Night vision assist

Description

Applies to: vehicles with night vision assist

With the acceleration measurement, you can

measure the time that you need to reach a specif-

ic speed/distance. For the best possible measure-

ment readings, Audi recommends limiting the

ESC or turning it off. Keep in mind that the envi-

ronmental conditions and tire properties can af-

fect the results of the measurement.

Night vision assist helps you when it is dark by

using an infrared camera to monitor the area in

front of your vehicle, within the limitations of the

system. It can display objects up to a distance of

approximately 1,000 feet (300 m).

Pedestrians, cyclists, and wild animals are de-

tected by measuring the temperature difference

between the object and the background. Pedes-

trians, cyclists, and wild animals will not be de-

tected if the temperature difference is too small.

The pedestrian, cyclist, and wild animal marking

feature is deactivated at temperatures above ap-

proximately 77 °F (25 °C) and when it is light

outside.

Opening the acceleration measurement

Select in the instrument cluster: vehicle func-

tions tab >  button > Acceleration measure

WARNING

Your focus should always be on driving your

vehicle safely. As the driver, you have com-

plete responsibility for safety in traffic. Only

use the acceleration measurement function

on closed courses to reduce the risk of acci-

dents.

The thermal image detected by the camera is dis-

played in the instrument cluster. Warm areas

generally appear lighter and cold areas appear

darker.

Tips

The camera for the night vision assist is located

in the vehicle's radiator grille ðpage 130. Make

sure the night vision camera is not covered by

stickers, deposits, or any other obstructions be-

cause this can impair the night vision assist func-

tion. Follow the information about cleaning

ðpage 296.

The acceleration measurement was calibrated

using the largest possible summer tire/rim

combination available at the factory. Using a

different tire/rim combination could affect

the accuracy of the measurement.

Using the acceleration measurement

Applies to: vehicles with acceleration measurement

WARNING

– Observe the safety precautions and note the

limitations of the assist systems, sensors,

and cameras ðpage 127 to ðpage 130.

– Night vision assist can only detect pedes-

trians, cyclists, and wild animals located

within the range of the infrared camera.

– Night vision assist cannot detect pedes-

trians, cyclists, and wild animals and mark

them if:

Marking and warning

– They are not in an upright position, for ex-

ample if they are sitting or lying down

and/or

– The silhouette in the display appears in-

complete or interrupted, for example be-

cause the pedestrian is partially behind a

vehicle or an animal is partially covered by

tall grass.

– Never attempt to swerve around animals if

doing so would endanger you or other road

users.

Tips

– Even though the system evaluates the

shape and heat given off by all detected ob-

jects, there are limitations to the system.

There may be false warnings.

Highlighting detected pedestrians, cyclists,

and wild animals

Within the limitations of the system, the night

vision assist can detect pedestrians, cyclists, and

wild animals that are between approximately 32

feet (10 m) and 295 feet (90 m) in front of the

vehicle and within the detection zone. Marking

may not work consistently if a cyclist is riding

with a bent posture. Animal recognition is not ac-

tive within highly developed areas. The system

only detects large wild animals such as deer.

When it is dark outside and the low beams are

turned on, detected objects are marked in yellow

1 , within the limitations of the system.

– For technical reasons, the image pauses in

split second intervals.

Turning on or off

Applies to: vehicles with night vision assist

You can turn the night vision assist on or off in

the Driver assistance menu ðpage 131. The set-

tings depend on the vehicle equipment.

The AUTO light function must be selected for

the night vision assist to automatically activate

when it is dark.

When the night vision assist tab is selected in

the instrument cluster and the low beams are

turned off, the thermal image display disap-

pears only after you have exited the tab.

– When the head-up display* is turned on, the 

– If the night vision assist thermal image is re-

placed by another display (such as the on-board

computer), the red  or  warning symbol

will appear if there is a pedestrian, cyclist, or

wild animal warning.

Integrated Toll Module

Description

Applies to: vehicles with Integrated Toll Module

Depending on the region, you can pay toll fees in

certain countries using the Integrated Toll Mod-

ule (ITM). It replaces a separate transponder for

detecting toll fees. The system electronics are in-

tegrated in the rearview mirror housing.

The  symbol will appear when pedestrian, cy-

clist, and wild animal detection is not available.

Marking light*

To direct attention to the pedestrian or the cy-

clist, the pedestrian or cyclist can be illuminated

by the headlights when there is a pedestrian

warning.

To use the ITM in toll zones, you must register

and activate it.

Registration

Requirement: the night vision assist must be

turned on and the  tab must be displayed.

A lower toll fee may be charged depending on the

number of passengers and the region. You must

either enter the number of passengers or deacti-

vate the ITM based on the laws applicable in the

area where you are driving.

Applies to MMI: Select on the home screen: VE-

HICLE > Driver assistance > () > Night vision

assist.

To set the desired contrast, move the slider.

To enter the number of passengers, select the

appropriate button in the MMI.

To deactivate the ITM, press  in the MMI.

Messages

The following messages may appear, depending

on the vehicle equipment:

Tips

– The driver is responsible for specifying the

correct number of passengers and activat-

ing or deactivating the ITM.

 Night vision assist: currently unavailable.

– Malfunctions can occur when detecting tolls

if both the ITM and transponder are activat-

ed. Deactivate the system not being used or

remove it as necessary.

The system is not functioning correctly at the

time, so it has been turned off. If the malfunction

persists, drive immediately to an authorized Audi

dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility to have

the malfunction corrected.

– If the rearview mirror is replaced, you must

ITM from the account.

– The system complies with United States FCC

regulations and ISED regulations
