Warnings, Cautions and Environmental Information -> Important Information for Personal Safety for Your Fiat 500 C 2 Door First Generation (2009-2015)

INFORMATION
ENVIRONMENTAL
AND
CAUTIONS
WARNINGS,
We recommend you carefully read the following important information. In an
emergency we recommend that you call the toll-free number found on the Warranty
nearest Fiat Dealership.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PERSONAL SAFETY
1. IGNITION • Never remove the key from the ignition while the vehicle is in
motion. The steering wheel will lock as soon as it is turned. This holds
true for vehicles being towed as well.
•Aftermarket operations that involve tampering with the steering system or
steering column are strictly prohibited (e.g., car alarm installation) as
they could not only impact system performance, but also cause a warranty
claim to be refused. These operations could also cause serious safety
problems, as well as causing the vehicle to cease to comply with current
regulations.
2. ADJUSTMENT • Any and all adjustments to seats, headrests, steering-wheel or
rear-view mirrors must be performed exclusively with the vehicle
stationary and the engine off.
3. SEATS • After releasing the adjusting lever, always ensure that the seat
has locked into place by attempting to slide it forward and backward. If
the seat is not locked into place, it may unexpectedly slide and cause the
driver to lose control of the vehicle.
•Headrests must be adjusted so that the seat occupant’s head, rather than
neck, rests against the cushion. Only when they are adjusted in this
manner can they serve their intended purpose. To take best advantage of
the protection provided by the headrest, adjust the seat back so that you
are sitting up straight and your head is as close to the headrest as
possible.
4. REAR-VIEW MIRRORS • Because the rear-view mirrors are curved, they slightly
alter the driver’s distance perception. When driving, these mirrors must
always be in the “open” position.
5. DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (D.R.L.) • Daytime running lights are an alternative
to low beam headlights during daytime driving when use of lights is
mandatory, or when their use is allowed but not mandatory.
•Daytime running lights cannot be used in place of low beam headlights
when driving through tunnels or at night. The use of daytime running
lights is governed by the highway code for the country in which you are
driving. Please comply with the laws stipulated in the relevant code for
your country.
6. FUEL BLOCK SYSTEM • After an impact, if you smell petrol or notice leaks
from the fuel supply system, do not attempt to re-start the vehicle in
order to avoid fire.

7. INTERIOR EQUIPMENT • The cigar lighter plug may reach extremely high
temperatures. Handle it with caution and do not allow it to be used by
children to avoid the risk of fire or burns. Always check that the cigar
lighter plug has been released.
•Do not travel with the glove compartments open: they may injure your
passenger in case of an accident.
8. SUNROOF – SOFT TOP – ELECTRIC WINDOWS • When you leave the vehicle, always
remove the key from the ignition to avoid the sunroof or soft top and/or
power windows from being inadvertently activated, as this could present a
danger for the passengers remaining in the vehicle. Improper use of the
sunroof, soft top and/or power windows may also be dangerous for you and
your passengers. Before and during activation of these devices, always
check to make sure your passengers will not be injured either directly by
the moving sunroof or soft top and/or power windows or by personal items
moved or impacted by the devices.
9. SOFT TOP • Keep hands away from the top lever system when opening or
closing the top, or when the top is stopped but not fully opened or
closed. This may damage the top or cause injury. - Keep children away from
the area in which the top is folding during opening or closing operations.
10. DOORS • Before opening any doors, make sure that it is safe to do so. Only
open doors when the vehicle is stopped.
11. BOOT • Never exceed the maximum allowed loads when using the boot. See the
chapter entitled "Technical Specifications" in the Owner’s Manual. Also
make sure that the objects you place in the boot have been properly
secured, to avoid them from being thrown forward consequent to sudden
braking and injuring your passengers.
•Do not drive with the tailgate open as exhaust fumes may enter the
vehicle.
•If you are travelling in an area with limited opportunities for vehicle
refueling and you wish to bring petrol with you in a petrol can, you must
do so in compliance with current regulations and using an approved and
appropriately secured can. However, by doing so, you increase the risk of
fire in case of an accident with your vehicle.
