Vehicle equipment

This chapter describes all the standard equip‐

ment, national-market-specific equipment and

optional extras offered in the model series.

Consequently, you will find that it contains de‐

scriptions of items not available in a particular

vehicle on account of a combination of options,

for example, or the constraints applying to cer‐

tain national-market versions. This also applies

to safety-relevant functions and systems.

Snap-in adapter

The snap-in adapter enables:

Storage of the mobile phone.

Charging of the battery.

Connection to the external aerial of the ve‐

hicle.

This ensures better network reception and

uniform reproduction quality.

Country-specific regulations must be observed

when using the corresponding functions and

systems.

Avoid using the keypad of a mobile phone that

has been detected by the vehicle, because this

can result in malfunctions.

formation about the mobile telephones and ex‐

ternal devices with Bluetooth interface that are

supported by the mobile telephone prepara‐

tion option.

Principle

Mobile phones can be connected to the vehi‐

cle via Bluetooth.

Notes

High temperatures can restrict the mobile

phone charging function and affect the ability

of the mobile phone to function correctly.

After being paired, these devices are automati‐

cally detected when the ignition is switched

on, as soon as they are in the vehicle and can

then be operated using the radio, the buttons

on the steering wheel, and by voice control.

Playing music from a mobile phone

Depending on the mobile phone and the in-car

equipment, you can play music data from your

mobile phone via the in-car system.

Once you have paired a compatible mobile

phone with the vehicle you can use the radio,

the buttons on the steering wheel and the

voice control system to operate the mobile

phone.

Using the telephone while the vehicle is

in motion

Only make inputs when traffic activity permits.

As the driver, do not make telephone calls with

the mobile phone in your hand while the vehi‐

cle is in motion; use the hands-free speaking

name of your vehicle on the display.

Bluetooth presettings must be made on

the mobile phone, for example connect

without confirmation or visibility; see Own‐

The Bluetooth name of the vehicle is

shown on the display of the mobile phone.

A number with a minimum of 4 and a maxi‐

mum 16 positions has been specified as

the Bluetooth passkey. Only required for

non-recurring registration.

7. Select the Bluetooth name of the vehicle

on the display of the mobile phone.

Ignition switched on.

Request using the radio or mobile phone to

enter the same Bluetooth passkey.

Bluetooth use is not permitted everywhere.

If pairing fails:

Only connect the mobile phone when the

vehicle is stationary. Otherwise, you may be‐

come distracted and endanger the vehicle oc‐

cupants and other road users.◀

card or the mobile phone itself are transfer‐

red to the vehicle after it has been detec‐

ted, depending on the mobile phone.

Is Bluetooth activated in the vehicle and

the mobile phone? Activate Bluetooth in

the vehicle and the mobile phone.

Do the Bluetooth passkeys for the mobile

phone and vehicle match? Key the same

passkey into the mobile phone and the

radio.

Four mobile phones can be connected.

For a few mobile phones, certain settings

are needed, for example, authorisation or

secure connection, see instruction manual

of the mobile phone.

Duration for passkey input longer than

30 seconds? Repeat the connection at‐

tempt.

Connecting a certain mobile phone

1. Radio-ready state or switch on the ignition.

Too many Bluetooth devices paired to the

mobile phone or the vehicle? If necessary

delete the pairing information for some

other device.

Is the mobile phone in power-save mode or

is the battery low? Charge the mobile

phone using the snap-in adapter or the

charging cable.

You may find that only one mobile phone

can be connected to the vehicle, depend‐

ing on the mobile phone. De-register the

mobile phone from the vehicle and register

and connect only one mobile phone.

Repeatedly press the button to obtain the

position you want.

Disconnecting a mobile phone

Switch the mobile phone off and on again.

Ambient temperatures too high or too low?

Do not expose the mobile phone to ex‐

treme ambient conditions.

Quality of the phone connection is poor.

The vehicle automatically adjusts the volume

of the telephone microphone and the volume

of the call party. Depending on the mobile

phone, the volumes must be adapted if neces‐

sary. Settings are possible only during a call

and must be adjusted separately for each tele‐

phone. The settings are deleted as soon as the

telephone is de-registered.

