In Case Of Emergency -> Towing A Disabled Vehicle for Your Fiat 500 E 4 Door Second Generation (2020-2024)

176 IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
WARNING!
CAUTION!
WARNING!
Fast spinning tires can be dangerous. Forces
You or others can be badly burned by hot engine
coolant (antifreeze) or steam from your radiator. If
you see or hear steam coming from under the hood,
do not open the hood until the radiator has had time
to cool. Never try to open a cooling system pressure
cap when the radiator or coolant bottle is hot.
Racing the engine or spinning the wheels may
lead to transmission overheating and failure.
Allow the engine to idle with the transmission
in NEUTRAL for at least one minute after every
five rocking-motion cycles. This will minimize
overheating and reduce the risk of transmission
failure during prolonged efforts to free a stuck
vehicle.
generated by excessive wheel speeds may cause
damage, or even failure, of the axle and tires. A
tire could explode and injure someone. Do not spin
your vehicle's wheels faster than 30 mph (48 km/h)
or for longer than 30 seconds continuously without
stopping when you are stuck and do not let anyone
near a spinning wheel, no matter what the speed.
CAUTION!
When “rocking” a stuck vehicle by shifting
between DRIVE and REVERSE, do not spin the
wheels faster than 15 mph (24 km/h), or
drivetrain damage may result.
Driving with a hot cooling system could damage your
vehicle. If the temperature gauge reads HOT (H), pull
over and stop the vehicle. Idle the vehicle with the
air conditioner turned off until the pointer drops back
into the normal range. If the pointer remains on HOT
(H), and you hear continuous chimes, turn the engine
off immediately and call for service.
TOWING A DISABLED VEHICLE
This section describes procedures for towing a disabled
vehicle using a commercial towing service.
Revving the engine or spinning the wheels too fast
may lead to transmission overheating and failure.
It can also damage the tires. Do not spin the
wheels above 30 mph (48 km/h) while in gear (no
transmission shifting occurring).

FREEING A STUCK VEHICLE
NOTE:
If your vehicle becomes stuck in mud, sand, or snow,
it can often be moved using a rocking motion. Turn the
steering wheel right and left to clear the area around
the front wheels. Then shift back and forth between
DRIVE (D) and REVERSE (R), while gently pressing the
accelerator. Use the least amount of accelerator pedal
pressure that will maintain the rocking motion without
spinning the wheels or racing the engine.
Shifts between DRIVE and REVERSE can only be
achieved at wheel speeds of 5 mph (8 km/h) or less.
Whenever the transmission remains in NEUTRAL (N)
for more than two seconds, you must press the brake
pedal to engage DRIVE or REVERSE.
This vehicle must be towed with the wheels OFF the
ground.
The tow ring provided with the car is housed in the tool
bag under the boot mat. The car may not be towed. It
can only be transported on a tow truck.
Push the ESC OFF button to place the Electronic
Stability Control (ESC) system in “Partial OFF” mode,
before rocking the vehicle. Once the vehicle has been
freed, push the ESC OFF button again to restore “ESC
On” mode.
CAUTION!
Do not use sling type equipment when towing.
Vehicle damage may occur.

CAUTION!
ATTACHING THE TOW HOOK
Proceed as follows:
CAUTION!
When securing the vehicle to a flat bed truck,
do not attach to front or rear suspension
components. Damage to your vehicle may result
from improper towing.
Before tightening the ring clean the threaded housing
thoroughly. Make sure that the ring is fully fastened
in the housing before towing the car.
Release the cap.
ENHANCED ACCIDENT RESPONSE SYSTEM
(EARS)
This vehicle is equipped with an Enhanced Accident
Response System.
CAUTION!
To avoid damage toyour vehicle or tires, observe the
following precautions:
Because of restrictedtraction device clearance
between tires and other suspension components,it
is important that only traction devices in good
condition are used.Broken devices can cause
serious damage. Stop the vehicle immediatelyif
noise occurs that could indicate device breakage.
Remove the damagedparts of the device before
further use.

EVENT DATA RECORDER (EDR)
This vehicle is equipped with an Event Data Recorder
(EDR). The main purpose of an EDR is to record
data that will assist in understanding how a vehicle’s
systems performed under certain crash or near crash-
like situations, such as an air bag deployment or hitting
Take the tow ring out of its housing in the tool
support.
Install device as tightlyas possible and then
retighten after driving about ½ mile (0.8 km).
Fully tighten it on the threaded pin.

ð
Drive cautiously andavoid severe turns and large
bumps, especially with a loaded vehicle.
Do not drive for aprolonged period on dry
pavement.
Observe the tractiondevice manufacturer’s
instructions on the method of
installation,operating speed, and conditions for
use. Always use the suggestedoperating speed of
the device manufacturer’s if it is less than 30mph
(48 km/h).