•Be careful not to hit object on the storage shelf when you open the boot
tailgate.

12. BONNET • Incorrectly inserting the support rod in the slot on the bonnet
may cause the bonnet to slam shut. Perform this operation only when the
vehicle is stationary.
•Before opening the bonnet, make sure that windscreen wiper arm is not
raised, but is rather positioned against the windscreen.
•Be careful working inside engine compartment when the engine is hot to
avoid burning yourself.
•Do not place your hands near the engine fan as it may be activated even
when the switch is disabled. Wait until the engine has cooled.
•Be very careful not to allow scarves, neckties and other loose articles
of clothing from touching, even accidentally, any moving parts. This may
cause the clothing to be pulled into the part, resulting in serious injury
to the wearer. For safety reasons, the bonnet must always be securely
closed when the vehicle is in motion. Therefore, always check that the
bonnet has been correctly closed and that the lock has been engaged. If
you notice when driving that the bonnet has not been properly locked, stop
immediately and close the bonnet correctly.
13. LUGGAGE / SKI RACK • The size of the loads you transport must strictly
comply with currently applicable regulations.
•After travelling for a few kilometers, check to ensure that the mounting
screws on the brackets are secure.
14. ABS SYSTEM – ESP SYSTEM • When the ABS system is activated and the brake
pedal pulses, do not release the pressure of your foot on the pedal. By
maintaining the pedal fully depressed, you will stop your vehicle in the
shortest distance possible, according to road conditions.
•If the ABS system is activated, this indicates that the traction of the
tires on the road is nearing its limit. You must slow down to a speed
compatible with the available wheel traction. The ABS system optimizes
traction, but cannot increase it. Consequently, use caution when driving
on slippery roads and do not take any unnecessary risks.
•In case the warning lamp
illuminates on the instrument panel,
together with a message on the multifunctional display (for versions/
markets, where available), stop the car immediately and contact your Fiat
Service Center. Any loss of fluid will affect the brake system
functionality, both conventional and ant-lock wheels.
•ESP performance features must not induce the driver to take unnecessary
or unfounded risks. Driving style must always be adapted to road
conditions, visibility and traffic. The driver is, in any case,
responsible for safe driving.
•The ESP functions even when the spare tire is being used. Please
remember that the spare tire is smaller than a standard tire and
consequently, provides less traction compared to the vehicle’s other
tires.

(14. Continued)
•For the ESP and ASR systems to function correctly, all four tires must,
above all, be the type, brand and size recommended by the automobile
manufacturer, be all the same brand and type, and must be in excellent
condition.
15. DUALDRIVE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM • Aftermarket operations that
involve tampering with the steering system or steering column are strictly
prohibited (e.g., car alarm installation) as they could not only impact
system performance, but also cause a warranty claim to be refused. These
operations could also cause serious safety problems, as well as causing
the vehicle to cease to comply with current regulations.
•Before performing any maintenance operations, always turn off the engine
and remove the key from the ignition to lock the steering column,
especially when the vehicle’s wheels are not touching the ground. If this
is not possible (the key must be in the MAR position or the engine must be
running), remove the main protective fuse for the electric steering power
system.
16. PARKING SENSORS • The driver is always responsible for making parking and
other dangerous maneuvers. When making these manoeuvres, always make sure
that no people (especially children) or animals are present in your
maneuvering space. The parking sensors serve to assist the driver, but
must never allow his or her attention to lapse during potentially
dangerous manoeuvres, even those executed at low speeds.
17. START & STOP SYSTEM • Please visit your Fiat Dealership if you wish to
replace your battery. The replacement battery should be of the same type
(HEAVY DUTY) and should have the same characteristics.
•Before opening the hood, make sure that the vehicle has been turned off
and that the key is in the STOP position. Please follow the instructions
on the decal near the front crossmember. We recommend that you remove the
key from the ignition if other people remain in the vehicle. Only leave
the vehicle after the key has been removed from the ignition or after
having turned it to the STOP position. When refueling, make sure that the
vehicle has been turned off and that the key is in the STOP position.
