Surround View comprises various camera as‐  
sistance systems that help the driver when  
parking, maneuvering, and at complex exits  
and intersections.

Rearview camera  
The camera lens is located in the handle of the  
tailgate. The image quality may be impaired by  
dirt.  
Concept  
The rearview camera provides assistance in  
parking and maneuvering backwards. The area  
behind the vehicle is shown on the Control  
Display.  
Clean the camera lens if necessary.

Switching on automatically  
Safety information  
The system is switched on automatically if se‐  
lector lever position R is engaged when the en‐  
gine is running.  
WARNING  
The system does not relieve from per‐  
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situa‐  
tion. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust driv‐  
ing style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic and  
vehicle surroundings closely and actively inter‐  
vene where appropriate.◀  
Automatic deactivation during forward  
travel  
The system switches off when a certain driving  
distance or speed is exceeded.  
Switch the system back on, if needed.  
Overview  
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly:

On: the LED lights up.  
Off: the LED goes out.  
PDC Park Distance Control is shown on the

The rearview camera image is displayed if the  
reverse gear is engaged when pressing the

Pathway lines help you to estimate the space  
required when parking and maneuvering on  
level roads.  
Switching the view via iDrive  
With PDC Park Distance Control activated or  
Top View switched on:  
Pathway lines depend on the current steering  
angle and are continuously adjusted to the  
steering wheel movements.  
"Rear view camera"  
The rearview camera image is displayed.

Functional requirement  
Turning radius lines  
The rearview camera is switched on.  
The tailgate is fully closed.  
Keep the recording range of the camera  
clear. Protruding cargo or carrier systems  
and trailers that are not connected to a  
trailer power socket can lead to malfunc‐  
tions.  
Turning radius lines can only be superimposed  
on the rearview camera image together with  
pathway lines.  
Activating assistance functions  
More than one assistance function can be ac‐  
tive at the same time.  
Turning radius lines show the course of the  
smallest possible turning radius on a level  
road.  
Parking aid lines  
"Parking aid lines"  
Lanes and turning radius are indicated.  
Obstacle marking  
Only one turning radius line is displayed after  
the steering wheel is turned past a certain an‐  
gle.  
"Obstacle marking"  
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, spa‐  
tially shaped markings are displayed.

Pathway lines  
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, obsta‐  
cles behind the vehicle are detected by the  
PDC Park Distance Control sensors and the  
rearview camera.  
Pathway lines can be superimposed on the im‐  
age of the rearview camera.

If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, obstacle  
markings can be faded into the image of the  
rearview camera.  
Contrast  
With the rearview camera switched on:  
1.  
Select the symbol.  
The colored thresholds of the obstacle mark‐  
ings match the markings of the PDC Park Dis‐  
tance Control.  
2. Turn the controller until the desired setting  
is reached, and press the controller.  
System limits  
Parking using pathway and turning  
radius lines  
1. Position the vehicle so that the turning ra‐  
dius lines lead to within the limits of the  
parking space.  
Detection of objects  
Very low obstacles as well as high, protruding  
objects such as ledges may not be detected by  
the system.  
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, some  
assistance functions also consider data from  
PDC Park Distance Control.  
Follow the notes in the PDC Park Distance  
Control chapter.  
The objects displayed on the Control Display  
may be closer than they appear. Do not esti‐  
mate the distance from the objects on the dis‐  
play.  
2. Turn the steering wheel to the point where  
the pathway line covers the corresponding  
turning radius line.  
Top View  
Concept  
Top View provides assistance in parking and  
maneuvering. The area around the vehicle is  
shown on the Control Display.  
General information  
The image is captured by two cameras  
integrated in the exterior mirrors, by the rear‐  
view camera and a camera on the front of the  
vehicle.  
Display settings  
The range is no more than approx. 6.5 ft/2 m to  
the side, front and rear.  
Brightness  
With the rearview camera switched on:  
Obstacles within this range are thus displayed  
early on the Control Display.
