WARNING!
(XC70 with 3-portion rear seat)
· For reasons of safety, the centre seat
backrest should never be left loose in

· If the centre seat backrest is removed,
hard braking may cause unsecured
objects in the cargo area to be thrown
forward between the outer backrests.
· The right-hand side of the backrest must
be upright when the centre seat backrest
is folded into place. Otherwise, the centre
seat backrest cannot lock into place and
the centre seatbelt cannot be used.

Rear seat backrest position
You can adjust the positions of the two rear
seat backrests. To adjust a backrest to the cargo
position*:
· Press the catch until the red mark is visible.
· Pull the backrest forwards to a new locked
position.
· Make sure that the backrest is secured in a
locked position and that the red mark is no
longer visible.
Follow the same procedure to adjust the
backrest to an upright position.
* The cargo position increases the cargo area.
NOTE! Make sure that the holes in the plastic
ferrules on the top of the backrest engage with
the hooks on the bottom of the seat cushion.
When you later raise the backrest and seat
cushion, the head restraints must be returned to
their normal positions.
WARNING!
Do not position heavy items right up against the front seats. The forward-folded backrest will
then be pressed down unnecessarily hard. Never load above the level of the backrests. If you do,
the cargo could be thrown forward during heavy braking or in a collision and seriously injure you
or your passengers. Also remember to secure the cargo properly to prevent it moving about.
Removing the seat cushion
(2 or 3 portion rear seat)
The seat cushion can easily be removed. You
will then have a somewhat longer cargo
compartment.
Pull the red lock pins forward to unlock the seat
cushion. Then lift the seat cushion.

consumer that uses more than 0.1 A is connec-
ted to the electric socket, a warning message is
shown on the display.
Remember not to use the socket when the
ignition is switched off, if there is a risk of
draining the battery.
80
WARNING!
· Do not position heavy items right up against
the front seats. The forward-folded backrest
will then be pressed down unnecessarily
hard. Never load above the level of the
backrests. If you do, the cargo could be
thrown forward during heavy braking or in
a collision and seriously injure you or your
passengers. Also remember to secure the
cargo properly to prevent it moving about.
· When the rear seat backrest is folded down,
do not load objects higher than 50 mm from
the top edge of the rear passenger door
window. Otherwise, the protection offered
by the inflatable curtain hidden inside the
headlining will be compromised.
Loading
8501266A
8502786m
Loading in the cargo area
Seat belts and airbags afford the driver and
front seat passenger excellent protection,
especially in a frontal collision. You must also
think of protecting yourself from behind. When
loading cargo you should bear in mind that
objects in the cargo area, if they are not
properly anchored and correctly positioned, can
be thrown forward at great speed and conside-
rable force in a collision or during heavy
braking and cause serious injury.
Remember that in a frontal collision at
50 km/h (31 mph) an object weighing 20 kg
corresponds to a collision weight of 1 000 kg.
Bear the following in mind when
loading cargo:
· Place the load close up against the backrest.
· Place heavy objects as low down as
possible.
· Place wide objects on either side of the
backrest split.
· Secure the load using suitable straps
attached to the cargo lashing eyes.
· Never load above the level of the backrest
without using a cargo net.
General
Load capacity depends on the car’s total kerb
weight, including any accessories that are
mounted. Kerb weight includes the driver, the
weight of the fuel tank when filled to 90% and
various fluids, such as washer fluid and
coolant. Mounted accessories, i.e. towbar, load
carrier, roof box, etc., are included in the kerb
weight.
The load capacity of the car is reduced by the
number of passengers and their weight.
WARNING!
The driving characteristics of the car
change based on its kerb weight and
how heavily it is loaded.

Protective grate XC70
For reasons of safety, the protective grate in the
cargo compartment must always be fastened
and secured correctly.

the knob (1) to red (to unlock).
· Insert the spring-loaded ends of the
protective grate into the attachment points

· Press in and turn the knob (1) to green (to
lock).
NOTE: The green marking on the bracket (2)
and the marking on the knob (1) must be
opposite each other after installation. Otherwise
there is no impact protection.
Do the following to remove the protective
grate:
· Fold down the backrests.
· Use a Torx screwdriver to press in and turn
the knob (1) towards red so that the
marking on the knob matches the marking
on the bracket.
· Press the protective grate towards the
opposite mounting until it comes out of the
ceiling panel. Reduce the amount of
pressure once the mounting has come past
the ceiling panel and pull the grate carefully
towards you so that the grate also releases
on the other side. Do not angle the grate too
much as it could become wedged and be
difficult to pull out.
Nylon cargo net V70
(2-portion rear seat)
The car is equipped with a cargo net made of
strong nylon fabric which can be unrolled from
the rear seat backrest. The cargo net will upon
unrolling, self-lock after about a minute, if the

· First hook the rod in the bracket on the
right-hand side (A). Then pull the rod out
and hook it on the left-hand side (B).
· Pull up the left-hand cargo net and secure it
to the rod.
· Remove in reverse order.
