The interior lighting is activated for a short

time when the key is removed from the igni-

tion lock. This delayed switch-off can be

adjusted using COMAND Online or Audio 20

(see the separate operating instructions).

Manual interior lighting control

^XTo switch the front interior lighting on:

set the switch to the c position.

To switch off the interior lighting: set the

switch to the | position or (if the door is

closed) to the centre position.

^XTo switch the rear interior lighting on or

off: press the u button.

^XTo switch the reading lamp on or off:

press the p button.

Crash-responsive emergency lighting

The interior lighting is activated automatically

if the vehicle is involved in an accident.

General notes

^XTo switch off the crash-responsive

emergency lighting: press the hazard

warning lamp button.

In order to prevent the vehicle's battery from

discharging, the interior lighting functions are

automatically deactivated after some time

except when the key is in position 2 in the

ignition lock.

Lock and then unlock the vehicle using the

key.

The colour and brightness for the ambient

lighting may be set using COMAND Online or

Audio 20 (see the separate operating instruc-

tions).

Automatic interior lighting control

Bulbs, lamps and plug connectors can

become very hot during use. When replacing a

bulb, you could burn yourself on these com-

ponents. There is a risk of injury.

Overview of bulb replacement – bulbs

Allow these components to cool down before

replacing the bulb.

You can replace the following bulbs. The

details for the bulb type can be found in the

legend.

Do not use a bulb that has been dropped or if

its glass tube has been scratched.

The bulb may explode if:

R

you touch it

R

it is hot

R

you drop it

R

you scratch it

Only operate bulbs in enclosed lamps

designed for that purpose. Only fit spare

bulbs of the same type and the specified volt-

age.

Marks on the glass tube reduce the service

life of the bulbs. Do not touch the glass tube

with your bare hands. If necessary, clean the

glass tube when cold with alcohol or spirit and

rub it off with a lint-free cloth.

Protect bulbs from moisture during opera-

tion. Do not allow bulbs to come into contact

with liquids.

Vehicles with halogen headlamps

Dipped-beam headlamp: H7 55 W

Main-beam headlamp/side lamp/park-

ing lamp: H15 55 W/15 W

Turn signal lamp: PY 21 W

Replace only the bulbs listed (Y page 126).

Have the bulbs that you cannot replace your-

self replaced at a qualified specialist work-

shop.

If you require assistance replacing bulbs, con-

sult a qualified specialist workshop.

If the new bulb still does not light up, consult

a qualified specialist workshop.

Tail lamps (vehicles with halogen headlamps)

Bulbs and lamps are an important aspect of

vehicle safety. You must therefore make sure

that these function correctly at all times.

Have the headlamp setting checked regularly.

Reversing lamp: W 21 W

Turn signal lamp: PY 21 W

Rear foglamp: W 21 W

Vehicles with LED headlamps: the light

clusters of your vehicle are equipped with

LED light bulbs. Do not replace the bulbs

yourself. Contact a qualified specialist work-

shop which has the necessary specialist

knowledge and tools to carry out the work

required.

Turn bulb holder ; anticlockwise and pull

out.

Pull the bulb out of bulb holder ;.

Insert the new bulb into bulb holder ;.

Insert bulb holder ; and turn it clockwise.

Replacing the front bulbs

Fitting/removing the cover on the front

wheel arch

Press on housing cover : and turn it to the

right.

Replace the cover in the front wheel arch

(Y page 127).

Main-beam headlamps and side lamps/

parking lamps (vehicles with halogen

headlamps)

You must remove the cover of the front wheel

housing before you can change the front turn

signal lamp.

To remove: switch off the lights.

X

Turn the front wheels inwards.

X

Turn rotary knob : through 90°.

Cover ; is released.

Push cover ; down.

X

To fit: push cover ; up.

X

Turn rotary knob : through 90°.

Switch off the lights.

Cover ; is locked.

Open the bonnet.

X

Turn housing cover : anticlockwise and

remove it.

Turn bulb ; anti-clockwise and remove it.

X

Insert the new bulb and engage it to the

stop.

Press on housing cover : and turn it to the

right.

Remove the cover in the front wheel arch

remove it.

Switch off the lights.

Open the luggage compartment.

Open the side trim panel (Y page 128).

Switch off the lights.

Open the bonnet.

Turn bulb holder : anticlockwise and pull

out.

Release and remove connector ;.

Hold the tail lamp and unscrew wing nut :.

Remove the tail lamp.

Remove the bulb from bulb holder :.

Insert the new bulb into bulb holder :.

Insert bulb holder : and turn it clockwise

until it engages.

Replacing the rear bulbs

Remove nuts ? using a suitable item, e.g.

a coin.

Remove the bulb holder from the tail lamp.

You must open the side trim panel in the lug-

gage compartment before you can replace

the bulbs in the tail lamps.

To open: turn release knob : clockwise

and remove side trim panel ;.

To close: insert side trim panel ; and turn

release knob : anti-clockwise.
