Multi-collision brake (MCB)
Braking and stabilising sys-
tems
MCB helps to decelerate and stabilize the vehicle af-
ter a collision with an obstacle. This reduces the risk
of further collisions.
Overview
Operating conditions
✓
There has been a frontal, side and rear collision
of a certain severity.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
ESC helps to stabilise the vehicle in borderline situa-
tions (e.g. when the vehicle starts to skid). ESC
brakes the individual wheels to maintain the direc-
tion of travel.
✓
✓
The impact speed was greater than 10 km/h.
The brakes, ESC and other required systems re-
mained functional after the impact.
Flashes – ESC is engaged
✓
The accelerator pedal is not pressed.
Traction control (ASR)
ASR helps to stabilise the vehicle when accelerating
or driving on low-grip roads. ASR reduces the drive
power transmitted to the wheels when the wheels
spin.
Settings
Deactivate/Activate ASR
— Press the button under the Infotainment.
Or:
Flashes – ASR is engaged
Applies to 10″ Infotainment:
Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
—
Car tap.
ABS helps to maintain control of the vehicle during
emergency braking. An ABS intervention is noticea-
ble by pulsating movements of the brake pedal.
When deactivated, lights up in the instrument
cluster.
goes out on renewed activation.
Engine drag torque control (MSR)
Deactivating the ASR may be helpful in the following
situations:
MSR helps to maintain control of the vehicle in the
event of a sudden reduction in speed, e.g. on icy
roads. If the wheels of the driven axle lock, the MSR
MSR increases the engine speed. This reduces the
braking effect of the engine and the wheels can ro-
tate freely again.
— Driving with snow chains
— Driving in deep snow or on very loose ground
— Starting up a vehicle that is stuck
Electronic Differential Lock (EDS)
EDS helps to stabilise the vehicle when driving on
road surfaces with different grip under the individual
wheels. EDS brakes a spinning wheel and transmits
power to a different drive wheel.
Troubleshooting
ESC or ASR faulty/deactivated by the system

Electronic Differential Lock (XDS+)
XDS+ helps to keep the vehicle in the curve by effec-
tively braking the inside wheels.
— Stop the engine and start again.
— If the indicator light does not go out after cover-
ing a short distance, seek the help of a specialist
garage.
Hill Hold Control (HHC)
HHC helps when starting off on uphill gradients by
braking the vehicle for about 2 seconds after the
brake pedal is released.
ABS faulty

— You may continue driving, exercising ap-
propriate caution. Seek the help of a spe-
cialist garage.
Operating conditions
✓
The gradient is at least 5%.
