Introduction to the topic

● Certain noise sources, such as rough asphalt,

cobblestones, induction loops or industrial

machinery, and the noise of other vehicles

may cause the parking aid to issue

erroneous warnings.

The parking aid assists the driver when parking

and manoeuvring.

The parking aid calculates the distance from the

front bumper or rear bumper to an obstacle

using sensors → p. 7.

● Certain accessories retrofitted to the vehicle,

such as a bicycle carrier, may impair the

function of the parking aid.

NOTICE

● Under certain circumstances, the sensors do

not detect objects such as, for example, re-

moulded spears, bars, fences, thin posts or

trees, or an open or opening tailgate, which

could damage the vehicle.

In the event of a system malfunction, a specialist

workshop should be consulted. Volkswagen

recommends that you visit a Volkswagen dealer for

this.

● Once the parking aid has detected an

obstacle and warned of its presence, it is

possible that, as the vehicle approaches, the

obstacle will disappear from the system's

range of measurement, particularly if it is very

low or very high, and will no longer be

detected. Therefore, the system shall no

longer warn of its presence.

In order to familiarise yourself with the

recommends that you practise the

operation of the parking aid and the Optical

Special features of the parking aid

When the selector lever is in position P or the

electric parking brake is engaged, no acoustic

signal sounds.

– In some cases, the parking aid detects water

and ice that may be present or fall on the

sensors as if they were an obstacle. To

prevent automatic activation in such cases,

the automatic activation of the parking

assistance can be permanently deactivated in

the infotainment system → p. 238.

If the parking assistance is switched off, the

acoustic signals will be activated again when it

is switched on again. Error messages cannot be

deactivated.

The acoustic signals are also reactivated if the

OPS display is switched off manually and the

parking aid remains active.

– If the distance does not change, the warning

signal sounds less loudly after

seconds. If the signal sounds continuously,

the volume remains constant.

If the parking aid does not work properly,

this is indicated by a warning signal.

– As soon as the vehicle moves away from the

obstacle, the flashing signal is automatically

switched off. If the vehicle approaches the

obstacle again, the flashing beeper switches

on automatically.

This is indicated by a continuous acoustic signal

lasting approx. 3 seconds when it is switched

on for the first time, as well as by the flashing of

the indicator light in the button. Switch off the

parking aid with the button and have it checked

immediately by a qualified specialist.

– The rear parking aid sensors cannot be

switched on if the factory-fitted towing device

is electrically connected to a trailer.

Suppress the sound of parking aid

By pressing the function button button of the

infotainment system, the parking aid's acoustic

signals can be suppressed. To reactivate the

acoustic signals, the function button must be

pressed again.

Optical Parking System (OPS)

When the vehicle approaches an obstacle in

the sensor zone, an acoustic signal sounds.

When the distance to the obstacle is sufficient,

an intermittent signal sounds. The shorter the

distance, the shorter the signal intervals

become. If the vehicle comes very close to the

obstacle, a continuous signal sounds.

Please note at the beginning of this chapter

on page 235.

If, when the continuous signal sounds, the

vehicle moves closer to the obstacle, the system

will not be able to measure the distance. From a

distance of less than 25 cm, a continuous signal

sounds. Do not continue driving!

The graph shown represents the tracked areas

divided into several segments. The closer the

vehicle comes to an obstacle, the closer the

segment will be to the representation of the

vehicle. When the penultimate segment is

displayed, the collision zone is reached at the

latest. Do not continue driving!

When driving with a trailer

Rear View Assistant

Introduction to the topic

For vehicles with a factory-fitted towing device

and an electrically connected trailer, a

corresponding graphic will be shown on the

infotainment system display . The values for

the distance of the tra- sera part of the vehicle

will not be shown.

The reversing assistant makes it

easier for the driver to see to the rear

and assists when parking.

For vehicles with a factory-fitted towing device,

the distance range for the continuous audible

signal at the rear of the vehicle is somewhat

greater.

WARNING

Do not be distracted from traffic by the images

displayed on the screen.

The reversing assistant shows the area behind

the vehicle on the infotainment system's display.

The guidance lines facilitate the view to the rear

depending on the selected mode.

NOTICE

Reversing assistant modes

The automatic engagement of the OPS when

approaching an obstacle only works the first

time when driving below approx. 10-15 km/h

(6-9 mph).

● If the display was switched off, one of the

following operations must be performed:

– Switch the ignition off and on again.

– OR: drive at a higher speed than necessary

and then drive again at a lower speed.

– OR: move the selector lever to position P

Depending on the equipment, the following modes

are available:

– Mode 1: Reverse parking in reverse gear,

e.g. in a car park.

– Mode 2: Reverse parking in line, e.g. at the

edge of the track.

You can switch between the available modes

by pressing the function button on the

infotainment system display.

System limitations

The images of the reversing assistant on the

display are only two-dimensional. Due to the

lack of spatial depth, protruding objects or

cavities in the road, for example, are only visible

with difficulty or not at all.

It may take a few seconds for the acoustic

or optical signals to be emitted.

Under certain circumstances, the reversing

assistant does not detect objects such as bars,

fences, posts or thin trees that could damage
