Warnings, Cautions and Environmental Information -> Caution for Your Fiat 500 C 2 Door First Generation (2009-2015)

WARNINGS,
CAUTIONS
AND
ENVIRONMENTAL
INFORMATION
We recommend you carefully read the following important information. In an
emergency we recommend that you call the toll-free number found on the Warranty
nearest Fiat Dealership.
CAUTION
1. KEYS & CODE CARD • Violent impacts may damage the electronic components
inside the key. If this vehicle changes hands, the new owner must be
supplied with all keys and the CODE card.
2. AIR CONDITIONER • The air conditioning system uses R134a coolant, which will
not impact the environment if accidentally leaked. Avoid using R12 coolant,
which is not compatible with system components.
3. WINDSCREEN/REAR WIPER • Do not use the windscreen or rear wiper to clean
layers of snow or ice from the windscreen. Under these conditions, if
excessive strain is exerted on the windscreen wiper, the motor protector is
activated and inhibits wiper operation for a few seconds. If operation is
not subsequently restored, please contact your Fiat Dealership.
4. SUNROOF • If a storage shelf has been transversely mounted in the vehicle,
we recommend only using the sunroof in the spoiler position.
•Do not open the roof or soft top when covered with snow or ice, as it may
be damaged.
5. SOFT TOP • Do not place objects on the vehicles rear shelf that might damage
the soft top when it is opened.
•Loads may not be secured on the vehicle roof.
•Immediately remove bird excrement or vegetable resin from the soft top, as
these substances may severely damage the fabric due to their caustic
qualities.
•Do not use power washers to wash your soft top.
•When using steam or water jet cleaners, always maintain these devices at an
adequate distance from the vehicle and do not exceed a temperature of 60°C.
If you are too close or the device pressure is too high, this may damage the
top or cause leaks.
•When using a hose, the jet of water must not be directed at the edges of
the top or around the rear window, as leaks may also result.
•Never use alcohol, benzene, chemical substances, detergents, stain
removers, wax, solvents or "wash & shine" products on the top.
•To avoid stains and rings, do not leave soap on the top for an extended
period.
•Rinse immediately, and repeat this operation if necessary. If you choose to
waterproof the soft top, strictly follow the instructions on the package of
the waterproofing product you have selected in order to obtain optimal
results.
•The rubber seals on the soft top must be cleaned exclusively with water. If
you notice that this trim is dry or is sticking, apply talcum powder or
products specifically for rubber trim (silicone spray).

WARNINGS,
CAUTION (Continued)
6. EOBD SYSTEM • If, when you turn the key when starting to the MAR position
and the indicator does not come on or, if when driving, it is
continuously lit or is flashing and a message appears on the reconfigurable
multifunctional display (for versions/markets where this is available),
please contact your Fiat Dealership as soon as possible. Operation of the
indicator
may be verified by traffic control officers using the
appropriate equipment. Please obey the legislation in force in the country
in which you are driving.
7. CAR STEREO SYSTEM • If you wish to install a car audio system after
purchasing your vehicle, please contact your Fiat Dealership, which will
suggest the most appropriate devices for your vehicle to prolong battery
life. Excessive non-running consumption damages the battery and may cause a
warranty claim to be refused.
8. REFUELING YOUR DIESEL ENGINE VEHICLE • Use only diesel fuels for automobiles
to fuel diesel vehicles, in compliance with the EN590 European standard.
The use of other products or mixtures may irreparably damage the engine and,
consequently, cause a warranty claim to be refused. If you accidentally
refuel with another type of fuel, do not start the engine, and drain the
fuel tank. If the engine has been run for even an extremely limited amount
of time, you must not only drain the fuel tank, but the rest of the supply
circuit as well.
9. SAFETY BELTS – PRETENSIONERS • Operations that involve impacts, vibration or
localised heating (above 100°C for a period exceeding 6 hours) in the area
in which the pretensioner is located may damage or activate this device;
these conditions do not include vibration caused by rough road surfaces, or
accidental driving over small obstacles or sidewalks etc. Please contact
your Fiat Dealership if necessary.
10. STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE • We recommend not soliciting maximum
performance from your engine at the very outset (e.g., excessive
acceleration, driving extensive distances at top speeds, excessively strong
braking etc.). When the engine has been turned off, do not leave the key in
the MAR position, to avoid unnecessary electrical consumption that may
discharge the battery.
•For diesel versions,
if the indicator flashes for 60 seconds after
starting or during an extended cranking period, this indicates a problem in
the glow plug pre-heating system. If the engine starts, you may use the
vehicle, but should contact your Fiat Dealership as soon as possible.
Punching the gas pedal before turning off the engine is to be avoided: it
unnecessarily wastes fuel and may damage turbo compressor engines.
• Strictly avoid using a quick battery charger for emergency starts. The
vehicle's electronic systems and starter and engine supply control units
could be damaged.
11. USING THE GEARBOX AND THE AUTOMATIC GEARBOX • Do not drive with your hand on
the gear shift lever, as the pressure exerted on the lever, though not
excessive, may cause the internal gearbox components to wear prematurely.
For a faulty or damaged gearbox, please contact your Fiat Dealership as soon
as possible to have your gearbox checked.

