Coasting
This chapter describes model-specific
equipment, systems, and functions that are
currently available, or may become available
in the future, even if they are not present in
the vehicle.
Principle
The drive system allows the vehicle to coast
freely with minimal deceleration in selector
lever position D. This driving condition is
referred to as coasting. This reduces fuel
consumption.
Additional information:
Vehicle equipment, refer to page 8.
General information
An anticipatory driving style helps the
driver use the coasting function often and
enhances the consumption-reducing effect
of coasting.
Reducing fuel consumption
Principle
The vehicle contains advanced technologies
for the reduction of consumption and emis-
sion values.
Coasting is automatically adapted to the re-
spective driving situation.
Exemplary driving situations
If you can travel a certain distance without
any foreseeable need to brake, it is benefi-
cial to coast.
There are some actions you can take to
change your fuel consumption and environ-
mental impact:
Remove unnecessary cargo from the ve-
hicle.
The following example driving situations
may be suitable for coasting:
Remove add-on parts, e.g., a rear carrier,
after use.
Coasting on a straight downhill gradient
with no obstacles.
Close the windows and glass sunroof
while driving.
Coasting on a distance without obsta-
cles.
Check the tire pressure regularly and in-
crease it as necessary.
Avoid late or strong braking.
Switch off the engine if the vehicle is to
remain stationary for a longer period.
Functional requirements
Note the following functional requirements
when coasting:
Practice anticipatory driving and let the
vehicle coast more often.
Selector lever position D is engaged.
The brake has not been applied.
Deactivate functions that are not re-
quired, e.g., rear window heating.
Have the vehicle serviced regularly.
The accelerator pedal has not been
pressed.
The engine and transmission are at op-
erating temperature.

DRIVING TIPS
The function is available in the speed
range from approx. 16 mph/25 km/h to
100 mph/160 km/h.
Overview
Operation via shift paddles
Principle
Depending on the vehicle's equipment, the
Coasting mode can be influenced with the
shift paddles.
The MINI Modes switch is located
on the switch cluster and labeled EX-
PERIENCE.
Activating/deactivating coasting via
shift paddles
To activate coasting, operate the right shift
paddle.
Configuring Green Mode
General information
To configure Green Mode, proceed as fol-
lows:
To deactivate, actuate the left shift paddle.
System limits
In the following situations, coasting cannot
be used at all or only to a limited extent:
When Active Cruise Control is on.
1.
2.
On the switch cluster, select
Green Mode using the MINI Modes
switch.
Sensors are defective, dirty, or covered.
Driving in the dynamic limit range and
on steep uphill/downhill grades.
Tap the Settings icon on the Interac-
tion Unit.
If the battery charge level is too low
temporarily, or if the electrical system
requires too much power.
3. Select the desired setting.
Resetting the settings
To reset the settings, proceed as follows:
Green Mode
Principle
Green Mode helps promote an efficient driv-
ing style.
1.
2.
On the switch cluster, select
Green Mode using the MINI Modes
switch.
In addition, the efficiency trainer displays
situation dependent notes to assist with an
efficient driving style.
Tap the Settings icon on the Interac-
tion Unit.
3. "Reset settings".
The extended range achieved can be dis-
played as a bonus range on the Interaction
Unit.

DRIVING TIPS
Saving fuel
The efficient range of the power gauge is
colored green. Additionally, the bonus range
will be displayed.
Efficiency trainer
Principle
The bonus range and animal symbols for ef-
ficient driving styles are displayed, depend-
ing on the driving situation.
The Efficiency Coach supports an anticipa-
tory and comfort-oriented driving style. To
do so, map and sensor data is used to ana-
lyze the current driving situation, e.g., pre-
ceding vehicles. Based on this information,
the driver receives notices for an efficient
driving style early on.
If the power gauge moves within the green
range, the current driving style is efficient.
If the driving style is inefficient, the dis-
play changes to red and the animal symbol
changes.
Additional information:
General information
The system has different displays to support
the driver with an efficient driving style.
Power gauge, refer to page 140.
Bonus range
A modified driving style helps
you extend your driving range.
Functional requirements
Note the following functional requirements
when using the Efficiency Coach:
The extended range is dis-
played as a bonus range on the
Interaction Unit.
Selector lever position D is engaged.
It may be necessary to activate Experi-
ence View in the MINI Modes settings.
The increase/decrease in the bonus range is
symbolized by the arrow to the left of the
bonus range, providing an indication of the
current driving style.
Display
The intervals for resetting the bonus range
depend on the settings of the trip data.
General information
When Green Mode is enabled, the view on
the Interaction Unit switches to the specific
Green Mode view.
Display in case of inefficient driving
style
In addition, full-screen view and minimal-
ist view contain visualizations for the Effi-
ciency Coach.
An arrow appears on the Interaction
Unit when the vehicle is driven be-
yond its efficient range.
Some system information can also be dis-
played in the Head-up display.
For instance, this is displayed in the follow-
ing situations:
Excessive acceleration.
Excessive speed.
In addition, information on the reason for
the delay can be displayed.
