Connecting/charging a mobile device via USB

adapter

– It cannot be guaranteed that mobile devices

which do not conform to the USB 2.0 speci-

fication will function properly.

Connect the corresponding USB adapter to the

USB port and then connect it to the mobile de-

vice (e.g. smartphone).

– USB hubs are not supported.

– Video playback via the USB ports is not sup-

ported by Apple devices or by MTP devices

(e.g. smartphones).

The battery will be charged automatically.

Mobile devices connected to the USB ports are

started and operated via the MMI ðpage 289.

– iPod touch/iPhone malfunctions also affect

operation of the device via the MMI. In this

case, please reset your mobile device.

– Audi recommends that you use the most up-

to-date iPod touch/iPhone software possi-

ble. Please refer to the operating instruc-

tions of your mobile device for important in-

formation.

Disconnecting a mobile device from the USB

port

Unplug the USB adapter from the USB port.

WARNING

Driving on the road always requires your full

attention. As the driver, you have full respon-

sibility for the safety of the vehicle and other

road users. Never operate mobile devices

while the vehicle is moving – risk of accident!

– iPod touch/iPhone 5 and later with Light-

ning connector are supported provided USB

adapters are used on the USB ports.

– You can find a selection of supported devi-

ces in the database of tested mobile devices

at www.audi.com/bluetooth.

CAUTION

– To avoid damage, please take care when un-

plugging the connector from the USB port.

– Use a USB extension cable to connect devi-

ces with an integrated USB connector (e.g.

USB sticks). This will help to avoid damage

to your USB device and the USB port.

Playing media

Media sources

The following media sources can be selected, de-

pending on the vehicle’s equipment:

– USB device ðpage 288.

– Very high or very low temperatures (a com-

mon occurrence in a car's interior) can cause

damage to mobile devices and/or impair

their performance. Please do not leave your

mobile devices in the vehicle when the tem-

perature is very high or very low.

– DVD ðpage 287.

– Connect external device: You can connect ex-

ternal devices via Bluetooth and use the Blue-

tooth audio player ðpage 287. Alternatively,

you can connect an external device directly to

the USB port with charging function

ðpage 288.

– Please always observe the information

ðpage 90.

– When you switch off the ignition, the USB

ports will continue to be supplied with pow-

er as long as the energy management sys-

tem does not intervene.

will be displayed. The symbol for a source may

change depending on the device connected or the

online media service* in use. A USB stick connec-

ted via the USB port with charging function is

shown as an example.

Important: At least one media source must con-

tain media files ðpage 289.

media tab.

Note

The categories displayed in the media centre de-

pend on the vehicle equipment, the device con-

nected, the contents of the selected source and

the connection type:

– If the function ðpage 284, Traffic an-

nouncements or ðpage 284, DAB an-

nouncements is switched on, playback is in-

terrupted for announcements. You can can-

cel an announcement while it is being

played by briefly pressing the MMI control

dial ðpage 36, Fig. 20.

– Last tracks played

– iTunes Radio

– Audiobooks

– Podcasts

– For safety reasons, the video picture is not

available while the vehicle is moving. While

you are driving, only the sound is played.

– Applies to multi-function steering wheel: It

may be necessary to use the MMI to operate

certain functions.

Further categories may be available, depending

on the service.

Playlists

All playlists and smart playlists from the source

will be displayed.

Several categories are available in the media cen-

tre. You can search for media files across differ-

ent sources. Music will still be played from the

active source while you are searching on the MMI.

Folders

The folder structure or the track/title/chapter list

is displayed.



– For safety reasons, the video picture is not

available while the vehicle is moving. While

you are driving, only the sound is played.

– If you synchronise a mobile device with

cloud services, the playlists may not be dis-

played correctly on the MMI. Use the devi-

ce's local media library.

CAUTION

Applies to: vehicles with Audi connect infotainment

– Cloud services and the iTunes Radio catego-

ry always require an internet connection.

– Please observe the information on Audi con-

nect, particularly with regard to connection

costs ð in General information on

page 254.

– Applies to iPod touch/iPhone: Please also

observe the notes on the USB ports with

charging function and supported devices

The slider indicates the current playback position in the track.

To rewind/fast forward: To rewind/fast forward the current track,

move the slider to the right/left.

To change the playback position: Press on the desired playback po-

sition.

DVD functions

Applies to: vehicles with DVD drive

– To set the picture format: Press on the upper

display. Select Picture format > a picture for-

mat > OK ðtable on page 293.

Important: The vehicle must be stationary and a

DVD must be playing.

The following functions are available in the play-

back view:

Please note that not all functions are availa-

ble in all sources and for all touch displays.

– To display the DVD main menu: Press on the

upper display. Press DVD menu.

Search function

Applies to: vehicles with search function

– To operate the DVD main menu: Press on the

desired function.

– To switch to the media functions: Press the up-

per display. Select:  > a chapter, or start the

film on the DVD main menu and press the up-

per display.

You can search for e.g. tracks and artists across

all sources.