•In case of automatic shutdown on vehicles equipped with a Dualogic
gearbox, it is recommended to restart the engine by moving the shifter
into the +/- position without releasing the brake pedal. For equipped with
Hill-holder, and stopped on a grade, you do not have automatic shutdown.
•If you wish to run the air conditioning system, you may deactivate the
Start system to allow continuous operation of the air conditioning system.

18. REFUELING • Keep open flames or lit cigarettes away from the fuel inlet
port to avoid the risk of fire. Also, keep your face away from this fuel
inlet to avoid inhaling harmful fumes.
•Under normal operating conditions, the catalytic converter becomes quite
hot. Therefore, do not park your vehicle on flammable materials. (grass,
dry leaves, pine needles etc.) to avoid the risk of fire.
19. SAFETY BELTS – PRETENSIONERS • Do not press the seat belt release button
while the vehicle is moving.
•Remember that after a violent impact, front-seat passengers who are not
wearing their seat belts not only expose themselves to significant risk
for injury, but also represent a danger to passengers occupying the rear
seats.
•The pretensioner may be used only once. After it has been activated,
please contact your Fiat Dealership to have it replaced. For the device
expiration date, see the plate on the panel near the door. Please contact
your Fiat Dealership as this date approaches to have the device replaced.
•For maximum protection, keep the seat back in an upright position, rest
your back against the seat back and keep the safety belt snugly fastened
against your chest and hips. Always fasten the safety belts for both the
front and rear seats.
•Travelling without using safety belts significantly increases your risk
for serious injury or death in the event of an accident.
•Removing or otherwise tampering with safety belt and pretensioner
components is strictly prohibited. Any operations on these components must
be performed by qualified and authorised technicians. Always contact your
Fiat Dealership for any such operations. If the belt has been sharply
pulled, for example, as the result of an accident, the safety belt, as
well as the anchoring devices, the anchoring device mounting screws and
the pretensioner must all be replaced. Even if the belt does not present
any exterior signs of wear or damage, it may have lost its restraining
properties.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PERSONAL SAFETY (Continued)
20. CARRYING CHILDREN SAFELY - SERIOUS DANGER: when the passenger-side front
airbag is activated, do not install a backward-facing car seat in the
front seat. If the airbag is deployed in the event of an accident, the
child carried in the car seat risks serious injury or death. We recommend
always transporting children in the rear seat, as this position is most
protected during impact. However, children's car seats should never be
installed in a front seat with a passenger-side airbag. If the airbag is
deployed, the child in the car seat could be killed, regardless of the
intensity of the impact. If necessary, children may be carried in car
seats installed in the front seat of the vehicles that feature a
deactivation option for the passenger-side frontal airbag. In this case,
you must ensure that the appropriate indicator on the instrument panel
confirms that the airbag has been deactivated (see ""Passenger-side front
airbag" "in the "front airbags"" section "of the Owner's Manual). The
passenger seat must also be slid back as far as possible in order to avoid
the car seat from coming into contact with the dashboard.
•Install the car seat according to the instructions, which are mandatorily
included with this type of restraint system.
•Car seats for weight groups 0 and 1 feature an anchor in front of the
vehicle safety belts as well as its own belts to restrain the child. Due
to the weight of the car seat, incorrect installation may be dangerous
(e.g., if attached using the vehicle's safety belts with a cushion placed
between the two). Please strictly follow the installation instructions
provided.
•If passenger-side airbag is present, do not install a car seat in the
front passenger seat, as children should never ride in the front seat.
21. ISOFIX CHILD RESTRAINT ASSEMBLY • Only attempt to install the car seat when
the vehicle is stationary. The car seat has been correctly attached to the
metal rings when a "click" is heard after fastening. Please refer to
instruction manual for installing, removing and positioning the car seat
that is obligatory provided by the car seat manufacturer.

WARNINGS,
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PERSONAL SAFETY (Continued)
22. AIRBAGS • Do not affix stickers or other objects to the steering wheel, on
the dashboard, in the area in which the passenger-side airbag is located,
on the side seat cover toward the car roof or on the seats. Do not place
objects on the passenger side of the dashboard (e.g., mobile phones) as
they could interfere with correct passenger-side airbag deployment and, in
addition, seriously injure the occupants of the vehicle.
