Operating the alarm  
Only use the alarm button in emergency. Pressing  
the button triggers the alarm » page 24. Pressing  
the button again will stop the alarm.

NOTICE  
Protect the key from moisture and strong vibra-  
tions.  
WARNING  
·
Unauthorised persons (e.g. children) can lock the  
vehicle, start it or use electrical equipment such as  
the control buttons for the windows.  
Keep the grooves in the key clean.  
·
The key signal rage is approximately 30 m. The  
range can be reduced, e.g. due to signal inter-  
ference from other transmitters.  
When leaving the vehicle, keep the keys with  
you.  
·
If you lose your key, contact your Volkswagen  
Service Partner who will provide you with  
a replacement key.  
Troubleshooting  
The battery in the key is almost empty  
— The warning light does not flash when a button  
on the key is pressed.  
Option 1  
Or:  
— The display in the instrument cluster shows  
a message that the battery needs to be replaced.  
The vehicle is locked

This may be because:  
— The battery in the key is empty.  
— Replace the battery » page 21, Replacing the key  
battery.  
Or:  
— The key is not synchronised.  
Synchronise the key as follows:  
1. Press any button on the key.  
2. Unlock the door with the key via the locking cyl-  
inder within 1 min. » page 22.  
Option 2  
If necessary, the key must be synchronised if  
a button on the key has been repeatedly  
pressed outside of the remote control's effective  
range.

If you are unsure about how the battery  
should be replaced, we recommend contact-  
ing your Volkswagen Service Partner.  
Replacing the key battery  
The new battery must comply with the specification  
of the original battery  
Environment  
— Discharged batteries must not be disposed of in  
household waste.  
Removing the battery cover  
— Dispose of discharged batteries in an environ-  
mentally-friendly way.  
Dispose of the vehicle key in accordance with  
all applicable disposal regulations.  
Central locking  
Functionality  
1. Fold out the key.  
2. Release the battery cover with your thumbnail  
or by inserting a flat-head screwdriver at the  
marked points.  
Central locking  
The system unlocks and locks all doors, the fuel filler  
flap and the boot lid at the same time.  
3. Open the battery cover.  
Unlock indicator: Double flashing of the turn signal  
Replacing the battery

Lock indicator: Single flashing of the turn signal  
lights.  
The indicator light in the driver's door will flash for  
about 2 seconds in quick succession after the vehicle  
is locked, then regularly at longer intervals.  
If none of the doors or the boot lid is opened  
within 45 seconds of unlocking, the vehicle  
automatically locks again.  
1. Remove the battery.

2. Press any button on the remote key to reset the  
key.

Locking/unlocking using the central locking button  
If the battery is swallowed, serious injuries or  
death due to chemical burns to the digestive tract  
could result.  
— To lock, press the button in the driver’s door.  
The symbol in the button lights up when it is  
locked.  
Always keep children away from the vehicle key  
and batteries.

— To unlocking, press the button in the driver’s  
door.  
Obtain medical attention immediately if the  
battery is swallowed.

The button locks/unlocks all the doors and the boot

from inside or the key is removed from the ignition.

To unlock the vehicle, use one of the following  
methods:  
WARNING  
An automatically locked vehicle is difficult to ac-  
cess in an emergency.  
— Open some of the doors from the inside.  
— Press the central locking button  
Opening the doors from the inside when the vehicle  
is locked  
— Remove the key from the ignition (depending on  
vehicle equipment)  
Applies to driver’s door  
The vehicle will unlock automatically when the air-  
bags are activated.  
— First pull on the door handle: Unlocking and lock-  
ing the door  
Valid for 10" Infotainment system.  
The function can be deactivated/activated in  
the Infotainment system.  
Applies to front passenger door and rear doors:  
— First pull on the door handle: Unlocking the door  
— First pull on the door handle: Opening the door  
WARNING  
An automatically locked vehicle is difficult for res-  
ponders to access in an emergency.  
Setting the unlocking and locking

— Select the following menu from the Infotainment  
system:

Car Opening and Closing  
— The warning light in the drivers door first flashes  
for 2 seconds in quick succession.  
All doors  
All doors, the boot lid and the fuel filler flap unlock.  
— It then lights up continuously.  
— After 30 seconds, it starts flashing slowly.  
— Seek the assistance from a specialist garage.  
Single door  
The button on the key can be used to unlock the  
front door and the fuel filler flap.  
Pressing again unlocks the other doors and the boot  
lid.  
Unlocking and locking the door me-  
chanically  
In vehicles equipped with a keyless locking system,  
the door near to which the key is located and the  
fuel filler flap are unlocked by pressing the button  
on the door handle.  
Unlocking and locking the door with the lock cylin-  
der  
Doors on one side of the vehicle  
The button can be used to unlock the door on the  
driver's side and the fuel filler flap.  
Pressing again unlocks the other doors and the boot  
lid.  
In vehicles equipped with a keyless locking system,  
the doors on the passenger’s side near to which the  
key is located and the fuel filler flap are unlocked by  
pressing the button on the door handle.  
Automatic locking after starting  
Removing the cover:  
The automatic locking system can prevent unau-  
thorised entry into the vehicle during a short stop.  
1. Pull the driver's door handle and hold it.  
2. Insert the key into the recess on the underside  
of the cover.  
All doors and the boot lid are locked automatically  
when the speed of 15 km/h is reached. Locking is in-

3. Lift the cover in the direction of the arrow.  
4. Release the door handle.  
Operation  
Keep the key with you when unlocking and locking.  
Unlocking  
Locking/unlocking:  
— Insert the key into the lock cylinder and unlock or  
lock it.  
1. Hold the door handle.  
2. Press the button.  
3. Open the door.  
Fitting the cover:  
1. Pull the door handle and hold it.  
2. Replace the cover.  
Locking  
3. Release the door handle.  
Locking the door without the lock cylinder  
1. Close the door.  
2. Press the button.  
1. Open the door.  
After locking, it is not possible to unlock the door  
within 2 seconds by pressing the button.  
2. Insert the key or a flat-head screwdriver into  
the slot.  
Unlocking the boot lid  
3. Use the key or a flat-blade screwdriver to push  
it in towards the door.  
— Press the handle on the boot lid.  
4. Close the door.  
Protection against inadvertently locking the key in  
the vehicle  
If the key is locked inside the vehicle, the vehicle will  
unlock itself automatically. If no door is opened  
within 45 seconds, the vehicle automatically locks  
again.  
Deactivate keyless locking  
Use  
If the key is locked in the boot, the boot lid will au-  
tomatically unlock itself.  
The keyless locking system (Keyless Access) allows  
you to unlock and lock the car without actively using  
the key.

1. Lock the vehicle with the button on the key.  
2. Press the button on the door handle within  
5 seconds.

Deactivation is confirmed by a single flash of  
the direction indicators.  
Switching off the triggered alarm  
3. To check the deactivation, wait at least 10 sec-  
onds and then press the button on outer the  
door handle.  
— Unlock the vehicle.  
Or:  
The door should remain locked.  
— Turn on the ignition.  
Or:  
Keyless locking is automatically reactivated after the  
vehicle is unlocked.  
— Pressing the alarm button on the key (only applies  
to key version 2) » page 20).  
Troubleshooting  
The vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked using the  
button on the handle  
1. Lock or unlock the vehicle with the button on  
the key.  
2. Wait at least 5 seconds and then try to unlock or  
lock the vehicle using the button on the handle.  
3. If keyless locking does not work, seek assistance  
from a specialist garage.  
If the vehicle is not unlocked for a longer peri-  
od of time, the function can be deactivated  
automatically.  
No key found when the ignition is switched on  
illuminated  
Message: No key found in the vehicle  
— Put the key in the vehicle.  
Alarm system  
Functionality  
The alarm system triggers audible and visual signals.  
The alarm system is automatically activated approxi-  
mately 30 seconds after the vehicle is locked.  
The alarm system is automatically deactivated after  
the vehicle is unlocked.  
Alarm triggering  
The activated alarm system triggers an alarm when  
the following events occur:
