Functionn of the 4MATIC
Refueling
Keep doors and windows closed during
the refueling process.
4MATIC ensures that all four wheels are driven.
Together with ESP® and 4ETS, 4MATIC improves
the traction of your vehicle whenever a driven
wheel spins due to insuꢀcient traction.
Refueeling the vehhicle
If you or other people come into contact with
fuel, observe the following:
&
WARNING Risk of ꢂre or explosion from
fuel
#
Immediately rinse fuel oꢁ your skin with
soap and water.
If you fail to adapt your driving style, 4MATIC can
neither reduce the risk of an accident nor override
the laws of physics. 4MATIC cannot take account
of road, weather and traꢀc conditions. 4MATIC is
only an aid. You are responsible especially for
maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in
front, for vehicle speed, for braking in good time
and for staying in lane.
Fuels are highly ꢃammable.
#
Fire, open ꢃames, smoking and creating
sparks must be avoided.
#
If fuel comes into contact with your eyes,
immediately rinse them thoroughly with
clean water. Seek medical attention
immediately.
#
Before refueling, switch oꢁ the vehicle
and, if installed, the stationary heater,
and leave them switched oꢁ during refu-
eling.
#
If you swallow fuel, seek medical atten-
tion immediately. Do not induce vomit-
ing.
%
In wintry road conditions, the maximum eꢁect
of 4MATIC can be achieved only if you use
winter tires (M+S tires), with snow chains if
necessary.
&
WARNING Risk of injury from fuels
#
Change immediately out of clothing that
has come into contact with fuel.
Fuels are poisonous and hazardous to your
health.
#
&
WARNING Risk of ꢂre and explosion due
to electrostatic charge
Do not swallow fuel or let it come into
contact with skin, eyes or clothing.
#
Do not inhale fuel vapor.
Electrostatic charge can ignite fuel vapor.
#
Keep children away from fuel.