SERIOUS DANGER: when the passenger-side airbag is activated, do not
install a backward-facing cradle car seat in the front seat. If the airbag
is deployed in the event of an accident, the child carried in the car seat
risks serious injury or death. When a child must be carried in a car seat
installed in the front seat, always deactivate the passenger-side airbag.
The passenger seat must also be slid back as far as possible in order to
avoid the car seat from coming into contact with the dashboard. Though not
required by law, we recommend that you reactivate this airbag as soon as
the child no longer needs to be transported in the vehicle's front seat.
•Do not rest you head, arms or elbows on the door, windowsill, and in the
area in which the windowbag is located to avoid possible injury during
airbag deployment.
•Never extend your head, arms or elbows out the window.
•If the indicator
does not come on when the key is turned to the MAR
position or if it remains lit while driving, there may be a problem with
the airbag restraint system. In this case, the airbags or pretensioners
may not be activated in the event of an accident or, in a more limited
number of cases, may be activated when not necessary. Contact your Fiat
Dealership immediately to have this system checked.
•Do not use seatcovers on front seats featuring side airbags.
•Do not travel with objects in your lap, in front of your chest or held in
your mouth (e.g., pipe, pencil etc.). In the event of an accident, when
the airbags is deployed you may be seriously injured.
•Always drive with both hands on the steering wheel so that, if the
airbags must be deployed, they may do so freely. Do not drive bent over
the steering wheel, but rather sit upright with your back firmly resting
against the seat back.
•If your vehicle has been subject to theft, attempted theft, vandalism, or
flooding, see your Fiat Dealership to have the airbag system inspected.
•The airbags may also be deployed when the vehicle is not moving, if the
key is in the ignition and turned to MAR or when the engine is off, if the
vehicle is hit by another moving vehicle. Therefore, even when the vehicle
is not moving, children should not be carried in the front seat. Note that
if the key is in the ignition and in the STOP position and no safety
devices (airbags or pretensioners) are activated upon impact, failure of
these devices to be activated must not be considered a system malfunction.
•When you turn the key in the ignition to the MAR position,
the indicator comes on and flashes for a few seconds. This indicates
that the passenger-side airbag will be deployed in the event of an
accident. The indicator light should then switch off.

AND
ENVIRONMENTAL
INFORMATION
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PERSONAL SAFETY (Continued)
(22. Continued)
•Do not wash the seats using pressurized jets of water or stems (by hand or
at automatic car washes).
•The front airbag is designed to be deployed for impacts of a greater
intensity than for the pretensioners. For impacts whose intensity falls
between the two levels, normally, only the pretensioners will be activated.
•Do not affix rigid objects to the garment hooks or support handles.
•Airbags are not a replacement for, but rather complementary to safety
belts. Additionally, because front airbags are not deployed for low-speed
crashes, side collisions, rear and collisions or rollovers, in these cases,
vehicle occupants are protected only by their safety belts, which must
always be fastened.
23. STARTING THE ENGINE • Running the engine in closed spaces is dangerous. The
engine takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and
other toxic gases.
•Power steering and the power braking system are not activated until the
engine has been started. Significantly greater force must be exerted on
the brake pedal and on the steering wheel to operate them.
•For vehicles featuring a Dualogic gearbox, if the engine is not started
with a gear engaged, a warning is sounded to notify the driver of the
potential danger due to the gear being automatically put into neutral.
•Starting the vehicle using the backup battery must be preformed by
trained technicians, as incorrect operations may cause high-intensity
electrical shocks. In addition, the fluid contained in the battery is
caustic and corrosive. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Keep open flames
and lit cigarettes away from the battery and do not use objects that might
create sparks.
24. HAND BRAKE • Your vehicle should be securely held after a few clicks of the
brake lever. If this is not the case, please visit your Fiat Dealership to
have the brake adjusted.
25. USING THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION • To correctly change gear, the clutch pedal
must be fully depressed. Therefore, the floor area underneath the clutch
pedal must not be obstructed in any way. Ensure that the floor mat is
always laid flat and does not interfere with use of the pedals.
