INSTRUMENTS AND CONTROLS  
A warning light which remains per-  
manently lit indicates that the unit con-  
cerned is not operating correctly. Do  
not ignore this warning: contact a  
PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.  
Low coolant level  
warning light*  
You must stop.  
Oil pressure warning  
light  
Together with the STOP  
warning light.  
Wait until the engine cools  
before topping up.  
The cooling circuit is pressurised.  
When opening to top up, turn the cap  
to the first notch to let the pressure  
drop.  
You must stop.  
Indicates either:  
- oil pressure is too low,  
- a lack of oil in the lubricating circuit.  
Top up the oil level if necessary.  
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.  
Handbrake, low brake  
fluid level and electronic  
brake force distribution  
warning light  
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.  
Indicates either:  
– that the handbrake is on or has not  
been released correctly,  
– an excessive drop in the brake fluid  
level (if the light remains lit even with  
the handbrake released),  
– a malfunction of the braking system,  
if lit at the same time as the ABS  
warning light.

Engine autodiagnostic  
warning light*

This comes on each time the  
ignition is switched on. If it  
comes on when driving, this  
indicates faulty operation of the injec-  
tion, ignition or emission control  
system.  
There is a risk of damage to the cat-  
alytic converter if your vehicle is  
fitted with one.  
Stop immediately.  
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.  
STOP warning light  
(Together with the oil  
pressure warning light).  
You must stop.  
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.  
Coolant temperature gauge  
- needle in zone A, the temperature  
is correct.  
- needle in zone B, the temperature  
is too high.  
The STOP warning light comes on.  
You must stop.  
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Battery charge  
warning light  
Indicates either:  
Low fuel warning light  
Indicates that there are  
approximately 1.3 gallons  
(6 litres) of fuel remaining  
in the fuel tank.  
- faulty operation of the  
battery charging circuit,  
- loose battery or starter terminals,  
- a broken or loose alternator drive belt  
- an alternator fault,  
(The capacity of the tank is approxi-  
mately 60 litres).  
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Oil gauge*  
When the ignition is switched on, this  
indicates the oil level:  
The reading is only valid if the vehicle  
is on level ground and the engine has  
been switched off for 10 minutes.  
- needle in zone C, the oil level is  
correct,  
- needle in zone D, check the oil level  
using the dipstick and top up if nec-  
essary.  
Oil level and temperature  
gauge*  
When the ignition is switched on, this  
indicates the oil level (see Oil Gauge  
section).  
After approximately 15 seconds, the  
graduated section and the oil level  
symbol go out. The oil temperature is  
then shown.  
Front brake pad wear  
warning light*  
For your safety, change the  
brake pads when the  
warning light comes on.  
- needle in zone E, the temperature  
is correct.  
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.  
- needle in zone F, the temperature  
is too high. To lower the oil temper-  
ature, reduce your speed.  
Never exceed the maximum level on  
the dipstick.  
The oil level indicator switches off  
approximately 15 seconds after start-  
ing the engine.  
Anti-lock braking  
system (ABS) warning  
light*  
It comes on for 3 seconds  
each time the ignition is  
Diesel pre-heat light  
If the light comes on, wait  
until it goes out before trying  
the starter.

(12 km/h.) it indicates a malfunc-  
tion of the ABS.  
However, the vehicle retains con-  
ventional servo-assisted braking.
