Lighting 105  
Vehicles with daytime running lights 3:  
With the ignition on and the light  
switch on 7, dipped beam without  
instrument illumination is on.  
Lighting  
The daytime running lights switch off when  
the ignition is switched off.  
Follow the regulations of the country in  
which you are driving when using daytime  
running lights and fog lights 3.

To switch from dip ped to main beam , push  
stalk forwards.

turn signal light is automatically  
deactivated.  
To activate the headlight flash, pull stalk  
towards steering wheel. Main beam is  
engaged for the duration of activation.  
The front fog lights can only be switched on  
when both the ignition and the headlights  
are on.  
When the main beam or headlight flash is  
activated, the blue control indicator C  
lights.  
Brief flash: Push stalk to resistance point  
and release.

The fog tail light can only be switched

and the ignition is switched on.

To activate, press button ¨.

Headlight range adjustment ?  
Manual headlight range adjustment  
With dipped beam switched on, adjust  
headlight range in four steps to suit vehicle  
load. Push to release knob and turn it  
against resistance to the required position.  
To deactivate, press button ¨ again.  
To aid location of the pushbutton, the red  
surface is illuminated when the ignition is  
switched on. When the button is pressed,  
its control indicator flashes in time with the  
hazard warning lights.

Correct adjustment of the headlight range  
reduces dazzle for other road users.  
Automaticheadlight range adjustment 3  
On vehicles with Xenon headlights,  
headlight range is adjusted automatically  
based on vehicle load.

Adaptive Forward Lighting  
(AFL) 3

An additional light illuminates at certain  
steering wheel positions (after  
approx. 90°), turn signal settings and  
speeds (up to approx. 25 mph (40 km/h)).

Control indicator B for adaptive driving  
lights  
Illuminated: Fault in system.  
The sy stem is not ready for operation.  
AFL improves illumination of:  
z Curves (curve lighting),  
Contact a workshop.  
z Intersections and tight turns  
(turn lighting).  
The light shines approx. 90° to the left or  
right of the vehicle and approx. 30 metres  
to the front.  
The steering angle sensor must be  
calibrated after a power supply  
interruption, in order to make the system  
operational. See page 150.  
Curve lighting (1)  
The light beam pivots based on steering  
wheel position and speed (from approx.  
6 mph (10 km/h)).  
Reverse function  
Turning the headlights on, selecting  
reverse gear and switching a turn signal  
light on causes the turn lighting to be  
switched on for the respective side.  
When the turn signal is switched off, the  
turn lighting continues to illuminate for  
approx. 15 seconds.  
If the control indicator B flashes for  
approx. 4 seconds after the ignition is  
switched on, this is a reminder that the  
headlights have been set to symmetrical  
dipped beam; see "Headlights when  
driving abroad" on page 113.  
The headlights shine at an angle of up  
to 15° to the right or left of the direction of  
travel.

Lighting  
If the driver’s door is leftopen, the lights will  
go out after approx. two minutes.  
The light goes out immediately if the  
ignition key is inserted in the starter switch  
or the turn signal stalk is moved again.

Door-to-door lighting function 3  
Activating the exterior lighting  
with the remote control 3  
The dipped beam illuminates for approx.  
30 seconds after leaving the vehicle and  
closing the driver’s door.  
The welcome light function engages the  
dipped beam for approx. 30 seconds.  
To activate:  
1. Switch off ignition.  
This feature must be activated (once):  
Unlock the vehicle, put the ignition key in  
the starter switch and press the light switch  
for approx. 5 seconds - see Fig. 14136 S on  
next page.  
2. Remove ignition key.  
3. Open driver’s door.  
4. Pull turn sig nal stalk tow ards steering  
wheel.  
To deactivate the function, contact a  
workshop.  
5. Close driver’s door.  
Lighting 111  
To activate the welcome light function,  
press button q on the remote control  
twice, with the vehicle locked.  
Country-specific version 3:  
To enable the welcome light function,press  
button q on the remote control once, with  
the vehicle loc ked.  
This feature is deactivated immediately by  
pressing button p on the remote controlor  
by switching on the ignition.

Illuminates when ignition is switched on.  
Automatic interior light  
Illuminates automatically when the vehicle  
is unlocked with the remote control or when  
a door is opened.  
Brightness can be adjusted when the  
exterior lights are on:  
Goes off automatically after a delay when  
the doors are closed or immediately when  
the ignition is switched on or the doors are  
locked.  
Push to rele ase knob k and then turn it  
clockwise or anticlockwise and hold until  
the desired brightness is obtained.

After unlocking the vehicle, the instrument  
panel and switch lighting plus the courtesy  
lights illuminate for a few seconds.

Illuminates when ignition is on and the  
glove compartment lid is opened.  
Cigarette lighter

Have a workshop convert the headlights.  
Some consumers, such as the interior  
lighting switch themselves off after approx.  
30 minutes if the ignition is off, in order to  
protect the battery charge.  
Vehicles with Adaptive Forward  
Lighting (AFL) 3  
Light covers  
1. Pull stalk for main beam towards  
steering wheel and hold  
(headlight flash).  
The inside of the light covers may briefly  
mist up under unfavourable wet / cold  
weather conditions, during heavy rain or  
after the vehic le has been washed. The  
misting disappears of its own accord after  
a short time, but can be accelerated by  
switching on the lights.  
2. Sw itch on ignition.  
3. After approx. 3 seconds, an acoustic  
signal sounds and the AFL control  
indicator B flashes for approx.  
4 seconds.  
Headlights when driving abroad  
The asymmetrical dipped beam increases  
the field of vision on the passenger’s side of  
the lane.  
After the change, AFL control indicator B  
flashes for approx. 4 seconds each time the  
ignition is switched on.  
To return to asymmetrical dipped beam,  
pull the main beam stalk towards the  
steering wheel again and hold, switch on  
the ignition and wait for the acoustic  
signal. AFL control indicator Bwill then  
discontinue flashing.  
This causes glare for oncoming trafficif the  
vehicle is driven in countries where traffic  
drives on the opposite side of the road.
