Use the storage compartments only for small or

light objects.

Notes on brake assist systems

If you suspect a malfunction, please read and

observe the following instructions:

WARNING

Objects carried unsecured in the vehicle could

be thrown out of the passenger compartment in

the event of braking or a sudden manoeuvre.

This can result in serious injury and loss of

control of the vehicle.

– ESC and ASR can only function correctly if all

four wheels are fitted with the same type of

tyres. If the circumference of the tyres is not

the same on all wheels, the engine power

may be reduced unexpectedly.

● Do not carry animals or hard, sharp or

heavy objects in the open slides of the

vehicle, on the dashboard or on the cover

behind the rear seats, or in clothing or

bags in the passenger compartment.

– If the ABS malfunctions, the ESC, ASR and

EDS also cease to function.

– Operating noises may be heard during the

control processes of the systems described

above.

● Always keep the slides closed when driving.

WARNING

Objects in the driver's footwell can make it

difficult to operate the pedals. This can lead to

loss of control of the vehicle and increases the

risk of serious injury.

● If the brake system warning light comes

on together with the ABS warning light ,

the ABS may not work and the rear wheels

may lock relatively quickly when braking.

This can lead to loss of control of the

vehicle! If possible, slow down and drive

slowly and cautiously to the nearest

specialist workshop and have the brake

system checked. During this journey, avoid

braking and any sudden manoeuvres.

● If the ABS control light does not turn off or

comes on while driving, the ABS is not

working properly. The vehicle can only be

stopped with the normal brakes (without

ABS). In this case the protective function

of the ABS is not available. Contact a

● Before adjusting a seat, always make sure

that there is no burner in the area of the

moving parts of the seat.

A first-aid kit can be stored in this compartment.

● Before closing a slide, always make sure

that there is no lighter in the closing area.

Opening: Pull up the handle on the lid → fig.

182 and lower the lid.

● Never leave a cigarette lighter in a cigarette

lighter holder or on any other surface of

the vehicle as it may ignite due to the high

temperatures that can be reached on such

surfaces, especially in summer.

Closing: Lift the cover and press it towards the

front seat until it clicks into place.

WARNING

If the slide is left open, it can obstruct the

operation of the pedals. This could lead to

accidents and serious injuries.

NOTICE

● The holder must remain closed at all times

when the vehicle is in motion. Otherwise,

the cover and any objects that may fall out

of the holder could end up in the driver's

footwell and prevent the driver from

operating the pedals.

● The electric filaments of the steady rest can

irreparably damaged if they are rubbed

against objects.

● Do not store objects, food or medicines that

are sensitive to heat or cold in the passenger

compartment. Heat and cold could damage

them or render them unusable.

● Objects made of trans- parent materials left

in the vehicle, such as glasses, magnifying

glasses or transparent suction cups attached

to the windows, can concentrate sunlight and

cause damage to the vehicle.

There is a bottle holder in the lidless storage

compartments in the driver's and front

passenger doors and, if necessary, also in the

rear doors.

Incorrect use of drink holders can lead to

Use: Lower the central armrest.

When the beverage holder is no longer in use, lift up

the armrest again.

● Never place hot drinks in the drink holders.

In the event of braking or an accident while

driving, hot drinks placed in the drink

holders could spill and cause burns.

Ashtrays and lighter

● Make sure that bottles or other objects do

not fall into the driver's footwell while

driving and prevent the driver from

● Never place glasses, food or heavy objects

Improper use of ashtrays and lighters can lead

to fire, burns and other serious injuries.

● Never place paper or other objects in the

Closed bottles may explode in the vehicle due
