Central Information Display (CID)

Vehicle features and options

Input and display

This chapter describes all standard, coun-

try-specific and optional equipment offered

with the series. It also describes features

and functions that are not necessarily avail-

able in the vehicle, e.g., due to the selected

options or country versions. This also ap-

plies to safety-related functions and sys-

tems. When using these functions and sys-

tems, the applicable laws and regulations

must be observed.

Main menu

General information

The main menu is divided into two areas.

The left area contains menu items that can

be used to call up all functions from the

on-board monitor. The menu items in the

right area show dynamic contents that ena-

ble quick access to certain functions.

Principle

The Central Information Display (CID) com-

bines the functions of a multitude of

switches. These functions can be operated

via the Controller.

Media/Radio

Safety information

All functions of the entertainment system,

for instance radio stations or pairing with

external devices.

Warning

Operating the integrated information sys-

tems and communication devices while

driving can distract from surrounding traf-

fic. It is possible to lose control of the ve-

hicle. There is a risk of accident. Only use

the systems or devices when the traffic

situation allows. As warranted, stop and

use the systems and devices while the ve-

hicle is stationary.

Communication

Telephone and message function, e-mail and

calendar and connecting and managing mo-

bile devices, for instance smartphones.

Navigation

Access to the navigation system, destina-

tion input and traffic bulletins. Configura-

ble map views and other functions, such as

points of interest.

My MINI

Activating/deactivating the

functions

Several menu items are preceded by a

checkbox. The checkbox indicates whether

the function is activated or deactivated. Se-

lecting the menu item activates or deacti-

vates the function.

Information on vehicle status and setting

options for vehicle and on-board monitor.

Access to the Integrated Owner's Manual.

MINI Connected

Access to apps and vehicle functions. Ad-

ditional apps and vehicle functions can be

purchased from the MINI Connected Store.

Function is activated.

Function is deactivated.

Notifications

Access to all incoming messages in the ve-

hicle, for instance Check Control messages.

Status information

General information

The status field can be found in the upper

area of the control display. Status informa-

tion is displayed in the form of icons.

Letters and numbers

Depending on the menu, you can switch

between entering upper and lower case let-

ters, numbers and characters:

choice is narrowed down with every letter

entered and letters may be added automati-

cally.

Mobile phone network is not avail-

Entries are continuously compared with

data stored in the vehicle.

Roaming is active.

Only those letters are offered during en-

try for which data is available.

SMS text message received.

Message received.

Destination search: place names can be

entered in all languages that are availa-

The display can be selected in menus which

support the split screen function.

Specifying the number of displays

It is possible to specify the number of dis-

Split screen

General information

Additional information can be displayed on

the right side of the split screen, for in-

stance information from the on-board com-

puter.

In the divided screen view, the so-called

split screen, this information remains visi-

ble even when changing to another menu.

no operation is performed on the vehicle for

several minutes.

Control display

General information

To clean the control display, follow the vehi-

cle care instructions, refer to page 302.

Switching on/off manually

The control display can also be switched off

manually.

In the case of very high temperatures on

the control display, for instance due to in-

tense solar radiation, the brightness may

be reduced down to complete deactivation.

Once the temperature is reduced, for in-

stance through shade or air conditioning

system, the normal functions are restored.

Press the Controller or any button on the

Controller to switch it back on again.

Safety information

General information

Warning

The buttons can be used to open the menus

directly. The Controller can be used to se-

lect menu items and enter the settings.

Devices connected to the vehicle via a

cable, such as mobile phones or loose ob-

jects, can be thrown through the vehicle

interior while driving, such as in the event

of an accident, braking or evasive maneu-

ver. There is a risk of injury. Secure loose

objects or devices that are connected to

the vehicle via a cable.

Operation

Turn to switch between menu items, for

example.

Warning

Objects in the area in the front of the

control display can slip and damage the

control display. There is a risk of injury or

risk of damage to property. Do not place

objects in the area in front of the control

display.

Switching on/off automatically

The control display is switched on automat-

ically when the vehicle is unlocked or as

soon as the control display is needed for

operation.

In certain situations, the control display is

switched off automatically, for instance if

Selecting menu items

Highlighted menu items can be selected.

An arrow indicates that additional displays

can be opened.

1. Turn the Controller until the desired

menu item is highlighted.

Opening recently used menus

The recently used menus can be displayed.

2. Press the Controller.

The recently used menus are dis-

played.

Adjusting menu contents

The display of menus "Media/Radio",

"Communication" and "MINI Connected" can

be adjusted, for instance to remove the en-

tries of functions that are not used from the

menu.

Going to the Options menu

Press the button.

The "Options" menu is displayed.

Via the Central Information Display (CID):

The menu consists of various areas, for in-

stance:

1. Select the menu.

2. "Personalize menu"

"Split screen": screen settings.

3. Select desired menu contents to be dis-

played.

"Media/Radio": control options for the

selected main menu.

"Save station": if applicable, further con-

trol options for the selected menu.

Dynamic contents

You can display dynamic contents within

the menu items. The contents of the menu

items update automatically, e.g., the active

destination guidance in the navigation.

For alphabetical lists with more than 30 en-

tries, the letters for which there is an entry

are displayed at the left edge.

tions can be called up via the main menu.

Adjusting the main menu

Tap on the icon.

1. Turn the Controller to the left or right

quickly.

2. Drag the menu item to the desired posi-

tion on the right or left.

All letters for which there are entries

are displayed on the left edge.

Selecting menu items

Tap the desired menu item.

2. Select the first letter of the desired en-

try.

The first entry of the selected letter is

displayed.

Dynamic contents

You can display dynamic contents within

the menu items. The contents of the menu

items update automatically, e.g., the active

destination guidance in the navigation.

Operation via touchscreen

Via the Central Information Display (CID):

General information

Depending on the equipment version, the

control display is equipped with a touch-

screen.

After a menu item is selected, a new display

Entering letters and numbers

Input

Storing a function

1. Select the function via the Central Infor-

mation Display (CID).

Tap the icon on the touchscreen.

Press and hold the desired but-

ton, until a signal sounds.

A keyboard is displayed on the control

Executing a function

Press the button.

Deleting

The function will work immediately.

Icon Function

This means for instance that the connection

is established when a phone number is se-

lected.

Tapping the icon: deletes the letter

or number.

Tapping and holding the icon all

letters: deletes all letters or num-

bers.

Displaying the key assignment

Touch buttons with finger. Do not wear

gloves or use objects.

The assignment of the buttons is displayed

in the upper area of the control display.

Operating navigation map

The navigation map can be moved using the

touchscreen.

Deleting the button assignments

1. Press buttons 1 and 6 simultaneously

for approx. 5 seconds.

General information

The Central Information Display (CID) func-

tions can be stored on the programmable

memory buttons and called up directly, for

instance radio stations, navigation destina-

tions, phone numbers and menu entries.

Settings are stored for the driver profile

currently used.
