significantly reduced by releasing the

accelerator pedal without operating

the brake pedal.

To activate B, select D and press

button B

To deactivate B, press button B.

PHEV characteristics

The electric engine is integrated into

the automatic transmission.

Whenever possible the vehicle is

propelled by the electric engine. In

additon, the drive mode can be

selected.

Gear selection

Within five seconds do the following:

1. Depress and hold the brake

pedal.

2. Switch off the ignition by pressing

Start/Stop for at least one second

and move the selector forwards or

backwards.

The high voltage battery is charged

using a charging cable and

additionally by engine braking.

3. Take your foot off the brake pedal

The automatic transmission permits

automatic gearshifting (automatic

mode) or manual gearshifting

(manual mode).

4. Depress and hold the brake pedal

and push the electric parking

brake to release it.

Move the selector or press the

respective buttons.

5. Take your foot off the brake pedal

Shifting

To utilise the engine braking effect,

select a lower gear in good time when

driving downhill.

Do not leave the vehicle when the

propulsion system is running, the

sure the vehicle will not move,

even if you are on even ground,

make sure the parking brake is

applied and P is selected.

Neutral N

Free wheeling / car wash mode

To avoid that the vehicle shifts from N

into P, enable free wheeling:

With the vehicle stationary and the

engine running, depress the brake

pedal and select N.

In this mode, the propulsion system

does not transfer torque to the

The vehicle will not shift into P if it is

moving too fast. Stop the vehicle and

shift into P.

Pull left paddle - to shift to a lower

gear.

4. Depress and hold the brake pedal

and push the electric parking

brake to release it.

If a higher gear is selected when

vehicle speed is too low, or a lower

gear when vehicle speed is too high,

the shift is not executed. This can

cause a message in the Driver

Information Centre.

In manual mode, no automatic

shifting to a higher gear takes place

at high engine revolutions.

Multiple pulls allow gears to be

skipped.

5. Take your foot off the brake pedal

The symbol Y or Z with a number

beside it is indicated when

gearshifting is recommended for fuel

saving reasons.

Electronic driving programmes

Following a cold start, the operating

temperature programme increases

engine speed to quickly bring the

catalytic converter to the required

temperature.

Special programmes automatically

adapt the shifting points when driving

up inclines or down hills.

Deactivation of the automatic

operation of park position P and of

electric parking brake

For this procedure, refer to the

description of the automatic parking

brake.

In snowy or icy conditions or on other

slippery surfaces, the electronic

transmission control enables the

driver to select manually first, second

or third gear for starting off.

Press button M.

Pull steering wheel paddles to select

gears manually.

Pull right paddle + to shift to a higher

gear.

Manual mode

Manual mode M can be activated in

each driving situation and speed

when D is selected.
