BODYWORK
WARNING
PRESERVING THE
BODYWORK
75) Keep your speed down when snow
chains are fitted; do not exceed 50 km/h.
Avoid potholes, steps and pavements
and avoid driving for long distances on
roads not covered with snow to prevent
damaging the vehicle and the road
surface.
Paintwork
WARNING
76)
7)
173) Remember that the vehicle's road
holding depends on correct tyre pressures.
Touch up abrasions and scratches
immediately to prevent the formation of
rust.
174) If the pressure is too low, the tyre will
overheat and could be seriously damaged.
Maintenance of paintwork consists of
washing the vehicle: the frequency
depends on the conditions and
environment in which the vehicle is
used. For example, it is advisable to
wash the vehicle more often in areas
with high levels of atmospheric pollution
or salted roads.
175) Avoid switching one-way tyres from
the right side of the vehicle to the left
side and vice versa. When the vehicle is
provided with this type of tyres, they can
only be switched from the front axle to the
rear axle and vice versa, keeping them
on the same side of the vehicle.
176) Do not repaint alloy wheels that
require the use of temperatures of above
150°C because the mechanical
characteristics of the wheels can be
compromised.
Some parts of the vehicle may be
covered with a matt paint which, in
order to be maintained intact, requires
special care: see the instructions in
the warning at the end of this
177) The rotation methods specified in the
text should NOT be implemented when
using one-way tyres. When using this type
of tyres, they can only be switched from
the front axle to the rear axle and vice
versa, keeping them on the same side of
the vehicle.
paragraph
77).
To correctly wash the vehicle, follow
these instructions:
if the vehicle is washed remove the
aerial from the roof;
178) Travelling with partially or completely
flat tyres can cause safety problems and
irreparable damages to the tyre.
180
if high pressure jets or cleaners are
used to wash the vehicle, keep a
distance of at least 40 cm from the
bodywork to avoid damage or
alteration. Build up of water could
cause damage to the vehicle in the long
term;
Bird droppings must be washed off
immediately and thoroughly as the acid
they contain is particularly aggressive.
Engine compartment
At the end of every winter, wash the
engine compartment thoroughly, taking
care not to aim the jet of water directly
at the electronic control units or at
the windscreen/rear window wiper
motors. Have this operation performed
at a specialised workshop.
Windows
Use specific detergents and clean
cloths to prevent scratching or altering
the transparency.
wash the bodywork using a low
pressure jet of water if possible;
IMPORTANT Wipe the rear window
inside gently with a cloth following the
direction of the filaments to avoid
damaging the heating device.
IMPORTANT The washing should take
place with the engine cold and the
ignition device in the STOP position.
After the washing operation, make sure
that the various protections (e.g. rubber
caps and guards) have not been
removed or damaged.
wipe a sponge with a slightly soapy
solution over the bodywork, frequently
rinsing the sponge;
rinse well with water and dry with a
jet of air or a chamois leather.
Dry the less visible parts (e.g. door
frames, bonnet, headlight frames, etc.)
with special care, as water may
stagnate more easily in these areas. Do
not wash the vehicle after it has been
left in the sun or with the bonnet hot:
this may alter the shine of the
paintwork.
Headlights
Use a soft cloth soaked in water and
detergent for washing cars.
IMPORTANT Never use aromatic
substances (e.g. petrol) or ketones (e.g.
acetone) for cleaning the plastic lenses
of the headlights.
IMPORTANT When cleaning with a
pressure washer, keep the water jet at
least 20 cm away from the headlights.
Exterior plastic parts must be cleaned
in the same way as the rest of the
vehicle.
IMPORTANT
Avoid parking under trees; the resin
dropped by trees makes the paintwork
go opaque and increases the possibility
of corrosion.
