Removing and installing filler pipe for  
washer fluid reservoir  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Torque wrench -V.A.G 1783-  
Removing:  
– Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and withdraw  
ignition key.  
– Drain washer fluid reservoir until water level has dropped  
below opening for filler pipe.  
– Unscrew securing bolt -arrow- of filler pipe.  
– Pull filler pipe -B- in -direction of arrow- out of washer fluid  
reservoir -A-.  
Installing:  
Install in the reverse order of removal. When doing this, note  
the following:  
– Check seal at base of filler pipe for signs of damage, renew  
if necessary.

– Insert filler pipe in washer fluid reservoir as far as stop (use  
lubrication if necessary). When doing this, note position of  
locating element.  
– Tighten securing bolt for filler pipe to 2 Nm.

Removing and installing washer fluid  
reservoir  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Torque wrench -V.A.G 1783-  
Removing:  
– Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and withdraw  
ignition key.  
– Remove filler pipe for washer fluid reservoir ⇒ page 84 .  
– Remove front right wheel housing liner ⇒ General body re‐  
pairs, exterior; Rep. gr. 66; Wheel housing liner; Removing  
and installing front wheel housing liner.  
– Pull black hose connector off windscreen wash pump.  
– Collect leaking fluid in accordance with regulations.  
– Release and disconnect connectors for windscreen wash  
pump.  
– Unclip retainer for wiring harness from bracket of washer  
fluid reservoir.  
Note  
For reasons of clarity, the illustration shows the fitting location of  
the washer fluid reservoir without the wing.  
– Unscrew securing bolts -arrows- from washer fluid reservoir.

– Remove washer fluid reservoir.  
Installing:  
Install in the reverse order of removal. When doing this, note  
the following:  
– Check seal at base of filler pipe for signs of damage, renew

– Install filler pipe for washer fluid reservoir ⇒ page 84 .

Note  
The windscreen washer fluid level sender -G33- is inserted in a  
rubber seal in the washer fluid reservoir.  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Torque wrench -V.A.G 1783-  
♦ Drip tray  
Removing  
– Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and withdraw  
ignition key.  
– Remove front right wheel housing liner ⇒ General body re‐  
pairs, exterior; Rep. gr. 66; Wheel housing liner; Removing  
and installing front wheel housing liner.  
– Remove filler pipe for washer fluid reservoir ⇒ page 84 .  
Note  
For reasons of clarity, the illustration shows the fitting location of  
the washer fluid reservoir without the wing.  
– Unscrew securing bolts -arrows- from washer fluid reservoir.

– Lower washer fluid reservoir as far as the connected lines  
allow to gain access to the windscreen washer fluid level  
sender -G33-.  
– Release and disconnect connector -1- on windscreen wash‐  
er fluid level sender -G33- -2-.  
– Place a drip tray under washer fluid reservoir, and collect  
any escaping washer fluid.  
– Pull windscreen washer fluid level sender -G33- -2- out of  
seal -3- in the washer fluid reservoir -4-.  
– If necessary, remove seal -3- from washer fluid reservoir.  
Installing  
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing  
observe the following:  
– Insert seal -3- in opening in washer fluid reservoir -4-, and  
make sure it is seated correctly.  
– Moisten seal -3- with washer fluid so that windscreen washer  
fluid level sender -G33- can be inserted more easily.

– Push windscreen washer fluid level sender -G33- -2- com‐  
pletely into seal.  
– Connect and engage connector -1-.

Removing and installing windscreen  
wash pump  
Note  
The windscreen washer pump is installed in the washer fluid  
reservoir in the right-hand wheel housing.  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Torque wrench -V.A.G 1783-  
Removing:  
– Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and withdraw  
ignition key.  
– Remove front right wheel housing liner ⇒ General body re‐  
pairs, exterior; Rep. gr. 66; Wheel housing liner; Removing  
and installing front wheel housing liner.  
– Remove filler pipe for washer fluid reservoir ⇒ page 84 .  
Note

allow to gain access to the windscreen washer pump.  
– Swing windscreen washer pump -A- in -direction of arrow-  
out of washer fluid reservoir, and pull it out upwards.  
– Release black hose connector, and pull it off windscreen  
wash pump.  
– Collect leaking fluid in accordance with regulations.  
– Release and disconnect connectors for windscreen wash  
pump.  
Installing:  
Install in the reverse order of removal. When doing this, note  
the following:

Note  
The windscreen washer system spray jets are clipped into the  
bonnet from the inside.  
Removing:  
– Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and withdraw  
ignition key.  
– First, push spray jet upwards -arrow A-, and then swing it out  
of flap starting at bottom -arrow B-.

– Release hose clip -1- in direction of -arrow-, and pull hose  
connection -2- off spray jet.  
Note  
♦ Depending on the equipment level, heated spray jets may be  
installed in the vehicle.  
♦ The left washer jet heater element -Z20- and the right wash‐  
er jet heater element -Z21- are connected by means of an  
electrical connector.  
– If present, release and disconnect connector -3-.  
– Remove spray jet -4-.  
Installing:  
Install in the reverse order of removal. When doing this, note  
the following:  
– Fit connector -3- and hose connection -2- onto spray jet, and  
let it engage.  
– Insert spray jet into installation opening at top first, then  
press it on at bottom until it can be heard to engage.  
– Check adjustment of spray jets, and re-adjust them if neces‐  
sary ⇒ page 91 .

Adjusting spray jets for windscreen  
washer system  
Note  
♦ In case of uneven spray field due to impurities in the spray  
jet: remove spray jet and rinse it through with water in both  
directions.  
♦ Purging the spray jet with compressed air in both directions  
is then permitted.  
♦ Never use items to clean the washer jets!