26. TOW HITCH • The ABS system that this vehicle features does not control the
towing braking system. You must therefore be particularly careful when
towing on slippery roads.
•Do not, under any circumstances, modify the vehicle's braking system to
control the towing breaking system. The towing breaking system must be
completely independent of the vehicle's hydraulic system.
27. SNOW TIRES • The maximum allowable speed for "Q" snow tires must not exceed
160 km/h, and must not violate the currently applicable highway code.

28. WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES • If the warning light
comes on during
driving (together with a message that appears on the display for some
versions), stop immediately and contact your Fiat Dealership.
•A problem with the indicator
light flashing for over 4 seconds
front airbag deactivated.
•The warning light
light . This condition is indicated by the warning light flashing
intermittently, even after the 4 seconds it is usually lit. In this
case, the warning light may not indicates a possible problem with the
(light off) is indicated by the warning
, which means that the passenger-side
also indicates possible problems with the indicator
airbag restraint system. Contact your Fiat Dealership immediately to have
this system checked.
•If the warning light
comes on during driving (together with a message
that appears on the display for some versions), stop immediately and
contact your Fiat Dealership.
•When the warning light
is flashing, the engine oil must be changed as
soon as possible, and never more than 500 Km after the first time the
warning light comes on. Failure to follow the abovementioned instructions
may seriously damage the engine and may cause a warranty claim to be
refused. Remember that this warning light may come on regardless of the
quantity of oil in the engine. Therefore, if this light is flashing, this
by no means indicates that you should add more oil to the reservoir.
•Vehicle travel speed should always be adapted to the traffic and weather
conditions, and must always comply with traffic regulations. You may turn
the engine when the DPF indicator is lit. However, repeated interruption
of the regeneration process may prematurely deteriorate the engine oil.
For this reason, we recommend that you wait until the indicator turns off
and follow the instructions provided above before turning off the engine.
Do not complete the DPF regeneration process when the vehicle is stopped.
29. CHANGING A TIRE • The spare tire provided (for versions/markets where this
is available) is specific to this vehicle; do not use it on other models,
and do not use other spare tires from other vehicles on this vehicle.
•The spare tire must only be used in the event of an emergency. It must be
used for the minimum distance required and at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
The spare tire features an orange label that summarises warnings and
limitations for using the tire.
•This label must not be removed or covered. Do not fit a hubcap on the
spare tire under any circumstances. The label provides the following
warnings in four languages: WARNING! For temporary use only! 80 km/h max!
Replace with a standard tire as soon as possible. Do not cover this label.

AND
ENVIRONMENTAL
INFORMATION
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PERSONAL SAFETY (Continued)
(29. Continued)
•Replacing the type of wheels used (alloy rims rather than steel rims)
involves replacing all mounting bolts with appropriately-sized bolts.
•Indicate that your vehicle is stopped using currently applicable measures:
hazard lights, reflective triangle etc. The vehicle's occupants should exit
the vehicle, especially if it has been heavily loaded, and should wait in an
area safe from traffic until the tire has been replaced. On hills or uneven
roads, use chocks or appropriate objects to block the wheels of the vehicle.
•The vehicle's driving characteristics will be modified with the spare tire
fitted. Avoid sudden starting or stopping, sharp or fast turns. The spare
tire may be used for a distance of 3000 km, after which, it must be replaced
with another tire of the same type. Never install a standard tire on a rim
that is designed for use with a spare tire. Have the tire repaired and
refitted as soon as possible. Do not use more than one spare tire on the
vehicle at a given time. Do not grease the bolt threads before fitting. The
bolts may come loose.
•The jack provided is only intended to be used for replacing tires on the
vehicle with which it is supplied, or on same-model vehicles. It must not be
used, for example, to jack other vehicle models. Never use it for repair
operations under the vehicle. Incorrectly positioning the jack may cause the
vehicle to fall. Do not use the jack to lift loads heavier than that
indicated on the label affixed to the jack. Snow chains may not be fitted on
the spare tire. If a front wheel (drive wheel) has been punctured and you
must use the snow chains, remove a standard wheel from the rear axle and
replace the damaged wheel with this wheel. By thus having two standard front
wheels, you may fit the snow chains on the front wheels in the emergency
situation.
