Vehicle equipment
This chapter describes all standard, country-spe‐
cific and special equipment available for the
model series. It may therefore describe equip‐
ment which is not installed in your vehicle, for ex‐
ample on account of the optional equipment se‐
lected or the country variant. This also applies to
safety-relevant functions and systems. Please
comply with the relevant laws and regulations
when using the corresponding functions and
systems.
Operating requirements
On the Control Display set a language that is also
supported by the voice control system, so that
the vehicle can identify spoken commands.

Saying voice commands
Principle
Activating the voice control
system
The voice control system enables most of the
functions shown in the Control Display to be op‐
erated by spoken commands. The system pro‐
vides spoken announcements to assist you with
input.
1.
Press the button on the steering
wheel.
2. Wait for the acoustic signal.
3. Say the command.
This symbol on the Control Display
shows that the voice control system is
active.
General
▷ Functions that can only be used when the ve‐
hicle is stationary can only be operated via
the voice control system to a limited extent.
It is possible that no further spoken commands
are available. In this case, switch to iDrive to op‐
erate the function.
▷ The system has a special microphone on the
driver's side.
Switching off the voice control
system
▷ ›...‹ indicates commands for the voice control
system in the Owner's Handbook.
▷ Commands and numbers should be spoken
fluently, with the usual emphasis and at a nor‐
mal volume and speed.
Press the button on the steering wheel
or say ›Cancel‹.
▷ Always say the commands in the language of
the voice control system.
Using the voice control system
on the smartphone
A smartphone connected to the vehicle can be
operated via voice control.
▷ When selecting the radio station, use the
customary pronunciation of the station name
as it is displayed on the Control Display.
