Data protection for Your Audi Rs Q8 SUV First Generation (2020-2026)

Data protection
diagnosis and repairs. This involves only certain
data which are collected or stored for a very limi-
ted time when a control unit registers a system
event. No sounds, conversations or images from
the vehicle are stored.
Data protection
Information on data
protection
Further information can be found online on your
regional Audi site or the MMI in your vehicle.
The data may be related e.g. to the vehicle’s
speed, direction of travel and brake system, or to
the behaviour of the restraint systems in the
event of an accident. Reading out and download-
ing the stored data requires special devices that
must be connected directly to the vehicle.
Applies to MMI: On the home screen, select: SET-
TINGS > General > Legal information > About
Audi connect.
Image recording
Onboard diagnostic system (OBD)
Monitoring of surroundings
Applies to: vehicles with monitoring of surroundings
There is a diagnostic connection for reading out
various control units and the event memory loca-
ted in the driver’s footwell. Information regard-
ing the operation and status of the vehicle's elec-
tronic control units is stored in the event memo-
ry. The event memory should only be read out
and erased by a qualified workshop.
The functions of the park assist require the de-
tection and evaluation of the path travelled by
the vehicle. For this purpose, permanently instal-
led cameras detect objects in the area in which
the vehicle is moving (e.g. obstacles, barriers).
The live images from the cameras are transmit-
ted to the relevant control unit to do this.
WARNING
Improper use of the connection socket for
the onboard diagnostic system can lead to
malfunctions which could result in accidents
and serious injuries.
The images from the camera are not recorded or
stored. They are immediately transmitted to the
relevant control unit in the vehicle for process-
ing. The control unit analyses the current image
from the camera using image evaluation soft-
ware. This image evaluation software determines
anonymous technical dimensions, such as the
distance to objects. This control unit evaluates
these technical dimensions and may allow the
supporting systems to control the vehicle.
Only have the data read out by a qualified
workshop.
Event data recorder
Event data recorder
Your vehicle is equipped with an event data re-
corder (EDR). The main purpose of the EDR is to
make it possible to reconstruct how the systems
in the vehicle behave in accident situations. To
this end, the EDR stores relevant data (e.g. seat
belt status, speed, airbag parameters, time of ac-
cident etc.) pertaining to a period of a few sec-
onds before an accident. This only occurs in acci-
dent or near-accident situations.
Note
The live images from the cameras and the
anonymous technical dimensions are stored
for a few seconds in the short-term memory.
They do not allow any conclusions to be
drawn on the identity of persons or vehicles.
Memory
These data can help to better understand the cir-
cumstances in which accidents and injury occur.
Please note that data from your vehicle will only
be stored in the event of an accident or a near-ac-
cident situation. No data will be stored in normal
driving conditions. Furthermore, no personal
Vehicle control units
Your vehicle is equipped with electronic control
units for various vehicle systems such as the air-
bags. During normal driving, these vehicle con-
trol units store data which workshops require for

Data protection
data on the occupants or the accident location
will be stored. It is possible, however, that third
parties, e.g. law enforcement agencies, may cor-
relate the stored data with personal data as part
of an accident investigation.
If the vehicle keeper or lessee gives their per-
mission; or
If the police have made an official request; or
If ordered to do so by a court of law or govern-
ment agency.
Reading out data from the EDR memory requires
special devices and access to the vehicle or the
EDR. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer,
third parties such as law enforcement agencies
can also read out and analyse the stored data,
provided that they have access to the vehicle or
the EDR. Audi will not access the recorder re-
motely.
Audi may, insofar as this is legally permitted, al-
so use the data for analysis with respect to vehi-
cle operation and safety performance, or may
provide the data to third parties for research pur-
poses.
1)
Memory for automated driving
Applies to: vehicles with memory for automated driving
Assist system monitor
Data are stored in a memory in the vehicle while
the park assist plus ðpage 233 is active. The da-
ta are encrypted and are continuously overwrit-
ten by more recent data every few seconds. The
data are deleted when the ignition is switched
off.
This vehicle is equipped with an assist system
monitor (ASM) which collects data not stored by
the EDR in the event of an accident. The main
purpose of the ASM is to make it possible to re-
construct the role and behaviour of driver assist
systems in accident situations. In addition to the
data stored by the EDR, the ASM stores data rela-
ted to the driver assist systems from a period of a
few seconds before an accident or near-accident
situation. The data recorded by the ASM will de-
pend on the vehicle’s equipment and may com-
prise information such as: status information
from the driver assist systems (e.g. switched on/
off, system events etc.), regulating input (e.g.
from ESC, ABS, Audi pre sense etc.) and driver as-
sist system settings (e.g. speed settings).
In certain situations, for instance if an airbag has
been deployed or a parking manoeuvre has been
completed, the corresponding technical data are
stored in the memory for automated driving. The
data storage system for automated driving is a
non-volatile storage medium with limited stor-
age capacity. When the memory is full, the oldest
data are overwritten by the most recent data.
Exporting data
You can retrieve the data from the memory for
automated driving and export the data to a USB
stick. The settings depend on the equipment fit-
ted in your vehicle.
Reading out data from the ASM memory requires
special devices and access to the vehicle or the
ASM. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer,
third parties such as law enforcement agencies
can also read out and analyse the stored data,
provided that they have access to the vehicle or
the ASM.
Important: The vehicle must be stationary, the
automated systems must not be active and the
ignition must be switched on. A USB stick must
be connected to the USB input.
