General -> Engine Oil Consumption for Your Citroen Xsara SUV Second Generation (1997-2006)

ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION
ALL TYPES
I - Oil consumption depends on :
- the engine type.
- how run-in or worn it is.
- the type of oil used.
- the driving conditions.
II - An engine can be considered RUN-IN after:
- 3.000 miles (5.000 km) for a PETROL engine.
- 6.000 miles (10.000 km) for a DIESEL engine.
III - MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE oil consumption for a RUN-IN engine.
- 0.5 litres per 600 miles (1.000 km) for a PETROL engine
- 1 litre per 600 miles (1.000 km) for a DIESEL engine.
DO NOT WORK BELOW THESE VALUES.
IV - OIL LEVEL : The level should NEVER be above the MAX. mark on the dipstick after changing or topping up the oil.
- This excess oil will be used up rapidly.
- It will reduce the engine output and adversely affect the operation of the air circuits and gas recycling.
