diagnosis and repairs. This involves only certain
data which are collected or stored for a very limi-
ted time when a control unit registers a system
event. No sounds, conversations or images from
the vehicle are stored.

Information on data
protection
Further information can be found online on your
regional Audi site or the MMI in your vehicle.
The data may be related e.g. to the vehicle’s
speed, direction of travel and brake system, or to
the behaviour of the restraint systems in the
event of an accident. Reading out and download-
ing the stored data requires special devices that
must be connected directly to the vehicle.

Monitoring of surroundings
Applies to: vehicles with monitoring of surroundings
There is a diagnostic connection for reading out
various control units and the event memory loca-
ted in the driver’s footwell. Information regard-
ing the operation and status of the vehicle's elec-
tronic control units is stored in the event memo-
ry. The event memory should only be read out
and erased by a qualified workshop.
The functions of the park assist require the de-
tection and evaluation of the path travelled by
the vehicle. For this purpose, permanently instal-
led cameras detect objects in the area in which
the vehicle is moving (e.g. obstacles, barriers).
The live images from the cameras are transmit-
ted to the relevant control unit to do this.
WARNING
– Improper use of the connection socket for
the onboard diagnostic system can lead to
malfunctions which could result in accidents
and serious injuries.
The images from the camera are not recorded or
stored. They are immediately transmitted to the
relevant control unit in the vehicle for process-
ing. The control unit analyses the current image
from the camera using image evaluation soft-
ware. This image evaluation software determines
anonymous technical dimensions, such as the
distance to objects. This control unit evaluates
these technical dimensions and may allow the
supporting systems to control the vehicle.
– Only have the data read out by a qualified
workshop.
Event data recorder
Event data recorder
Your vehicle is equipped with an event data re-
corder (EDR). The main purpose of the EDR is to
make it possible to reconstruct how the systems
in the vehicle behave in accident situations. To
this end, the EDR stores relevant data (e.g. seat
belt status, speed, airbag parameters, time of ac-
cident etc.) pertaining to a period of a few sec-
onds before an accident. This only occurs in acci-
dent or near-accident situations.
Note
The live images from the cameras and the
anonymous technical dimensions are stored
for a few seconds in the short-term memory.
They do not allow any conclusions to be
drawn on the identity of persons or vehicles.
Memory
These data can help to better understand the cir-
cumstances in which accidents and injury occur.
Please note that data from your vehicle will only
be stored in the event of an accident or a near-ac-
cident situation. No data will be stored in normal
driving conditions. Furthermore, no personal
