2.1  
Removing and installing onboard sup‐  
ply control unit  
Note  
On vehicles up to 06.2012, there is a separate data bus  
diagnostic interface -J533- installed in conjunction with the  
start/stop system.  
In conjunction with the start/stop system, in all vehicles in‐  
cluding vehicles as of 07.2012 the data bus diagnostic inter‐  
face -J533- function is integrated into the onboard supply  
control unit.  
On vehicles as of 07.2012, the data bus diagnostic interface  
-J533- integrated into the onboard supply control unit can be  
identified via the vehicle diagnostic tester by the last three  
digits of the part number "090".  
Caution  
To disconnect and reconnect the battery, the procedure de‐  
scribed in the workshop manual should be strictly adhered to  
⇒ page 11 .  
Removing:  
– Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and withdraw  
ignition key.  
– Disconnect battery ⇒ page 11 .  
The onboard supply control unit is installed on left under dash  
panel, behind fuse holder.  
– Grip behind onboard supply control unit and release both  
connectors by pressing connector latches from bottom to  
top.

– Push locking lever -arrows- downwards.  
– With locking lever pressed, remove onboard supply control  
unit from bracket in -direction of arrow A-.  
Installing:  
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence of removal.  
Note  
Each of the two 73-pin connectors is mechanically coded to  
prevent them from being mismatched.  
2.2  
Flashing, commissioning and coding  
onboard supply control unit  
Flashing onboard supply control unit:  
The following requirements must be met for flashing the on‐  
board supply control unit:  
♦ Ignition is switched on.  
♦ Engine is switched off (speed = 0 rpm).  
♦ The vehicle must not move (vehicle speed = 0 km/h).  
♦ The driver door must be open.  
If one of these requirements is not met, the vehicle diagnostic  
tester will display an error code and prevent the control unit  
from being flashed.  
Commissioning of a new onboard supply control unit:  
The following requirements must be met for commissioning of a  
new onboard supply control unit:

♦ The onboard supply control unit must be correctly installed  
and wired, i.e. all contacts must be connected.  
♦ The immobiliser must be taught-in.  
♦ The vehicle must be unlocked.  
♦ The event memory must not contain any entries which indi‐  
cate that one of the requirements for the commissioning of a  
new onboard supply control unit is not met.  
Coding onboard supply control unit ⇒ page 265 .  
Coding onboard supply control unit:  
– Connect vehicle diagnostic tester ⇒ Electrical system, Gen‐  
eral information; Rep. gr. 97; Vehicle diagnosis, testing and  
information systems; Connecting vehicle diagnostic tester.  
– Select operating mode “Guided Fault Finding” in vehicle di‐  
agnosis tester.  
– Using “GoTo” button, select “Functions/component” and then  
the following menu options in succession:  
♦ Body  
♦ Electrical system  
♦ 01 - Self-diagnosis compatible systems  
♦ Onboard supply control unit  
♦ Functions of convenience system central control unit  
– Select corresponding work step on vehicle diagnostic tester.

Removing and installing data bus diag‐  
nostic interface -J533-  
Note  
On vehicles up to 06.2012, there is a separate data bus  
diagnostic interface -J533- installed in conjunction with the  
start/stop system.  
In conjunction with the start/stop system, in all vehicles in‐  
cluding vehicles as of 07.2012 the data bus diagnostic inter‐  
face -J533- function is integrated into the onboard supply  
control unit.  
On vehicles as of 07.2012, the data bus diagnostic interface  
-J533- integrated into the onboard supply control unit can be  
identified via the vehicle diagnostic tester by the last three  
digits of the part number "090".  
Removing:  
– Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and withdraw  
ignition key.  
– Unclip dash panel trim below steering column.  
– Unclip data bus diagnostic interface -J533- at locations  
marked with -arrows-.

– Disconnect connector -1- from data bus diagnostic interface  
-J533-.  
– Remove data bus diagnostic interface -J533-.  
– Release heat shield catch -1- when renewing data bus diag‐  
nostic interface -J533-.  
– Remove heat shield -1- from data bus diagnostic interface  
-J533- -2- in -direction of arrow-.

Installing:  
Install in the reverse order of removal. When doing this, note  
the following:  
– If necessary, fit heat shield to new data bus diagnostic inter‐  
face -J533-.  
Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
