Information displays on the digital instrument cluster

The range of content and layout of the menus and displays depend on the vehicle electronics and the level of vehicle

equipment.

Correspondingly qualified workshops can program and modify other functions depending on the vehicle equipment

level.

Some menu options can only be called up when the vehicle is stationary.

Possible displays in the main display area of the digital instrument cluster

A range of information can be shown in the main display of the digital instrument cluster, depending on the vehicle

equipment (→ Digital instrument cluster):

—Outside temperature

—Date and time (→ Clock).

—Road signs detected by the Dynamic Road Sign Display system .

—Driver assist systems.

—Gear-change indicator (→ Gear-change indicator).

—Open doors, bonnet and boot lid.

—Speed warning for winter tyres

—Maximum speed limit.

—Radiator fan after-run.

—Engine code (EC

).

—Personalisation: Welcome (→ Personalisation).

—Radio and navigation information.

—Range.

—Service interval display (→ Service interval display).

—With some equipment levels: Status of Active Cylinder Management (ACT®

) (→ Driving economically).

—Start/stop system status .

—Economical mode

.

—Warning and information messages

—Selector lever position for automatic gearbox.

Outside temperature display

If the outside temperature falls below about +4°C(+39°F), the temperature display also shows the symbol. This

symbol remains lit until the outside temperature rises above +6°C (+43°F) .

In the following situation, the temperature displayed may be higher than the actual outside temperature as a result

of the heat radiated from the engine.

—When the vehicle is stationary.

—When the auxiliary heater is being used.

—When travelling at very low speeds.

The measuring range is between -45°C(-49°F) and +76°C (+169°F).

WARNING

Streets and bridges can ice over at outside temperatures above freezing point.

● The symbol indicates that there is a risk of black ice.

● There may also be black ice on the road at outside temperatures above +4°C(+39°F) when the symbol is not

displayed.

● Never rely only on the outside temperature display!

Gear-change indicator

A recommended gear for reducing fuel consumption may be displayed while the vehicle is in motion (→ Gear-change

indicator).

Open doors, bonnet and boot lid

The instrument cluster display indicates if any doors, the bonnet or boot lid are open once the vehicle has been

unlocked and while the vehicle is in motion. In some cases, an acoustic signal is also given.

Speed warning for winter tyres

The display shows that the vehicle is exceeding the set maximum speed.

Speed warning settings can be made in the vehicle settings in the Infotainment system (→ Vehicle settings menu).

Maximum speed limiter

The customer-specific maximum speed limiter restricts the vehicle speed to a set maximum value that cannot be

exceeded. This maximum speed can only be set by a suitably qualified workshop.

If you start the vehicle’s engine when the maximum speed limit has been set, the indicator lamp lights up in the

instrument cluster display. The set maximum speed is also indicated by a text message.

WARNING

The set maximum speed limit can make overtaking difficult. This can result in serious injury and accidents.

● Always adapt your speed and way of driving to the set maximum speed.

● The maximum speed limit cannot be overridden by a kick-down.

Radiator fan run-on

This appears after the engine has been switched off and the radiator fan continues to run.

The cause of this can be:

—Exhaust gas treatment, e.g. as part of particulate filter regeneration.

—Active brake cooling after hill descent.

—Dissipation of engine heat after a high load.

Engine code

1. Opening the Service menu (→ Service menu).

2. Select the Engine code menu option.

Economical mode

The display shows whether the vehicle is driving in an economical mode .

Selector lever position for the automatic gearbox

The engaged position and, depending on the gearbox program, the engaged gear are shown both on the selector

lever and on instrument cluster display. The gear shift pattern is displayed in the instrument cluster when the brake

or selector lever is operated.

Possible secondary displays in the digital instrument cluster

Depending on equipment, a configuration menu allows additional views to be configured and displayed in the

secondary display area of the digital instrument cluster (→ Digital instrument cluster):

—Operating temperatures.

—Date and time (→ Clock).

—Multifunction displays, e.g. Driving time/distance covered (→ Driving data display (multifunction display)).

—Compass display.

—Charge pressure.

—Power output.

—Torque distribution.

—Navigation information.

—Telephone information.

—Destination information.

Operating temperatures

The following operating temperatures are displayed in theOperating temperatures secondary display, depending on

the equipment:

—Engine oil.

—Coolant.

—Gearbox.

Compass display

The current direction of travel(blue arrow) is shown on a diagram of your vehicle alongside a compass when the

Compass secondary display is activated.

Torque distribution

The secondary display Torque distribution shows the currently present wheel-selective torque.

Navigation information

The Navigation information secondary display shows the direction of travel using an arrow when route guidance is

active.

An arrow or after the entry in the configuration menu indicates that a submenu is available.

The submenu contains your home address and a list of recent destinations. You can start route guidance from here by

pressing the

button.

Telephone information

If the Telephone secondary display is activated and a mobile telephone is connected via Bluetooth®, the symbol is

shown in the instrument cluster display .

In addition, the symbol shows the charge level of the mobile phone battery

An arrow or after the entry in the configuration menu indicates that a submenu is available.

The submenu displays a list of recent telephone calls and allows you to call back the displayed contacts.

Destination information

The Destination information secondary display shows the estimated travel time and the distance to your destination

in km when route guidance is activated.

Some settings can be saved in the user accounts of the personalisation function and can therefore change

automatically when the user account is changed (→ Personalisation).

Different instrument clusters are available, which means that the versions and displays may vary. In displays

without warning or information texts, faults are indicated exclusively by the indicator lamps.

Some displays in the instrument cluster may be overridden by sudden alerts, e.g. incoming telephone

calls.

Depending on the vehicle equipment level, some settings and displays may also appear in the Infotainment

system.

If several warning reports are detected, the symbols will appear for several seconds, one after another. The

symbols will continue to appear until the faults are rectified.

If warning messages about malfunctions are displayed when the ignition is switched on, it may not be

possible to adjust some settings as described, or the information display may appear differently. If the fault

persists, go to a correspondingly qualified workshop.

Rev counter

The start of the red zone on the dial indicates the maximum engine speed that may be used in each gear when the

engine is warm and after it has been run in properly.

You should change up a gear, select selector lever position D/S or lift your foot off the accelerator before the needle

reaches the red zone.

NOTICE

● When the engine is cold, avoid high engine speeds, driving at full throttle and overloading the engine.

● The needle on the rev counter should only briefly point into the red area, as engine damage may otherwise be

incurred.

Changing up a gear early will help to save fuel and reduce engine

noise.