•Incorrectly fitting the hubcap may cause it to fall off when the vehicle is
in motion. Never tamper with the inflating valve. Do not insert any type of
utensil between the wheel rim and the tire. Regularly check the tire
pressures for the standard wheels and the spare tire, and compare them to
the values provided in the chapter entitled "Technical Specifications" in
the Owner's Manual.
30. FIX & GO QUICK TIRE REPAIR KIT • Give the instructions brochure to the
technicians who will be handling the tire that was repaired using the
quick repair kit.
•Punctures on the sides of the tire may not be repaired. Do not attempt to
use the quick repair kit if the tire was damaged as a result of being used
when underinflated.
•If the wheel rim has been damaged (bent so as to cause air to leak), the
wheel may not be repaired. Do not remove any foreign bodies (screws or
nails) that have penetrated the tire. Do not use the compressor for more
than 20 consecutive minutes as it may overheat. Use of the quick repair
kit is not appropriate for performing lasting repairs. Consequently, tires
repaired using the kit must only be used temporarily.
•The can provided contains glycol. It also contains latex and may cause an
allergic reaction. Do not ingest. Eye irritant. Avoid inhalation and
contact. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. If contact occurs,
immediately rinse thoroughly with water. If ingested, do not induce

vomiting. Rinse out your mouth, drink large quantities of water and seek
immediate medical attention. Keep out of the reach of children. The product
must never be used by persons with asthma. Do not inhale the fumes released
during fitting or filling operations. If an allergic reaction occurs, seek
immediate medical attention. Store the canister in the appropriate storage
area, away from heat sources. The sealing fluid has an expiration date.
•Use the pair of protective gloves provided in the quick tire repair kit.
Affix the label indicating the 80 km/h speed limit in a place that is
clearly visible to the driver. This will indicate that the tire has been
treated using the quick tire repair kit. Drive carefully, especially in
curves. Do not exceed 80 km/h. Avoid sudden acceleration or braking.
•If pressure has dropped to below 1.8 bar, do not continue to drive: the Fix
& Go automatic quick tire repair kit cannot provide adequate traction, as
the tire is too damaged. Always contact your Fiat Dealership for any such
operations.
•Always indicate that the tire was repaired using the Fix & Go quick tire
repair kit. Give the instructions brochure to the technicians who will be
handling the tire that was repaired using the quick repair kit.
31. REPLACING BULBS • Modifying or repairing the electrical system incorrectly
or without considering system technical specifications may cause incorrect
operation and present a risk of fire.
•Halogen bulbs contain pressurised gas. Glass shards may be projected if a
bulb breaks.
•Due to the high supply voltage, Xenon gas-discharge bulbs must only be
replaced by a trained technician: Danger! Always contact your Fiat
Dealership to perform this type of operation.
32. REPLACING FUSES • If a fuse blows, contact your Fiat Dealership.
•Never replace a blown fuse with metal wiring or other materials.
• Never replace a fuse with another fuse with higher amperage under any
circumstances. RISK OF FIRE.
•Please contact your Fiat Dealership if a general circuit breaker trips
(MEGA-FUSE, MIDI-FUSE, MAXI-FUSE).
•Before replacing a fuse, make sure that you have removed the key from the
ignition and have turned off and/or deactivated all consumers.
•If a circuit breaker for the safety system (airbag system, breaking
system), power system (engine system, transmission system) or drive system
trips, please contact your Fiat Dealership.

33. RECHARGING THE BATTERY • The fluid contained in the battery is caustic and
corrosive. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. The battery must be recharged
in a well-ventilated area and away from open flames and objects that might
create sparks, in order to avoid explosion or fire.
•Do not attempt to recharge a frozen battery. The battery must first be
defrosted, otherwise it may explode. If the battery has frozen, it must be
inspected by a specialised technician before being recharged to ensure
that its internal components have not been damaged and that the battery
housing is not cracked, as this could lead to caustic and corrosive
battery acid being leaked.
