Driver messages
A malfunction has occurred. Drive to a qualified
workshop soon.
The following driver messages may appear, de-
pending on the equipment installed in your vehi-
cle:
Air suspension: vehicle too low. Ground
clearance limited
Steering: fault. Please stop vehicle
The vehicle’s ground clearance is very low. Wait
until the air suspension has restored the ground
clearance to a normal level. If the indicator lamp
does not disappear, even after a long waiting pe-
riod, drive to a qualified workshop soon and have
the fault rectified.
The power assistance may have failed. Adapt your
driving style immediately to allow for the possi-
bility of heavy steering and stop the vehicle in a
safe place as soon as possible. Do not drive on.
Seek professional assistance.
Steering: fault. Please stop vehicle. Note
distance to side
Air suspension: fault. Please contact work-
shop
The rear wheel steering may have failed. The ve-
hicle may require more road clearance at the side
and the turning circle may be much larger. Re-
duce your speed without delay and stop the vehi-
cle in a safe place as soon as possible with ade-
quate side clearance. Do not drive on. Seek pro-
fessional assistance.
A malfunction has occurred. The vehicle’s stabili-
ty may be restricted and the ground clearance
may be low. Drive to a qualified workshop soon.
Steering
Description
Steering: fault. Please stop vehicle
The electromechanical steering assists you when
steering the vehicle by adapting the degree of
power assistance electronically, depending on
the speed. The settings depend on the Audi drive
select* mode selected.
There is a malfunction in the electronic steering
lock. The ignition can no longer be switched on.
Before leaving the vehicle, secure it to prevent it
from rolling away ðpage 112. Do not have the
vehicle towed away, because you won't be able to
steer it. Seek professional assistance.
Progressive steering
Applies to: vehicles with progressive steering
Steering: fault. You can continue driving
For increased dynamic performance and vehicle
handling, the steering ratio is varied depending
on the steering input. The more the steering
wheel is turned, the more direct the steering re-
sponse. This facilitates manoeuvring and pro-
vides precise steering feedback at high speeds.
There is a fault in the steering system. The steer-
ing may be heavier or its response may be more
sensitive than usual. Adjust your driving style ac-
cordingly. Have the steering checked by a quali-
fied workshop without delay. Please note that
the red warning lamp may appear if you restart
the engine, and in this case you must not contin-
ue driving.
All-wheel steering
Applies to: vehicles with all-wheel steering
The ability to steer the rear wheels in addition to
the front wheels enhances the dynamic perform-
ance and vehicle handling. At low speeds, the
turning circle is made smaller by steering the
rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front
wheels. At high speeds, the vehicle handling and
stability are improved by steering the rear wheels
in the same direction as the front wheels.
Steering: fault. Adapt driving style. Turning
circle larger
The rear wheel steering may have failed. The ve-
hicle will have a larger turning circle and the han-
dling in corners will be the same as on vehicles
without rear wheel steering. Drive carefully to a
qualified workshop and have the fault rectified.
