Do not modify the ball coupling or the
trailer hitch.
If the roadway is very narrow and winding.
Mercedes‑AMG vehicles: be sure to observe
the notes in the Supplement. Otherwise, you
may fail to recognize dangers.

Multimedia system:
If the vehicle/trailer combination swerves,
you can lose control of it.
The vehicle/trailer combination can even tip
over.
If you install an unsuitable ball coupling,
overloading of the trailer hitch and rear axle
will be the result. This is particularly the case
if the ball coupling is relatively long or angled
differently.

Install and secure the ball coupling as
Attaching the ball neck
described in the ball coupling manufac‐
turer's installation instructions.
Vehicles with level control system: the
vehicle level may be changed unintentionally,
e.g. by other persons. You may become trap‐
ped if you couple up or uncouple a trailer
while the vehicle level is changing. In addi‐
tion, other people could become trapped if
their limbs are between the vehicle body and
the tires or underneath the vehicle.

WARNING Risk of accident due to an
incorrectly installed and secured ball
coupling
When coupling up or uncoupling a trailer,
make sure that:
If the ball coupling has not been correctly
installed and secured, the trailer can become
detached.

WARNING Risk of being crushed and
becoming trapped when uncoupling a
trailer
R
The trailer lighting system is in working
order.
Charging the trailer battery using the power
supply of the trailer can damage the vehicle
battery.
When uncoupling a trailer with an engaged
inertia-activated brake, your hand may
become trapped between the vehicle and the
trailer drawbar.

Vehicle towing instructions
#
Do not uncouple trailers with an
engaged overrun brake.
The vehicle is not suitable for the use of tow bar
systems that are used for flat towing or dinghy
towing, for example. Attaching and using tow bar
systems can lead to damage on the vehicle.
When you are towing a vehicle with tow bar sys‐
tems, safe driving characteristics cannot be
guaranteed for the towing vehicle or the towed
vehicle. The vehicle-trailer combination may
swerve from side to side. Comply with the per‐
mitted towing methods (/ page 449) and the
instructions for towing with both axles on the
ground (/ page 450).
&
WARNING Risk of becoming trapped
when disconnecting the trailer cable
Vehicles with level control system: The
vehicle may lower when the trailer cable is
disconnected.
This could result in you or other people
becoming trapped if your or their limbs are
between the vehicle body and the tires or
underneath the vehicle.
#
Make sure that nobody is underneath
the vehicle or in the immediate vicinity
of the wheel arches when you discon‐
nect the trailer cable.
#
Disconnect the electrical connection
between the vehicle and the trailer.
