RUNNING IN  
Petrol version  
Diesel version  
For the first 625 miles (1000 km)  
do not exceed 80 mph (130 km/h)  
in the highest gear or 3000 to  
3500 rpm.  
For the first 900 miles (1500 km),  
do not exceed 2500 rpm. After  
completing this mileage you may  
drive faster, although you may  
only expect top performance  
after approximately 3 600 miles  
(6000 km).  
On completion of 625 miles  
(1000 km) you may use your vehicle  
normally. However, it is only after  
1500 miles (3000 km) have been  
covered that you may reasonably  
expect full performance.  
During the running in period, do  
not accelerate hard while the engine  
is still cold and do not let the engine  
over-rev.

STARTING THE ENGINE  
Note:  
- if any one of the starting  
conditions is not applied, the

message “brake

start” is  
displayed on the instrument  
panel.  
- in some cases it will be necessary  
to move the steering wheel while  
pressing start button 3 to assist in  
unlocking the steering column; a  
message on the instrument panel  
“Steering not unlocked” warns of  
this.

Remote control RENAULT card  
Starting conditions.  
The message “Insert card” appears  
Follow the starting instructions on  
the instrument panel describing  
the following conditions:  
on trip computer display 1.  
Insert the RENAULT card fully  
into card reader 2.  
Press the brake or clutch pedal  
(you must continue to press the  
pedal throughout the entire  
starting phase) and press button 3.  
If a gear is engaged, the engine can  
only be started if the clutch pedal  
is pressed.  
Hands-free RENAULT card  
The card must be within the  
detection zone

(passenger  
compartment and boot, but  
excluding some elevated areas  
such as sun visors, spectacle  
holder, top of dashboard, etc.).  
Special note for vehicles with  
automatic transmission: depress

Operating faults  
In certain cases, the RENAULT  
card may not work:

Insert the card into the card  
reader 2 if you wish to start the  
engine with the tailgate open.  
- if the vehicle is located in a zone  
of high electromagnetic radiation,  
- if appliances are operating on the  
same frequency as the card  
(mobile phone, video game, etc.);

- when the RENAULT card battery  
is drained, flat battery, etc.  
The trip computer display 1 will  
show the message “Card not  
detected” followed by “Insert card”.

Insert the RENAULT card fully into  
the card reader 2.  
Accessories function  
To switch on certain functions with  
the engine off, (radio, navigation  
system, etc.) press button 3 without  
depressing the pedals.

STOPPING THE ENGINE  
Remote control RENAULT card  
If the card is no longer in the card  
detection zone after pressing once,  
the messages Confirm Engine Stop  
and Press STOP Twice appear on  
the instrument panel.  
With the card in reader 2, one press  
on the engine Start/Stop button  
switches the engine off. Removing  
the card from the reader locks the  
steering column (check that it has  
locked).  
To confirm that you want the engine  
to switch off, press button 3 twice  
more.  
If the card is no longer in the reader,  
after pressing once, the messages  
Confirm Engine Stop and Press  
STOP Twice appear on the  
instrument panel.

Never leave your vehicle  
with the RENAULT card  
inside and never leave a

Conditions for stopping the  
engine  
- vehicle stationary;  
With the card inside the vehicle,  
one press on the engine Start/Stop  
button 3 switches off the engine and  
locks the steering column (check  
that is has locked).  
There is a risk that they could  
start the engine or operate  
electrical equipment (electric  
windows) and trap part of their  
body (neck, arms, hands, etc.).  
Risk of serious injury.

(radio, climate control, etc.) will  
continue to function for about  
20 minutes.  
When you leave your  
vehicle, especially if you  
have your RENAULT  
card with you, check  
that the engine is completely  
switched off.  
When the driver's door is opened,  
the accessories stop working.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF PETROL VERSIONS  
The following operating conditions

To clean the particle filter, drive at  
an average speed of 36 mph  
(60 km/h) (24 mph (40 km/h) for  
1.5 dCi engine) for the next  
60 miles (100 km), subject to traffic  
conditions and speed limits, until  
the warning light goes out. If the  
vehicle is stopped before the  
warning light disappears you will  
have to restart the process from the  
beginning.

