Seats for Your Volkswagen Caddy SUV Fifth Generation (2020-2025)

positions → Fig. 2. This reduces the risk of injury if the driver front airbag is triggered.
Never hold the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock position, or in any other manner, e.g. on the hub of the steering
wheel. If the driver front airbag is triggered, you could receive severe injuries to the arms, hands and head.
Introduction
The following section describes the options for adjusting the front seats. Always ensure that your sitting position is
correct .
WARNING
Always adjust the front seats to their correct position before any journey and ensure that all passengers have
fastened their seat belts.
Push the front passenger seat as far back as possible.
Adjust the driver seat so that there is at least 25 cm between your breastbone and the hub of the steering wheel.
Adjust the driver seat so that you are able to press the pedals all the way to the floor with your knees still slightly
bent. If your build makes it impossible to fulfil this requirement then you must contact a qualified workshop so
they can make any necessary modifications.
Never travel with the backrest tilted far back. The further back the backrest is tilted, the greater the risk of injury
caused by incorrect seat belt routing or an incorrect sitting position.
Never travel with the backrest tilted far forwards. When an airbag is triggered it could force the seat backrest
backwards and injure vehicle occupants on the back seats.
Adopt and maintain the greatest possible distance from the steering wheel and dash panel.
You should always sit upright with your back against the seat backrest with the front seats properly adjusted. Do
not position any body part too close where the airbags are fitted.
The risk of serious injury is increased for passengers on the rear seat if they are not sitting upright because the
seat belts are incorrectly positioned.
WARNING
Assuming an incorrect sitting position in the vehicle can increase the risk of severe or fatal injuries during a sudden
driving or braking manoeuvre, in the event of a collision or accident, or if the airbags are triggered.
All vehicle occupants must assume a correct sitting position before setting off and maintain this position
throughout the trip. This also applies to the fastening of seat belts.
The number of vehicle occupants must never exceed the number of seats with seat belts in the vehicle.
Always secure children in the vehicle in an authorised child restraint system suitable for their height and weight.
Always keep your feet in the footwell while the vehicle is in motion. Never place your feet on the seat or on the
dash panel and never hold your feet out the window. If you sit like this, the airbag and seat belt cannot provide
optimal protection and could actually increase the risk of injury during an accident.
WARNING
Incorrect adjustment of the seats can cause accidents and serious injuries.
The seats may only be adjusted when the vehicle is stationary, or else the seat could change position
unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion, leading to a loss of control of the vehicle. Furthermore, an incorrect
seating position is adopted while adjusting the seat.
Only adjust the height and tilt of the seat or move it forwards and backwards when the area around the seat is
clear.
The adjustment range of the seats must not be restricted by any items.
Only adjust the tilt angle of the rear seats or move them forwards and backwards when the area around the seats
is clear.
The adjustment and locking areas of the seats must not be soiled.
WARNING
Cigarette lighters in the vehicle could be damaged or accidentally lit. This could lead to serious burns and other
injuries.
Before adjusting the seats ,always ensure that there is no lighter on or near the movable parts of the seat.
123
Before closing stowage areas or compartments always make sure that there is no lighter in the way.
Never stow lighters in stowage areas, compartments or on other surfaces in the vehicle. High surface
temperatures, especially in summer, may cause cigarette lighters to self-ignite.
NOTICE
Sharp edges can damage the seats.
Do not touch the seats with sharp-edged objects. Sharp objects, such as zips, rivets on clothing or belts, may
damage surfaces. Open Velcro fasteners can also cause damage.
Mechanically adjusting the front seat
The following section contains a description of all controls. The number of controls may vary depending on the
version of the seat.
The controls are mirrored for the right-hand front seat.
The seat may have a combination of mechanical and electrical controls.

WARNING
Careless or unsupervised use of the electric front seats can result in severe injuries.
The electrical front seat adjustment also works when the ignition is switched off. Never leave children or people
requiring assistance alone in the vehicle.
In the event of an emergency, stop the electrical adjustment by pressing another switch.
NOTICE
To avoid damaging the electrical components in the front seats, do not kneel on the seats or apply sharp pressure at
a single point on the seat cushion and backrest.
It may not be possible to adjust the seat electrically if the charge level of the 12-volt vehicle battery is too
low.
Starting the engine will interrupt the seat adjustment
procedure.

WARNING
Injuries could be caused if the front passenger seat backrests are folded forwards and backwards carelessly.
Fold the front passenger seat backrest forwards and backwards only when the vehicle is stationary.
Always ensure that the operating range of the backrest is clear of people or animals when folding the front
passenger seat backrest forwards.
The front airbag must be switched off and the PASSENGER AIRBAG indicator lamp
as the front passenger seat backrest is folded forwards.
will light up for as long
When folding forwards and backwards, keep all hands, fingers, feet and other body parts away from the seat
hinges and seat release mechanism.
Floor mats or other objects could get caught in the hinges on the front passenger seat backrest. This could cause
the front passenger seat backrest to fail to engage securely when it is returned to the upright position.
When being folded back, the front passenger seat backrest must be securely locked in the upright position. If the
front passenger seat backrest is not locked properly it could move suddenly and cause severe injuries.
WARNING
The open seat anchors and hinges of the folded front passenger seat backrest could cause serious injuries in the
event of a sudden braking manoeuvre or accident.
Never transport people (adults or children) on the front passenger seat if the front passenger seat backrest is
folded forwards.
If the front passenger seat backrest is folded forwards, then you must use only the outer rear seat behind the
driver in the second row of seats. This also applies to children in child seats.
Introduction
The following section describes the options for adjusting the rear seats. Always ensure that your sitting position is
correct .
DANGER
Some components of the seats in the passenger compartment contain button cells and are accessible when the rear
seats are folded forward or removed. Swallowing a button cell can result in serious or even fatal injuries within a
very short time.
Always keep children away from rear seats when they are folded forward or removed.
Seek immediate medical attention if you believe someone may have swallowed a button cell.
WARNING
128
Incorrect adjustment or removal and fitting of the rear seats can cause accidents and severe injuries.
Keep hands, fingers, feet and other body parts away from the moving parts of the seats.
All adjustments as well as removing and fitting should be carried out only when the vehicle is stationary,
otherwise the rear seats could move suddenly when the vehicle is in motion. Furthermore, an incorrect seating
position is adopted while adjusting the seat.
All rear seats must always be fitted in their retainers and must be securely engaged.
All backrests must be in the upright position and securely engaged in this position while the vehicle is in motion.
While fitting and removing the rear seats, make sure that the seat feet are not soiled or damaged.
WARNING
Cigarette lighters in the vehicle could be damaged or accidentally lit. This could lead to serious burns and other
injuries.
Before adjusting the seats ,always ensure that there is no lighter on or near the movable parts of the seat.
The belt status indicator must be approved by a qualified workshop if seats are replaced or retrofitted at a
later date, for example a third row of seats is added . Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles recommends using a
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealership for this purpose.

When folding forwards and backwards, keep all hands, fingers, feet and other body parts away from the seat
hinges and seat release mechanism.
Floor mats or other objects could get caught in the hinges on the rear seat or the backrest. It could cause the rear
seat or the backrest to fail to lock securely when it is returned to the upright position.
Make sure that each rear seat backrest engages securely in the upright position, otherwise the seat belts for the
rear seats will not work properly. If a seat is occupied and the backrest has not clicked securely into place, the
seat occupant and backrest may move forwards in the event of a sudden braking or driving manoeuvre or during
accidents.
Adults and children must not use those seats when the rear seat or the backrest is folded forward or is not
engaged securely into place.
WARNING
An insecure backrest can cause severe injuries.
The backrest is not properly secured if you can see the red marking on the loop→ Fig. 3. Please always ensure
that the red marking is never visible when the seat backrest is in the upright position.
