WARNING
8. Close the front passenger side door or glove
box.
If the airbag system is faulty or damaged, the
airbags may not inflate or may inflate unex-
pectedly or inappropriately. This could lead to
severe injuries.
DANGER
Have the airbag system checked immediately
for damage or faults by a Volkswagen Deal-
ership.
The front passenger front airbag provides the
front passenger with additional protection
against injury in the event of an accident. The
front passenger front airbag may only be deac-
tivated in special cases.
Avoid exerting excessive forces on the side
supports of the seat backrest, otherwise the
side airbags may not inflate correctly, not in-
flate at all, or inflate unexpectedly.
Only activate or deactivate the front passen-
ger front airbag if driving has already ended.
Have the inflated airbags replaced by a
Volkswagen Dealership.
Make sure the key operated switch is adjus-
ted correctly.
Do not make unauthorized conversions,
changes or repairs to airbag system compo-
nents.
Only deactivate the front passenger front
airbag if, in exceptional cases, a rear-facing
child seat is attached to the front passenger
seat.
Have any damage to the seat coverings or
the seams in the side airbag module area re-
paired immediately by a Volkswagen Dealer-
ship.
Activate the front passenger front airbag
again as soon as the child seat in the front
passenger seat is no longer in use.
Airbag system parts must never be reused
in case of vehicle or component scrapping.
All applicable environment disposal standards
must be followed, in addition to other safety
standards in effect. Volkswagen Dealerships are
familiar with such requirements.
CAUTION
If you operate the key-operated switch incor-
rectly, the key-operated switch, door trim, in-
strument panel and vehicle key may be dam-
aged.
Insert the vehicle key bit into the key-oper-
ated switch up to the second resistance so
that the key-operated switch is not damaged
when turned.
Safe transportation of children
Make sure you have removed the vehicle key
from the key operated switch before driving.
Children's seats
There are several types of child seats adapted to
the child's size, age and weight. Different stand-
ards and regulations apply in different countries
to the mounting possibilities of child seats.

Not all countries allow you to transport children
on the front passenger seat. Legislation and legal
requirements take precedence over the descrip-
tions in this document.
Hazards of transporting children on the front
passenger seat
Exceptions provided to transport children in the
front seat.
Volkswagen recommends using child seats from
the Volkswagen Original Accessories Program.
These child seats were developed and approved
for use in Volkswagen vehicles.
When the vehicle only has front seats.
When the number of children below the age of
10 exceeds the rear seat capacity. In this case,
it is recommended to transport children with
greatest stature may be transported in the
front seat, using the vehicle's seat belt or the
appropriate securing system according to the
child's age.
Note the following points:
Child seats must correspond to the child's size,
age and weight.
Only secure one child per child seat.
When the vehicle is originally equipped (manu-
factured) with lap seat belts (two points) in the
rear seats.
Never transport children, small children or ba-
bies on other passengers' laps.
Never leave children unsupervised in a child
seat.
WARNING
Risk of injuries with incorrectly installed child
seats.
Observe the child seat manufacturer's instruc-
tions regarding the correct position of the seat
belt laces. Incorrectly fastened seat belts can
cause injuries even in minor accidents.
Observe and follow the child seat manufac-
turer's installation instructions and warnings.
WARNING
WARNING
Unprotected or insufficiently protected children
can suffer serious or fatal injuries.
In the event of an accident, the rear seat is the
safest place for children with properly fastened
seat belts.
Always transport children in suitable child
seats!
A suitable child seat, correctly fitted and
used on one of the rear seats, will provide
the maximum level of protection for children
up to 12 years old in most accident scenar-
ios.
Follow the child seat manufacturer's in-
structions for securing the child seat in the
vehicle and for securing the child in the child
seat.
WARNING
A deployed head or side airbag can cause injury.
Installing child seats
Ensure that the child is not in the airbag's
deployment zone.
Securing system
You can secure child seats in the vehicle with dif-
ferent securing systems:
If available, secure child seats preferably
with ISOFIX or i-Size. If the ISOFIX and i-
Size anchoring systems are not available, secure
child seats with a three-point automatic seat
belt.
ISOFIX or i-Size. Child seat anchoring point on
the rear seats.
Other securing possibilities

Enabling or disabling the childproof lock
Unlock the vehicle and open the respective

Use only child seats approved by the child
seat manufacturer for use on the front pas-
senger seat with front and side airbag.
Never leave unattended children or people
with special needs in the vehicle with the
doors locked. This may mean that these peo-
ple lock themselves in the vehicle in case of
emergencies. Locked individuals can be ex-
posed to extremely high or low temperatures
or lack of breathable air.
Depending on the time of year, locked vehi-
cles can be subjected to extremely high or
low temperatures. This can cause serious in-
juries and illness or fatalities, particularly for
small children.