ASSISTED PARKING BRAKE  
Note: when the driver’s door is

In this case, it is essential to  
immobilise the vehicle by pulling

ADVICE ON ANTI-POLLUTION FUEL ECONOMY AND DRIVING  
RENAULT is actively striving to  
reduce pollutant exhaust gas  
emissions and to save energy.  
Maintenance  
Engine adjustments  
- Ignition: this does not require any  
adjustment.  
It should be noted that failure to  
respect anti-pollution standards  
may lead to legal action being taken  
against the vehicle owner. In  
addition, replacing engine, fuel

- Idling speed: this does not require  
any adjustment.  
Your RENAULT Dealer has all the  
equipment necessary for ensuring  
that your vehicle is maintained to  
its original standard.  
- Air filter, diesel filter: a clogged  
element reduces output and must  
be replaced.

ADVICE ON ANTIPOLLUTION, FUEL ECONOMY AND DRIVING (continued)  
- Brake as little as possible by

Driving  
- Drive carefully for the first few  
miles until the engine reaches its  
normal operating temperature,  
rather than let it warm up while  
the vehicle is stationary.  
- Double  
declutching  
and  
accelerating before switching off  
are superfluous actions in modern  
vehicles.  
- Speed is expensive.  
- “Sporty” driving uses a lot of fuel:  
drive with a “light right foot”.  
- Bad weather, flooded roads  
Do not drive through  
floods if the depth of  
water is above the lower  
edge of the wheel rims.

ADVICE ON FUEL ECONOMY AND DRIVING (continued)  
- It is normal to observe an increase  
in fuel consumption (especially in  
urban conditions) when air  
conditioning is used on vehicles  
equipped with air conditioning.  
Switch off the air conditioning  
when it is not required on vehicles  
fitted  
with  
manual  
air  
conditioning.  
Advice for reducing consumption  
and therefore helping to preserve  
the environment:  
Drive with the vents open and the  
windows closed.  
If the vehicle has been parked in  
the sun, open the doors for a few  
moments to let the hot air escape  
before starting the engine.  
General hints  
- Avoid using the vehicle for  
“door-to-door” calls, (short  
journeys with long waits in  
between) because the engine never  
reaches its normal operating  
temperature.  
- Electricity is “fuel”; switch off all  
the electrical components which  
are not really needed. However  
(safety first), keep your lights on  
when the visibility is bad (“see  
and be seen”).  
- Never fill the fuel tank right to the  
brim to avoid overflow.  
- Do not leave an empty roof rack  
fitted to the vehicle.  
- It is better to fit a trailer for bulky  
objects.  
Tyres  
- Use the air vents. Driving with the  
windows open at 60 mph  
(100 km/h) will increase fuel  
consumption by +4%.  
- Underinflation increases fuel  
consumption.

The use of non-recommended tyres  
can increase fuel consumption.  
- When towing a caravan, fit a wind  
deflector and adjust it carefully.

recycled.  
For certain diesel vehicles, this  
system also has a particle filter to  
reduce the volume of soot  
particles emitted.  
- In all cases, comply with local  
legislation.  
Recycling:  
RENAULT has used all its  
expertise to reduce environmental  
impact as far as possible during  
the whole lifetime of your vehicle.  
2.19  
TYRE PRESSURE MONITOR  
This system monitors the tyre  
inflation pressure.  
Operating principle  
Each wheel (except the emergency  
spare wheel) has a sensor in the  
inflation valve which periodically  
measures the tyre pressure.  
The pressures must be adjusted  
when the tyres are cold.  
If tyre pressures cannot be checked  
when the tyres are cold, assume an  
increase of 0.2 to 0.3 bar (3 psi).  
The system informs the driver that  
the tyres are sufficiently inflated  
and warns if they are under-  
inflated or if there is a leak.  
Never deflate a hot tyre.  
This function is an  
additional driving aid.  
However, the function  
does not take the place of  
the driver. It cannot, therefore,  
under any circumstances replace  
the  
vigilance  
or  
the  
responsibility of the driver.  
Check the tyre pressures once a  
month.

Non-interchangeability of

To mark the correct position of the  
wheel, note the colour of the ring 2  
(after cleaning, if necessary) on each  
valve:  
- A: yellow ring

depending on the nature of the  
ground, weather conditions and  
your reactions. The Anti-lock  
Braking System (ABS) has been  
designed to combat this danger.

The warning light in the switch  
stays on and the message “Parking  
proximity sensor deactivated”  
appears on the instrument panel  
for approximately 10 seconds.  
When the vehicle is being driven at  
a speed below 7 mph (12 km/h),  
certain noises (motor cycle, lorry,  
pneumatic drill, etc.) may trigger  
the beeping sound.
