General Information
Note
If the vehicle receives a new lock set and a new identity, the
Steering Column Lock Actuator - N360- (electronic steering col‐
umn lock) can only be adapted once the Access/Start Authoriza‐
tion Control Module - J518- has learned the new identity.
Otherwise, the electronic steering column lock can no longer learn
if it is already adapted and it cannot be used. Refer to
⇒ “1.4 Lock Set, Replacement Procedure”, page 87 .
The anti-theft immobilizer system control module can depending
on the vehicle be integrated in the following systems:
♦ Instrument Cluster Control Module - J285-
♦ Comfort System Central Control Module - J393-
♦ Access/Start Authorization Control Module - J518-
♦ Vehicle Electrical System Control Module - J519-
Additionally depending on the vehicle the immobilizer contains
following control modules:
♦ Engine Control Module - J623- / Engine Control Module 2 -
J624-
♦ Transmission Control Module - J217-
♦ Electrical Drive Control Module - J841-
♦ Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module - J764-
♦ Data Bus on Board Diagnostic Interface - J533-
♦ Control Module for Emergency Call Module and Communica‐
tion Unit - J949-
– If the control module is replaced, select in the “Off-board Di‐
agnostic Information System Service” the “control module re‐
placing” function of the respective control module on the
Vehicle Diagnostic Tester .

♦ If the transponder is faulty, the entire ignition key or the trans‐
mitter must be replaced.
– Order a replacement key through the distributor or importer
with the transmitter with the vehicle-specific lock number using
the VIN.
