Install the wheel cover

The anti-theft wheel bolt has a separate cover

cap. This cap only fits the anti-theft wheel bolt,

not the regular bolts.

Wheel change

NOTICE

Introduction

The wheel cover is secured to the wheel and can-

not be removed without first removing the wheel

bolts.

Only change the wheel yourself when the car is

parked in a safe place, you are familiar with the

necessary actions and safety procedures and you

have access to all the correct tools! Seek expert

assistance if this is not the case.

Wheel bolt cover

WARNING

Changing a wheel can be dangerous, especially

when carried out at the side of a road. Please

note the following points in order to reduce the

risk of serious injuries:

Stop the vehicle as soon as possible in a safe

location. Park the vehicle at a safe distance

from moving traffic in order to carry out the

wheel change.

All passengers, especially children, must be

at a safe distance and away from your area

of work during the wheel change.

Switch on the hazard warning lights and set

up the warning triangle to warn other road

users.

According to the version of the vehicle, wheel

bolt caps may not be available. For more infor-

mation about your vehicle, consult the instruc-

tion manual - digital version on the website

www.vw.com.br and also on the My Volkswagen

app.

Make sure that the ground is flat and firm. If

necessary use a large, strong board or similar

support for the vehicle jack.

Only change the wheel yourself if you feel

confident carrying out the procedure. Seek

expert assistance if this is not the case.

The caps protect the wheel bolts and must be

fully fitted back after changing the wheel.

Always use suitable and undamaged tools to

change the wheel.

Removing and fitting the protection caps

Remove:

Always switch off the engine, firmly apply

the handbrake and, with an automatic gear-

box move the selector lever to position P or

engage a gear on a manual gearbox to re-

duce the risk of the vehicle moving.

1. Take the wire hook from the vehicle toolkit

→ page 23.

2. Pass the extractor hook through the opening

in the cover → Fig. 30and pull it out in the di-

rection of the arrow.

The wheel bolt tightening torque should be

checked with a torque wrench immediately

after changing a wheel.

Install:

1. fit until the stop on the wheel bolts.

Wheel bolt tightening torque

Prescribed tightening torque for light alloy wheel

rims and steel wheel rims:

In vehicles with a tire pressure control indi-

cator (only for Saveiro when available), if ap-

plicable, the system must be reprogrammed

after changing the wheel.

120 Nm

If the wheel bolts are corroded and difficult to

turn, they must be replaced and the wheel hub

threads cleaned before the tightening torque is

checked.

Wheel bolts

Please refer to at the start of the chapter

on page 31.

Never grease or lubricate the wheel bolts or the

threads of the wheel hub. This could cause them

to loosen while the vehicle is in motion, even if

the required torque setting is used.

The tightening torque should be checked with a

torque wrench immediately after changing a

wheel.

WARNING

Incorrectly tightened wheel bolts can loosen

while the vehicle is in motion and cause acci-

dents, serious injury, and loss of control of the

vehicle.

Only use wheel bolts corresponding to the

respective wheel.

Never use different wheel bolts.

The wheel bolts and threads of the wheel

hubs must be clean, free from oil and grease,

and turn easily.

Only the spanner delivered with the vehicle

should be used to loosen the wheel bolts.

Only loosen the wheel bolts by approximately

one turn before raising the vehicle with the vehi-

cle jack.

Always use the box spanner placed in the ve-

hicle at the factory to loosen and tighten the

wheel bolts.

If the wheel bolt is very tight, you may be able to

loosen it by pushing down the end of the spanner

carefully with your foot. Hold on to the car for

support and take care not to slip.

Only loosen the wheel bolts by approximate-

ly one turn before raising the vehicle with

the vehicle jack.

If the tightening torque of the wheel bolts is

too low, the wheel bolts and wheels can

loosen while the vehicle is in motion. The

wheel bolts and threads can be damaged if

the tightening torque is too high.

Loosening the wheel bolts

Fit the box spanner over the wheel bolt as far

as it will go → Fig. 31.

Hold the end of the box spanner and turn the

wheel bolt approximately one turn anticlock-

wise →

Important information about the wheel bolts

The wheel bolts were specifically designed for

the factory-fitted wheels. If different wheels are

fitted, the correct wheel bolts with the right

length and properly shaped bolt heads must be

used. This ensures that the wheels are fitted se-

curely and that the brake system works properly.

remove baggage items.

the wheel screws.

13. Find the jacking point under the vehicle

→ Fig. 32 closest to the wheel that is being

changed.

14. Vehicles with external sills: remove the ac-

cess cover to the jack support point.

Jack (variant 1) - Insert the tip of the

wrench in the jack and hold the wrench by

the hexagonal end. OR Jack (variant 2) -

activate the jack with the crank integrated

into it.

16. Raise the vehicle jack until it just fits under

the jacking point of the vehicle.

17. Ensure that the entire surface of the foot of

the jack is resting securely on the ground and

that the foot of the vehicle jack is positioned

precisely below the jacking point → Fig. 33

unstable surfaces can cause the vehicle to

slide. If necessary use a large, strong board

or similar support for the vehicle jack.

