Maintaining and cleaning -> Exterior for Your Volkswagen Virtus 4 Door First Generation (2018-2023)

After washing the vehicle, the functionality of the  
brake system may be affected by moisture and, in  
winter, by ice.  
Instructions for cleaning  
Natural leather / Leatherette / Suedia / Fabric  
Dry and clean the brakes by braking several  
·
— Remove dust and dirt from the surface with  
a vacuum cleaner.

tened cotton cloth or a woollen cloth; if necessa-  
ry, use a mild soap solution1) and wipe with a dry

soon as possible.

— Remove stubborn stains with a suitable cleaning  
agent.  
Do not use rough sponges, scourers or similar to  
remove dirt.

— For regular care of natural leather, use the equip-  
ment provided for this purpose. After each clean,  
use a care cream with light protection and im-  
pregnation effect.  
Use cleaning agents intended for cleaning and  
care of the individual materials.  
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or chemi-  
cal solvents.  
— When cleaning Suedia and fabric surfaces, remove  
stubborn hair with a special cleaning glove. Re-  
move any pilling with a brush.  
Do not polish the vehicle in a dusty environment.  
NOTICE  
Plastic parts  
Paint damage should be repaired as soon as pos-  
sible.

— Remove dirt with water and a slightly moistened  
cloth or sponge with a suitable cleaning agent if  
necessary.  
Do not treat matte painted parts with polish or  
hard wax.  
Windows  
Do not polish foils.  
·
·
— Remove dirt with clean water and dry with a cloth  
provided for this purpose.  
It is recommended to treat door seals and win-  
dow guides with appropriate products from  
Volkswagen original accessories intended for this  
purpose. These ensure that the protective paint  
layer on the seals and window guides is not dam-  
aged.  
Infotainment screen  
— Remove any dirt from the screen using the clean-  
ing agents designed for this purpose.  
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents to clean the  
rear view camera.

Before driving through a car wash  
When removing dirt, do not press on the screen.

— Follow the standard guidelines, e.g. close all win-  
dows, fold the mirrors, unscrew the aerial, etc.  
Seat belts  
— Remove dirt with a soft cloth and a mild soap sol-  
ution1).  
— Move the windscreen wiper lever to the

After washing with wax protection  
Exterior  
— Wipe off the windscreen wiper blades with a dry  
cloth.

Hand washing  
Follow the operating instructions for the pressure

— Wash the vehicle from top to bottom with a soft  
sponge or wash mitt and plenty of water, if nec-  
essary with additional suitable cleaning agents.

Removing snow and ice  
Use a different sponge for wheels, sills and the  
lower part of the vehicle than that used for the  
other vehicle parts.  
NOTICE  
Remove snow and ice with a plastic scraper or  
a suitable de-icing agent.  
Do not wash the vehicle in direct sunlight.

Do not dry clean the headlights or use sharp ob-  
jects.  
·
Clean the cameras with a hand brush.  
·
Only move the scraper in one direction.  
Do not put pressure on the bodywork when wash-  
ing.  
·
·
Do not use scratchers or other sharp objects for  
foils.  
·
The temperature of the washing water should be  
max. 60°C.  
·
Do not remove snow and ice with hot or warm  
water.  
·
After hand washing  
Do not remove snow and ice from surfaces with  
coarse dirt.  
·
— Rinse the vehicle and wipe it with a suitable clean  
cloth.  
Vehicles delivered with matte finish body paint  
from the factory  
Vehicle paint (not applicable for matte finish)  
— Protect the paint at least twice a year with hard  
wax.  
It is not recommended to apply decorative or pro-  
tective films to a vehicle with matte finish.  
— Use a polish for paint that has turned matte.  
NOTICE  
Matte finish  
There is a risk of scratching the matte paint with the  
nylon brushes of the car wash.  
— Use soft, clean microfibre cloths with recommen-  
ded cleaning agents for cleaning.  
Do not wash the vehicle with matte paint in auto-  
·
— To remove visible dust and dirt, clean the surface  
with plenty of water.

NOTICE  
— Remove resin, bird droppings, insect debris and  
other dirt by soaking with water.  
Do not polish or wax the matte paint.

Films  
Do not use wax-based cleaners on matte paint.  
Films will age and become brittle – this is entirely  
normal and not a defect.  
For detailed information on matt finish body  
paint, refer to the "Car Care Guide" brochure.  
The following factors have a negative effect on the  
life or colour fastness of the films:

nently protected by preservative wax at the factory.  
The emission standard, information on fuel con-  
sumption and other information pertaining to your  
vehicle can be found in the vehicle's technical docu-  
mentation.  
— Remove any spilled wax with a plastic scraper and  
remove stains with mineral spirits.  
This information meets the requirements and condi-  
tions stipulated by legal or technical regulations.  
Underseal  
The underside is permanently protected by the fac-  
tory against chemical and mechanical effects.  
This and other information about your vehicle can be  
obtained from a Volkswagen Partner.  
— Have the protective coating checked by a special-  
ist garage before starting and at the end of the  
cold season.  
The information in the vehicle technical documenta-  
tion take precedence over the information in this  
Owner's Manual. These specifications and values ap-  
ply to your vehicle in its condition and configuration  
at the time of delivery from the manufacturer. Ret-  
rofitting an accessory can negatively affect the in-  
formation and values, in particular the fuel con-  
sumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission values  
specified in the vehicle documentation.  
Wheels  
— After washing, preserve the wheels using a suita-  
ble product.  
WARNING  
Risk of accident!  
The performance values indicated have been deter-  
mined without performance-reducing equipment,  
e.g. air conditioning system.  
Excessive dirt on the wheels can unbalance

Car jack  
— If necessary, apply a suitable grease to the mov-  
ing parts.

Vehicle identification number (VIN)  
The vehicle identification number is found in the fol-  
lowing locations:  
— on the right of the engine compartment  
— on a plate under the windscreen in the lower left  
corner  
— on the type plate at the bottom of the vehicle's  
central body pillar  
In some countries the type plate is not used.
