PRECAUTION

The TOYOTA AVENSIS/CORONA is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) such as the

driver airbag, front passenger airbag and side airbag. Failure to carry out service operation in the correct

sequence could cause the SRS to unexpectedly deploy during servicing, possibly leading to a serious acci-

dent. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts, inspection or replacement), be sure to read

the precautionary notices in the RS section.

REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISHES

(a) w/ Curtain Shield Airbag:

(1) Remove the 2 bolts.

(2) Pack the airbag with protection cover.

(3) Using a screwdriver, raise the pillar garnish cover.

(4) Remove the bolt, pillar garnish cover and front pillar

garnish.

NOTICE:

Protection rang is from instrument panel to ceiling.

(b) Remove the front door scuff plates.

(c) Remove the cowl side trims.

(d) Remove the rear door opening trims.

(e) Remove the rear door scuff plates.

(f)

Remove the center pillar lower covers.

(g) Remove the front seats.

(b) Using a screwdriver, remove the cluster finish panel, then

disconnect the connector.

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 1 register.

Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 1 under cover.

HINT:

: 3 Clips

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

12. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR

(a) Remove the damper clip from the bracket as shown in the

illustration.

(b) Remove the 2 glove shaft and glove compartment door.

13. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE HOLE COVER

(a) M/T:

Remove the shift lever knob.

(b) Remove the box bottom mat, No. 2 box bottom mat and

box bottom panel.

(c) Remove the 2 bolts, 4 caps, 4 screws and rear console

box.

15. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER FINISH PANEL

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the 6 clips of the centerclus-

ter finish panel.

: 6 Clips

HINT:

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

(b) Remove the center cluster finish panel with holding up as

shown in the illustration.

(c) Disconnect the connectors.

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and front passenger airbag assembly.

(b) Remove the 6 screws and 3 nuts.

(b) Install the box bottom panel, No. 2 box bottom mat and

box bottom mat.

(c) M/T:

Install the shift lever knob.

(2) Install the 2 bolts.

Torque: 5.0 N·m (51 kgf·cm, 44 in.·lbf)

(3) Install the pillar garnish cover with the bolt.

NOTICE:

Be sure to tighten the bolt.

(4) Fell the pillar garnish cover.

(b) Install the front pillar garnishes.

(c) Install the front door opening trims.