ENVIRONMENTAL
INFORMATION
CAUTION (Continued)
12. SNOW CHAINS • When chains are fitted, maintain a moderate speed; do not
exceed 50 km/h. Avoid potholes, do not drive over steps or sidewalks and do
not drive long distances over roads without snow, to avoid damaging both
your vehicle and the road surface.
13. POWER OUTLET • Accessories with power ratings that do not exceed 180 W (and
maximum 15 A) may be connected to the outlet.
14. DIESEL FILTER • Water in the supply circuit may cause severe damage to the
injection system and irregular engine performance. If the indicator
is lit (on some vehicle versions, the indicator
is lit and a message
is displayed), please contact your Fiat Dealership as soon as possible to
have the supply circuit drained. If this problem is indicated immediately
after refueling, water may have entered the fuel tank. In this case,
immediately turn off the engine and contact your Fiat Dealership.
15. BULBS AND FUSES • Only touch the metal parts when handling halogen bulbs. If
the transparent bulb comes into contact with your fingers, the intensity of
the light emitted will be reduced and the duration of the bulb may be
impacted. In case of accidental contact, wipe the bulb with a cloth
moistened with alcohol and let the bulb dry.
•We recommend having your Fiat Dealership replace the bulbs, when possible.
The correct operation and orientation of outside lights are essential to
ensure driving safety and to avoid legal sanctions.
•If you must wash the engine compartment, be careful not to spray jets of
water directly on the engine bay control unit.
16. SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE (Petrol versions) If you use your vehicle mainly for
city driving or for less than 10,000 km per year, the engine oil and filter
must be replaced every 12 months.
(Diesel versions) If you use your vehicle mainly for city driving, the
engine oil and filter must be replaced every 12 months.
17. CHECKING FLUIDS IMPORTANT: when topping up fluids, make sure that you don't
confuse the types of liquids used. The fluids are incompatible with each
other and could severely damage your vehicle.
•Do not add oil with characteristics that are different from those of the
oil currently in the engine. The cooling system uses a protective
anti-freeze fluid.
18. PARAFLUUP • Use the same type of fluid currently in the cooling system when
you top up fluid levels. PARAFLUUP fluid may not be mixed with any other
type of fluid. If this occurs, do not start the engine and contact your Fiat
Dealership immediately.
•Avoid allowing brake fluid, which is extremely corrosive, to come into
contact with painted areas of the body. If this occurs, immediately wash the
affected areas with water.
19. REPLACING THE BATTERY Incorrect fitting of electric and electronic accessories
may seriously damage your vehicle. After purchasing your vehicle, if you wish to
install any accessories (car alarm, car phone etc.), please contact your Fiat
Dealership, which will suggest the most appropriate devices for your vehicle ,
and will, most importantly, recommend installing a higher-capacity battery.
