FLAT TIRE  
If you have a flat tire, follow the instructions  
below.  
Never change tires when the vehicle is  
on a slope, ice or sꢁippeꢂ areas. This is  
hazardous.  
Removing the spare tire cover (if so  
equipped)  
STOPPING THE VEHICLE  
The spare tire cover cannot be removed or  
attached unless the spare tire is detached from  
the spare tire carrier.  
Never change tires if oncoming traffic is  
cꢁose to your vehicꢁe. Wait for profes-  
sional road assistance.·  
1 . Safely move the vehicle off the road away  
from traffic.  
2. Turn on the hazard warning flashers.  
3. Park on a level surface and apply the parking  
brake. Shift the manual transmission into R  
(Reverse) position [automatic transmission in  
P (Park)].

WARNING:  
ꢀThe transfer shift lever must be in the  
2H, 4H or 4L position to prevent the vehicle  
from roꢁling. Never pꢁace it in the N (Neu-  
tral) position.  
4. Turn off the engine.  
5. Have all passengers get out of the vehicle  
and stand in a safe place, away from traffic  
and clear of the vehicle.

Remove the spare tire turning the handle as  
shown. (A padlock can be put on the handle.) •

Place suitable blocks at both the front and  
backof the wheel diagonally oppositethe flattire  
ꢀ to prevent the vehicle from moving when it  
is jacked up.  
Wagꢃn and Hardtꢃp mꢃdels:  
Remove the spare tire using the jack rod and  
wheel nut wrench as shown.  
Loosen the three nuts to remove the spare tire  
from the back door.  
Be careful nꢃt tꢃ lꢃꢃsen the hanger bꢃlt  
excessꢅvely; ꢃtheꢄꢅse the hanger wꢅll  
falꢈ suddenꢈy.  
If nut ® is equipped with the key cylinder,

unlock it using the key before removing.  
Be sure tꢃ bꢈꢃck the wheel as the vehꢅcle  
may mꢃve and cꢃuꢈd cause peꢇꢃnaꢈ ꢅnjuꢂꢉ

N�ver use oiꢈ or grease on the wheeꢈ  
studs or nutsꢉ This may cause the wheeꢈ

Carefuꢈꢈy read the cautꢅon ꢈabeꢈ attached to  
the jack body and the foꢈꢈowing instruc-

2. Loosen each wheel nut one or two turns by  
turning counterclockwise with the wheel nut  
wrench, Do not remove the wheeꢈ nuts

between the wheel and hub.

dꢐꢅveꢐ side centeꢐ pillaꢐ.  
3. Tighten the wheel nuts alternately and evenly  
in the sequence illustrated ꢍꢆ - @), more  
than 2 times with the wheel nut wrench, until  
they are tight.  
4. Lower the vehicle slowly until the tire touches  
the ground.

suꢐge could cause the vehicle to collꢅde  
with the tow vehꢅcꢁe.  
5. Tighten the wheel nuts securely, with the  
wheel nut wrench, in the sequence illus-  
trated.

ignition key to ON and slowly release the

equipped). Cover the battery with an old  
cloth as shown.  
2. Hold the clutch pedal fully depressed and  
shift into second or third gear. Place the  
transfer shift lever in 2H and free-running  
hubs (if so equipped) in the AUTO or FREE  
position.  
Wheel nut tꢅghtening toꢐque:  
133 N·m (14 kg-m, 98 ft-Ib)  
2. Connect jumper cables in the sequence as  
illustrated.  
The wheeꢁ nuts must be kept tightened to
