Emergency call  
An emergency call is a combination of a voice call  
and a data transfer. Important information such  
as details about the vehicle and its position are  
transferred to the relevant emergency switch-  
boards using the vehicle's data transfer function.  
Operation  
Applies to: vehicles with emergency call function  
The services are provided via a SIM card installed  
in the vehicle. Provision of these services requires  
that the mobile network of the SIM card be func-  
tioning and ready for use.  
Depending on the country and the vehicle’s  
equipment, the following functions are available:  
The emergency call function allows you to organ-  
ise assistance as quickly as possible in dangerous  
situations. Use this function whenever you need  
help ðpage 260.  
The EU eCall emergency call is only available  
within the mobile network coverage that is re-  
quired by law.  
The ERA-GLONASS emergency call is only availa-  
ble within the mobile network coverage that is  
required by law.  
Audi connect emergency call (TPS emergency  
call). This eCall system uses third-party emer-  
gency switchboards, which may include public  
emergency switchboards.  
The TPS emergency call is only available within  
the mobile network area covered by the network  
provider selected by Audi.  
Statutory European emergency call (EU  
1)  
eCall) . This eCall system is based on the 112  
SOS number and uses public emergency switch-  
boards.  
Note  
Statutory ERA-GLONASS emergency call  
The emergency call function cannot be de-  
activated via the settings on the infotain-  
ment system.  
The online roadside assistance call function al-  
lows you to request assistance in the event of a  
breakdown or a minor accident ðpage 262.  
EU eCall is a public service of general inter-  
est and is provided free of charge.  
ERA-GLONASS is provided free of charge.  
The availability of the TPS emergency call is  
time-limited.  
WARNING  
In areas with poor GPS reception or outside  
the area covered by your mobile network  
service provider, some functions/services  
may not be able to send/receive data and  
may be restricted or unavailable.  
The cost of TPS voice calls and data connec-  
tions is included in the price of the services.  
Applies to EU eCall or ERA-GLONASS: Not all  
public emergency switchboards can receive  
data transmitted by the vehicle.

is automatically activated via onboard sensors

will make an emergency call automatically if, for  
example, an airbag has been triggered. The LED  
in the emergency call button 2 will flash. The  
emergency call will be placed. The emergency  
call cannot be cancelled.  
The EU eCall can also be triggered manually if  
needed. For instructions on how to activate the  
system manually, please refer to ðpage 261,  
Manual emergency call.  
The TPS emergency call can be placed manually

Green – The emergency call function is availa-  
ble.  
When a TPS emergency call is placed automati-  
cally, information required to alert the emergen-  
cy services may also be transferred to a public  
switchboard or police station to enable assis-  
tance to be provided as quickly as possible.  
Red – A fault has occurred in the emergency  
call function. Please contact a qualified work-  
shop. Please note the driver messages regard-  
ing the availability of the emergency call func-  
tion ðpage 262.  
The ERA-GLONASS emergency call can be placed  
manually or automatically ðpage 261.  
Off – The emergency call function is temporari-  
ly unavailable, e.g. if there is no network.  
Warnings

In the event of a critical emergency call system  
failure, the vehicle occupants receive a warning;  
refer to ðpage 261, Meaning of LEDs and  
ðpage 262, Driver messages.  
Applies to EU eCall: In the event of a critical sys-  
tem failure which would cause the onboard emer-  
gency call system to be out of action, the vehicle  
occupants receive the following warning

Note  
Manual emergency call  
If the emergency call is cut off due to a poor  
connection, the system will re-connect auto-  
matically.  
Important: The ignition must be switched on.  
Lightly press the cover 1 to open it.  
Press the emergency call button until the  
LED 2 flashes. The emergency call will be  
placed.  
If you press the emergency call button acciden-  
tally, press it again immediately until the LED  
lights up permanently. The emergency call will  
be cancelled.

The ERA-GLONASS test mode involves, among  
other things, a test emergency call to a test con-  
trol centre.

An online roadside assistance call is a combina-  
tion of a voice call and a data transfer. Important  
information such as details about the vehicle and  
its position are transferred to the Audi call centre  
using the vehicle's data transfer function.  
The test mode can be started within the first 20  
seconds after the ignition is switched on. Briefly  
press the emergency call button behind the cover  
1 ðpage 261, Fig. 170 ten times after switch-  
ing on the ignition.

The test mode must only be started by a  
qualified technician.
