Air conditioner
Description
If you notice, for instance, that the seat or
rear window heating (if fitted) is not work-
ing, it may have been temporarily switched
off by the energy management system.
These systems will be available again as
soon as sufficient electrical power is availa-
ble.
Depending on your vehicle’s equipment, one of
the following options is available:
A 2-zone deluxe automatic air conditioner
which can be used to adjust the temperature
and air distribution at the front left and right
individually
Information on the air conditioner for the
European Union
A 3-zone deluxe automatic air conditioner
which can be used to adjust the temperature,
air distribution and blower speed at the front
left and right and the temperature at the rear
individually.
The air conditioner contains the fluorinated
greenhouse gas known as R-1234yf.

greenhouse gas, the CO equivalent and the

A 4-zone deluxe automatic air conditioner
which can be used to adjust the temperature,
air distribution and blower speed settings for
all the seats individually
global warming potential (GWP) is provided on a
sticker in the engine compartment.
Controls
The air conditioner heats, cools, dehumidifies
and filters the air inside the vehicle. It operates
most effectively with the windows and the sun-
roof (if fitted) closed. If the vehicle has been
standing in the sun, it may cool down faster if
you open the windows briefly to let the hot air es-
cape.
The deluxe automatic air conditioner will main-
tain the desired temperature at a constant level.
When the heater is on, the blower normally only
switches to a higher speed once the coolant has
warmed up sufficiently (this does not apply to
the defrost setting).
Fig. 87 Centre console: Lower display and row of buttons
Adjustments can be made using the two displays,
the row of buttons in the centre console and the
control console in the rear cabin (depending on
the equipment in your vehicle). For information
on how to use the touch displays, refer to
ðpage 24, Touch displays.
Enhanced air filter with activated carbon
When the blower is switched on, the filter re-
duces the concentration of fine particulate mat-
ter and pollen and neutralises odours in the vehi-
cle interior.
All of the air conditioner settings are available
from the front seats; from the rear seats, only
certain functions are available.
Note
Lower display
Keep the air intake slots in front of the
windscreen clear of snow, ice and leaves to
ensure unimpaired heating/cooling, and to
prevent the windows misting over.
The controls on the lower display are divided into
two areas:

A/C / / Cooling mode
The air cooling system only works when the blow-
er is switched on. When the air cooling is switch-
ed off, the air is neither cooled nor dehumidified.
The windows may mist up as a result. The air
cooling is switched off automatically at low out-
side temperatures.
Settings
The functions can be switched on/off by pressing
the buttons or switches. When the function is
switched on, a coloured bar in the button or the
LED in the switch will light up. Some buttons
have more than one function; the different func-

is deactivated. A/C cooling mode is automatically
switched on depending on the ambient tempera-
ture.
If you activate , the air conditioner will operate
in efficiency mode.
/ Temperature
Rear window heating
The temperature can be adjusted between 16 °C
(+60 °F) and 28 °C (+84 °F). Outside this range,
LOW/LO or HIGH/HI will appear on the display. In
the two extreme settings the air conditioner op-
erates continuously with maximum cooling or
heating output.
The rear window heating operates only when the
engine is running, and switches off automatically
after about 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the
outside temperature.
To switch on the rear window heating permanent-
ly, press and hold the button for at least three
seconds. It will then remain on until the ignition
is switched off.

Applies to vehicles with seat heating: An al-
ternating magnetic field is generated when
the seat heating is switched on. Side effects
such as irritation to sensory organs or func-
tional issues with active implants (e.g. pace-
makers, infusion pumps, neurostimulators)
are very unlikely. If you have implants,
please consult a doctor if you have any ques-
tions.
When is lit on the rear control console, the

feel fresher. Both side vents must be open.
Applies to vehicles with seat heating: Ex-
plain to your passengers how to use the seat
heating safely.
Perfume
Applies to: vehicles with perfume function
The perfume function creates a pleasant aroma
inside the vehicle by diffusing a fragrance via the
vents on either side of the dashboard. The fra-
grance may not be diffused right away, particu-
larly at very low or very high temperatures. The
settings for the perfume feature can be adjusted
ðpage 104.
CAUTION
Applies to: vehicles with seat heating
To avoid damaging the heating elements of
the seat heating, please do not kneel on the
seat or apply sharp pressure at a single
point.
Only use the seat heating when the seat is
dry.
Residual heat
Only place dry objects on the seats.
Do not spill any liquid on the seats.
Covering the seats can impair the seat heat-
ing function. Do not use seat covers and do
not place any objects (e.g. jackets, blankets
or bags) on the seats when the seat heating
is switched on.
The residual heat in the engine coolant is used to
heat the interior. To use this function, press the
button for longer than two seconds with the
ignition switched off. The function will be switch-
ed off after about 15 minutes.
WARNING

switched on for too long. The windows can
mist over as a result – risk of accident!
For the sake of the environment
If the air recirculation or automatic air recir-
culation function is used for a long period,
Switching off A/C cooling mode saves energy.
the concentration of CO can build up inside
the vehicle. This can cause personal discom-
fort and may even lead to an accident!

Note
Applies to: vehicles with perfume function:
Use the perfume function in moderation; be
considerate of the well-being of passengers
and pets travelling with you. The combination
with other fragrances or smells can cause pas-
sengers to feel unwell. Reduce the intensity
of the perfume or switch the function off if
anyone in the vehicle feels unwell. Use only
fragrances approved for use by Audi.
Switch off the air recirculation / automatic
air recirculation immediately and ventilate
the vehicle if you experience any discomfort.
Applies to vehicles with seat heating: The
vehicle has functions which activate the seat
heating automatically. People with limited
capacity to feel pain or sense temperature
must make sure that the seat heating is
switched off at the start of the journey to
ensure that they do not burn themselves.

Particulate display
Applies to: vehicles with particulate sensor
The vehicle interior warms up more quickly with
the supplementary heater. The supplementary
heater is regulated automatically when this func-
tion is switched on.
A sensor determines the particulate level
(PM2.5) outside and inside the vehicle. The val-
ues measured are displayed as an air quality in-
dex (AQI) on a colour scale 1 . A value in the
green area indicates very high air quality.
WARNING
Applies to: vehicles with supplementary heater
The values shown by the system are approxima-
tions which may deviate from the real conditions.
Under certain circumstances, the system may not
be fully available or may not display any values
for a limited period, or the measurements may
be implausible.
When the fossil fuel powered supplementary
heater is in operation, hot exhaust gases are
emitted from the exhaust outlet under the
car.
