Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal  
pattern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with  
an initial maximum force of 59 lb-ꢀ (80 Nm).  
The following does not apply if the new wheel  
is an emergency spare wheel.

Never install more than one emergency  
spare wheel or spare wheel that diꢂers  
in size.  
#
Vehicles with tire pressure loss warning sys-  
tem: Restart the tire pressure loss warning  
system (/ page 299).  
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal  
pattern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with  
the speciꢁed tightening torque of 96 lb-ꢀ  
(130 Nm).  
Only use an emergency spare wheel or  
spare wheel brieꢃy.  
Do not deactivate ESP®.

Vehicles with a tire pressure monitoring sys-  
tem: Restart the tire pressure monitoring sys-  
tem (/ page 298).

Have the emergency spare wheel or  
spare wheel of a diꢂerent size replaced  
at the nearest qualiꢁed specialist work-  
shop. The new wheel must have the cor-  
rect dimensions.

WARNING Risk of accident due to incor-  
rect tightening torque

The wheels could come loose if the wheel  
bolts or wheel nuts are not tightened to the  
prescribed torque.  
Notes on the emergency spare wheel

The emergency spare wheel is secured in the  
emergency spare wheel bag in the trunk.

Ensure that the wheel bolts or wheel  
nuts are tightened to the prescribed  
tightening torque.  
Observe the following notes on removing an emer-  
gency spare wheel:  
The wheel or tire sizes and the tire type of the  
emergency spare wheel or spare wheel and  
the wheel to be replaced may diꢂer. The emer-  
gency spare wheel or spare wheel can signiꢁ-  
cantly impair driving characteristics of the  
vehicle.

If necessary, allow the air to escape.

To release air from the tire: remove the valve

Check the tire pressure of the newly installed  
wheel and adjust it if necessary.

Press down the metal insert in the valve using  
a pointed object, e.g. a pen.

Screw the valve cap onto the valve.  
the tire pressure monitoring system cannot  
function reliably. For a few minutes aꢀer an  
emergency spare wheel is installed, the sys-  
tem may still display the tire pressure of the  
removed wheel. Only restart the system again  
when the emergency spare wheel has been  
replaced with a new wheel.  
Inꢃatinng the emergency spare wheel  
Observe the following notes on installing an emer-  
gency spare wheel:

NOTE Overheating due to the tire inꢃation  
compressor running too long

The maximum permissible speed with an  
emergency spare wheel installed is 50 mph  
(80 km/h).

Do not run the tire inꢃation compressor  
for longer than ten minutes without inter-  
ruption.

Do not equip the emergency spare wheel with  
snow chains.  
Be sure to also observe the following further rela-  
ted subjects:

Replace the emergency spare wheel aꢀer six  
years at the latest, regardless of wear.  
R
Comply with the manufacturer's safety notes on  
the sticker of the emergency spare wheel and on  
the tire inꢃation compressor.

Check the tire pressure of the emergency  
spare wheel installed. Correct the pressure as  
necessary.

Remove the tire inꢃation compressor from the  
storage well under the trunk ꢃoor  
Vehicles with a tire pressure loss warning sys-  
tem: If an emergency spare wheel is installed,  
the tire pressure loss warning system cannot  
function reliably. Only restart the system  
again when the emergency spare wheel has  
been replaced with a new wheel.

Observe the notes on sockets (/ page 107).  
Unscrew union nut 2 of ꢁller hose 1 from  
the valve.

Press the start/stop button once to switch on  
the power supply (/ page 128).  
Screw the valve cap of the emergency spare  
wheel onto the valve again.  
#
Press on and oꢂ switch 4 on the tire inꢃation  
compressor to I.  
The tire inꢃation compressor is switched on.  
The tire is inꢃated. The tire pressure is shown  
on manometer 5.  
Store ꢁller hose 1 and plug 3 in the lower  
section of the tire inꢃation compressor hous-  
ing.

Store the tire inꢃation compressor in the vehi-  
cle.  
#
Pump the tire to the speciꢁed tire pressure.  
#
#
Pull ꢁller hose 1 and plug 3 out of the tire  
inꢃation compressor housing.

The speciꢁed tire pressure is stated on the  
label of the emergency spare wheel.  
Insert plug 7 of ꢁller hose 1 in the socket  
on the tire inꢃation compressor and then turn  
it until plug 7 engages.

When the speciꢁed tire pressure has been  
reached, press on and oꢂ switch 4 on the  
tire inꢃation compressor to 0.

Unscrew the cap from the valve on the emer-  
gency spare wheel.  
The tire inꢃation compressor is switched oꢂ.  
#
#
Press the start/stop button to switch oꢂ the  
power supply.  
Screw union nut 2 of ꢁller hose 1 onto  
valve.  
If the tire pressure is higher than the speciꢁed  
pressure, press pressure release valve button  
6 until the correct tire pressure has been  
reached.  
Make sure on and oꢂ switch 4 of the tire  
inꢃation compressor is set to 0.

Insert plug 3 in a socket in your vehicle.