34. TOWING THE VEHICLE • Before towing the vehicle, turn the key to the MAR
position, and subsequently to the STOP position, but do not remove it.
Removing the key automatically locks the electric power steering system,
and the wheel may not be turned.
•Remember that the power braking system and the electric power steering
system are not available during towing operations. Significantly greater
force must be exerted on the brake pedal and on the steering wheel to
operate them. Do not use flexible cables when towing and avoid jerky
movements. During towing, make sure that the trailer hitch does not damage
any components it is touching. When towing the vehicle, you must comply
with all specific traffic regulations and adopt an appropriate driving
behaviour.
•Do not start the engine while towing the vehicle.
35. MAINTENANCE – CHECKING FLUID LEVELS • Never smoke when performing
operations in the engine compartment. Flammable gases and fumes may be
present and risk igniting.
•Be very careful when working inside engine compartment when the engine is
hot to avoid burning yourself. Remember that when the engine is hot, the
fan may be activated. Risk for injury. Be careful when wearing scarves,
neckties and other loose articles of clothing as they may be pulling into
moving parts.
•The cooling system is pressurized. Only replace the plug with an original
replacement part. Otherwise, system efficiency may be impacted. Do not
remove the tank cap when the engine is hot to avoid burning yourself.
•Do not travel with the windscreen washer fluid reservoir empty as the
windscreen wipers are essential to improving visibility.
•Some commercial washer fluid additives are flammable. The engine
compartment contains hot components. A fire may be set off if these fluids
come into contact with hot parts.
•Brake fluid is poisonous and highly corrosive. If contact accidentally
occurs, immediately wash the affected areas with water and a neutral
detergent, and then rinse thoroughly with water. If ingested, seek
immediate medical attention.

INFORMATION
ENVIRONMENTAL
AND
CAUTIONS
WARNINGS,
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PERSONAL SAFETY (Continued)
(35. Continued)
•The symbol , on the brake fluid container indicates if a brake fluid is
synthetic or mineral-based. Using mineral-based brake fluid may irreparably
damage the rubber seals in the braking system. In addition, the fluid
contained in the battery is caustic and corrosive. Avoid contact with skin
and eyes. Keep open flames away from the battery and do not use objects that
might create sparks. Risk of explosion and fire. Using the battery with
insufficient battery fluid may irreparably damage the battery and may cause
an explosion.
•If the vehicle will be unused for an extended period of time in extremely
cold weather conditions, remove the battery and store it is a heated area to
avoid it freezing.
•Always wear appropriate goggles when working on or near the battery.
36. WHEELS AND TIRES • Remember that the traction provided by your tires also
depends on them being inflated to the correct pressure.
•If tire pressure is too low, the tire may overheat and be severely
damaged as a result.
•Do not switch tires from the right-hand side of the vehicle to the
left-hand side, and vice versa.
•Do not re-coat alloy wheel rims, as this operation uses temperatures
above 150°C. The mechanical characteristics of the wheels may be impacted.
•If after-sale tires with rim protectors are used and the car has integral
caps fixed (by springs) to the sheet wheel, DO NOT fit wheel caps. The use
of unsuitable tires and wheel caps could cause a sudden pressure loss of
the tire.
37. MAINTENANCE – WINDSCREEN WIPERS • Driving with worn windscreen wiper blades
may be exceedingly dangerous, as visibility in poor weather conditions may
be reduced.
38. MAINTENANCE – VEHICLE INTERIOR • Never use flammable products such as
petroleum ether or rectified benzene to clean the vehicle interior. The
electrostatic charge created when rubbing these products during cleaning
operations could start a fire.
•Do not store aerosol cans in the vehicle, as they represent a risk for
explosion. Aerosol cans must not be exposed to temperatures above 50°C.
Temperatures may greatly exceed this value inside a closed vehicle exposed
to direct sunlight.
39. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS – SUPPLY SYSTEM • Modifying or repairing the
supply system incorrectly or without considering system technical
specifications may cause incorrect operation and present a risk of fire.
