HILL START ASSIST
Operation
System which holds your vehicle tem-
porarily (approximately 2 seconds)
when starting on a gradient, the time it
takes to move your foot from the brake
pedal to the accelerator pedal.
This function is only active when:
-
-
-
the vehicle is completely stationary,
with your foot on the brake pedal,
in particular conditions on a
slope,
with the driver’s door closed.
On an ascending slope, with the
vehicle stationary, the vehicle is
held for a brief moment when you
release the brake pedal:
On a descending slope, with the
vehicle stationary and reverse
gear engaged, the vehicle is held
for a brief moment when you re-
lease the brake pedal.
The hill start assist function cannot
be deactivated.

provided you are in first gear or
neutral on a manual gearbox,
provided you are in A or M on an
electronic gearbox,
provided you are in D or M on an
automatic gearbox.

fers a choice between the comfort of
fully automatic operation or the driving
pleasure of manual gear changing.
Engaging reverse gear
Push the gear lever to the right
then rearwards.
Therefore, you have a choice of two
driving modes:
Only engage reverse gear when
the vehicle is stationary with the
engine at idle.
-
th e automatic mode for auto-
matic control of the gears by the
gearbox,
-
the sequential mode for manu-
al changing of the gears by the
driver.
Starting the vehicle
Mode selection
Check that the gear lever is in
neutral.
Do not touch the accelerator.
For Diesel engines: turn the
key to position M and wait until
the pre-heating warning lamp
switches off if it has come on.
Operate the starter, turning the
key until the engine starts (no
more than ten seconds).

when a door is opened, a sound
signal is heard if the selector is
not in position P,
always make sure that the se-
lector is in position P before
you leave your vehicle.
If the gearbox is in position P but
the position of the selector is differ-
ent, reposition the selector on P so
that you can start the vehicle.
Never press the brake and acelera-
tor pedals simultaneously. Braking
and acceleration should be done
only with the right foot. Pressing both
pedals simultaneously introduces a
risk of damage to the gearbox.

the position of the selector and
the actual position of the gear-

when you switch on the ignition
and press the brake pedal.
Moving off
Reverse gear
Only engage this position
when the vehicle is station-
ary. To prevent snatching,
do not accelerate too soon
after selection.
Otherwise, when the ignition is on or
the engine is running:
reposition the selector in position P,

tionary.
Operate the starter.
This position of the selector
is used to prevent the vehi-
cle from moving when you
are stationary.
When the engine is running,
place the selector on R, D or M
as required.
Check, in the instrument panel,
the position engaged.
If, while the vehicle is moving, po-
sition N is engaged inadvertently,
allow the engine to idle before en-
gaging position D or M.
To select position P, move the

The gearbox is then operating in
auto-adaptive mode, without requir-
ing any intervention on your part.
Automatic operation
Temporary manual operation
when in automatic mode
For certain manoeuvres (for exam-
ple overtaking), you can obtain maxi-
mum acceleration by pressing the
accelerator pedal down hard, which
then produces an automatic change
down to a lower gear.
When braking, the gearbox may
change down automatically in order
to provide effective engine braking.
If you lift your foot off the accelerator
abruptly, the gearbox will not change
up.
Move the selector to po-
sition D.
An action on the "+" or "-" paddles
allows you to exercise temporary
control over the changing of gears.
The request to change gear will be
taken into account. You will still be
in automatic mode. The warning
lamp D remains lit up in the instru-
ment panel.
This function enables you to antici-
pate certain situations such as the
approach of a bend or the need to
overtake another vehicle.
The gearbox constantly selects the
gear that is best suited to the follow-
ing parameters:
-
-
-
driving style,
road profile,
vehicle load.

For safety reasons, depending
on the engine speed, a change
up or down may be performed
automatically.
It is possible at any time to move
from position D (driving in auto-
matic mode) to position M (driving
in sequential mode) or vice versa.
Manual operation
The flashing of the warn-
ing lamp for the position
requested signals that this
position is not yet obtained.
Position of the selector for manual
gear changing.
Pull the " + " paddle to change up
a gear.
Pull the " - " paddle to change
down a gear.
Move the selector to po-
sition M.
If the warning lamp is on fixed, the
position is confirmed.
Display of a dash in the rev counter
indicates a malfunction. Consult a
CITROËN dealer.
Lighting of the service warning
lamp accompanied by a message
and an audible signal indicates an
operating fault. In this case:
-
If the vehicle stops or reduces
speed (for example when ap-
proaching a stop sign), the gear-
box changes down automatically
to first gear.
-
-
In sequential mode, it is not nec-
essary to release the accelerator
during gear changes.
A request to change gear is ac-
cepted only if the engine speed
permits it.
-
a marked snatching may be felt
when selecting R for reverse
gear,
-
-
the gearbox is locked in one
gear,
do not exceed a speed of
60 mph (approx. 100 km/h).
