen washer without first heating the

windscreen with the windscreen heater or

ventilation system. Otherwise, the mixture

of washer fluid and antifreeze could congeal

on the windscreen and impair visibility.

The windscreen wiper only works when the

ignition is switched on and the engine bonnet or

tailgate is closed.

WARNING

When worn or dirty wiper blades are used,

visibility is reduced and the risk of accidents

and serious injury is increased.

sensor

The sensitivity of the rain and light sensor can be

adjusted manually with the remote control.

The presence of a film or streaks of water

prolonged wiper operation, significantly

shortened wiping intervals or rapid and

continuous wiping.

WARNING

– Dirt: Dried dust, wax, protective films (lotus

effect), detergent residues (from the car

wash), etc. on the windscreen can cause the

rain and light sensor to react less sensitively,

later, more slowly or not at all. Regularly

clean the reference surface of the rain and

light sensor → p. 372 and check the wiper

blades for damage.

The rain and light sensor cannot always

detect precipitation accurately enough and

switch the wiper on properly.

● If necessary, switch on the windscreen

wiper manually in good time if water on

the windscreen makes it difficult to see.

Crack in windscreen: The impact of a foot- dra

causes the windscreen wiper to perform a

wiping cycle if the rain and light sensor is

activated. The sensor then detects that the

reference surfaces have been reduced and

adapts. Depending on the size of the impact,

the activation behaviour of the sensor may

change.

Problems and solutions

The washer fluid level is too low. Fill the

washer fluid reservoir at the next

opportunity → page 319.

There is a fault in the rain and light

sensor. Switch the ignition off and on

again. If, after switching on the ignition,

the indicator light comes on

permanently, call in a qualified

technician.

There is a fault in the windscreen wiper.

Switch off and switch the ignition back

on. If, after switching on the ignition, the

indicator light comes on continuously

again, seek the assistance of qualified

personnel.

To remove wax or polish residues, it is

recommended to use a glass cleaner containing

alcohol.

If the wiper encounters an obstacle on the

glass, it will try to sweep it away. If the

● Whenever possible, use the interior rear-

view mirror to accurately judge the

distance to vehicles behind or other

objects.

Through the exterior mirrors and the interior rear

view mirror, the driver can observe vehicles

behind him and adapt his driving behaviour to

them.

● Always ensure that you have sufficient

visibility to the rear.

It is important for driving safety that the driver

adjusts the exterior mirrors and interior mirrors

WARNING

When looking through the exterior mirrors and

the interior rear-view mirror, it is not possible to

see the entire rear and rear area of the vehicle.

These areas outside the field of vision are called

the blind spot. Other road users and objects

may be in the blind spot.

The automatic anti-dazzle rear-view mirrors

contain an electrolyte fluid which could leak

out if the mirror breaks.

● If it escapes, the electrolyte fluid can

irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory

organs, especially for people with asthma or

similar diseases. Inhale sufficient fresh air

immediately and get out of the vehicle or, if

this is not possible, open all windows and

doors.

WARNING

Adjusting the exterior mirrors and interior

mirrors while driving can distract the driver.

This can lead to accidents and serious injury.

● If electrolyte liquid comes into contact

with eyes or skin, immediately flush the

affected area with plenty of water for at

least 15 minutes and seek medical advice.

● Adjust the exterior mirrors and interior rear-

view mirrors only when the vehicle is

stationary.

● When parking, changing lanes, overtaking

or cornering, always keep a close eye on

your surroundings, as other road users or

objects may also be in the blind spot.

● If the liquid comes into contact with

footwear or clothing, rinse immediately with

plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.

Before reusing the footwear or garment in

question, thoroughly rinse it off.

● Always ensure that the mirrors are

correctly adjusted and that visibility to the

rear is not reduced by ice, snow, fogging or

other objects.

● If electrolyte liquid is swallowed, rinse mouth

immediately with plenty of water for at least

15 minutes. Do not induce vomiting unless

advised by a physician. Seek medical

attention immediately.

WARNING

NOTICE

Failure to accurately estimate the distance

to vehicles behind can lead to an accident

and serious injury.

If an automatic anti-dazzle rear-view mirror

breaks, an electrolyte fluid may be ejected.

This fluid attacks the plastic surfaces.

WARNING

The light from the display of portable

navigation devices can cause malfunctions in

the automatic interior anti-dazzle rear-view

mirror, resulting in an accident and serious

dazzle function may result in the rear-view

mirror not being able to be used to

accurately judge the distance to vehicles

behind or to other objects.