Always carry out the following activities in the

order indicated, in preparation for changing the

wheel and removing the spare or emergency

wheel

On a hard, slippery surface (such as tiles) use

a rubber mat or similar to prevent the vehicle

jack from slipping.

1. In the event of a flat tire, park the vehicle, as

far as possible, away from the flow of traffic

and on a flat, firm surface.

Fit the vehicle jack only at the points descri-

bed. The vehicle jack claw must grip the ver-

tical rib under the sill securely → Fig. 33

2. Apply the handbrake.

3. Place the automatic transmission selector

lever in position P with the ignition on.

When towing a trailer, unhitch the trailer

from the traction vehicle before changing

the wheel.

4. Stop the engine and remove the key from the

ignition switch.

5. Turn on the warning lights and position the

warning triangle. Observe legal require-

ments.

Never place any part of your body (e.g. arm

or leg) underneath the vehicle if the latter is

only supported by the vehicle jack.

6. Ensure that all occupants exit the vehicle

away from moving traffic and proceed to a

safe position.

If you have to work underneath the vehicle,

use suitable stands to provide extra support.

Never lift the vehicle while the engine is run-

ning or if the vehicle is parked over a slope

surface.

7. Block the opposite diagonal wheel with a

stone or some other suitable object.

8. While towing trailers: unhitch the trailer

from the vehicle and park it properly.

Never start the engine when the vehicle is

raised on a vehicle jack. Engine vibrations

can cause the vehicle to fall off the vehicle

jack.

9. If the luggage compartment is loaded: re-

move the load.

10. Remove the tool box from the vehicle

Ignoring any of the points on this important

safety checklist can lead to accidents and inju-

ries.

steel cable under the vehicle and must be folded

down before it can be removed → page 36.

Only remove the spare wheel or emergency

wheel yourself when you have safely parked the

vehicle and are familiar with the necessary safety

actions and precautions! Otherwise, use a speci-

alized company qualified for this purpose.

Removing the anti-theft wheel bolt

Get the anti-theft wheel bolt adapter form the

vehicle toolkit.

Wheel bolts - Amarok

Push the adapter up to the stopper on the an-

ti-theft wheel bolt → Fig. 35

Push the wheel wrench onto the adapter till

the stopper → Fig. 35.

Hold the end of the box spanner and turn the

wheel bolt approximately one turn anticlock-

wise →

Important information about the wheel bolts

The design of the wheel rims and wheel bolts is

matched to the factory-fitted wheels.

If different rims are fitted, the correct wheel

bolts with the right length and properly shaped

bolt heads must be used. This ensures that the

wheels are fitted securely and that the brake sys-

tem works properly.

In certain circumstances, wheel bolts from vehi-

cles of the same assembly series cannot be used.

Wheel bolt tightening torque

The tightening torque for wheel bolts for steel

and alloy wheels:

180 Nm.

If the wheel bolts are corroded and difficult to

turn, they must be replaced and the wheel hub

threads cleaned before the tightening torque is

checked.

Never grease or lubricate the wheel bolts or the

threads of the wheel hub.

que wrench.

Never remove the bolts on rims with bolted

on rings.

If the tightening torque of the wheel bolts is

too low, the wheel bolts and wheels can

loosen while the vehicle is in motion. The

wheel bolts and threads can be damaged if

the tightening torque is too high.

Remove the winch cover

Only use wheel bolts that belong to the

wheel.

Depending on the model version, the screw for

turning down the spare wheel or emergency

wheel is located under a cover → Fig. 36 on the

bumper or to the right next to the license plate

holder.

Never use different wheel bolts.

Lever the cover cap with the flat side of the

tool box screwdriver in the direction of the ar-

row → Fig. 36

wrench, the lifting cable may break. In the

event of a broken lifting cable, the spare or

emergency wheel is only held in position by the

anti-theft device. If the anti-theft device is re-

out and could cause serious injury.

8. Crank the vehicle jack further until the wheel

is just clear of the ground.

Always follow the instructions on the check-

list and comply with applicable safety pre-

pend the vehicle.

Before lifting the vehicle, observe the jack's

instruction manual as well as any legal re-

Never lift the vehicle while the engine is run-

When the vehicle is suspended, never start

the engine. Engine vibrations can cause the

vehicle to fall off the vehicle jack.

Position the jack only at the support points

described. The vehicle jack claw must fit se-

curely into the side member rib.

Only use jacks which have been approved by

Volkswagen Veículos Comerciais for the re-

spective vehicle. Other jacks could slide, even

those intended for other Volkswagen Com-

mercial Vehicle models

The ground must be flat and firm. Soft

ground or surfaces at an incline under the

vehicle jack may cause the vehicle to slip off

the jack. If necessary, use a stable base that

has a wide surface for the jack.

Use the box spanner to tighten all the wheel

bolts securely → . Do not tighten the bolts in

clockwise or anticlockwise sequence. Tighten

them in diagonal sequence.

If existing, fit the cover caps back on .

WARNING

An incorrect torque or incorrectly handled

wheel bolts can lead to a loss of control of the

vehicle, cause accidents and serious injuries.

Always keep all wheel bolts and threads in

the wheel hubs clean and free from oil and

grease. Wheel bolts must be easy to turn and

be tightened to the specified torque.

Wheel bolts must be clean and able to turn