Bluetooth signal strength can be adjusted

on mobile phone, depends on the model.

Place the mobile phone in the snap-in

adapter or close to the centre console.

Adjust volume of microphone and speak‐

ers.

If you have worked through all the points in the

list and the desired function is still unavailable,

contact hotline support or your Service centre.

The audio sources are muted as soon as a

phone call is conducted through the handsfree

system.

Setting the microphone to mute

The microphone can be muted during active

calls.

Controls

You can use the controls of the radio for the

following functions:

"MUTE"

Accept/reject call.

A muted microphone is automatically reactiva‐

ted when a new call is made.

Dial phone number.

Select number from phonebook.

Incoming call

Dial saved number, for example from list of

accepted calls.

Receiving a call

In conjunction with Business mobile phone

preparation: ConnectedDrive, see

page 149.

If the number of the caller is saved in the pho‐

nebook and is transferred from the network,

the name of the contact is displayed. Other‐

wise only the phone number is displayed.

With ignition and radio readiness off, for exam‐

ple after the remote control has been removed,

an ongoing call can be continued via the

handsfree system for a maximum of 25 mi‐

nutes.

Accepting a call

Press the button on the steering

wheel or the radio.

Turn the knob until the desired volume is

reached. The setting is saved for the remote

control currently in use.

The A-Z list of phonebook entries is available.

If entries with more than one name but the

same number are transferred from the mobile

phone, only one entry is shown.

The way in which phonebook entries are

shown on the radio display might not be the

same as on the display of the mobile phone, for

example the sequence of first name and sur‐

name.

Dialled numbers, received calls and the entries

in the phonebook are saved in lists when the

mobile phone is connected to the vehicle via

Bluetooth.

The arrows indicate that more let‐

ters can be viewed.

If applicable, turn the right knob to view

more letters.

Five lists are available:

of the entry.

"A-Z"

Entries in the phonebook on the SIM card

or the mobile phone, consisting of name

and phone number, sorted in alphabetical

order.

7. Select the entry by pressing the function

button.

The number is dialled.

"TOP8"

The Top 8 list contains the eight most fre‐

quently dialled numbers.

1. Turn the right knob to select the first letter

of the entry and press the knob.

"LAST8"

2. Turn the right knob to select the entry you

want and press the knob.

The last eight numbers dialled are saved.

The most recently dialled number is at the

top of the list.

or

"CALLS"

Press the button on the steering

wheel or radio to dial the number.

The originating numbers of the last eight

accepted calls are saved. This applies only

if the caller's number is transmitted.

The number is dialled.

"MISSED"

The originating numbers of the last eight

calls that were not accepted are saved.

This function is available when a connection

has been set up and the call is being conduc‐

ted by means of the handsfree system.

Editing and dialling a number from the

phonebook

You can edit the number before placing a call.

This change is not saved in the phonebook.

From mobile phone to the handsfree

system

Dialling a number saved in a list

Calls that were started outside the Bluetooth

range of the vehicle can be continued via the

handsfree system when the ignition is

switched on.

To select an entry and establish a connection:

1. Radio-ready state or switch on the ignition.

2.

Press the button.

Depending in the mobile phone, there is an au‐

tomatic switch to the handsfree mode.

3. "TEL"

4. Select the list, for example "TOP8"

If it is not automatically toggled, follow what is

displayed on the mobile phone screen, and

also see the operating instructions for the mo‐

bile phone.

5. Turn the right knob to select the entry and

press the button to dial the number.

Deleting a single entry

1. Select the entry from the list.

From the handsfree system to the

mobile phone

Calls taken via the handsfree system can also

be continued via the mobile phone, depending

on the mobile phone.

DTMF overlap dialling

Using DTMF overlap dialling to access net‐

work services or to control devices, e.g. re‐

mote answer phone access. This requires the

DTMF code.

Then follow what is displayed on the mobile

phone, and also see the operating instructions

for the mobile phone.

Voice control operation

In many instances the system can accept any

of several different spoken commands for a

given function, for example:

Voice phonebook

Adjusting volume

Depending on the equipment available in your

vehicle, it may be necessary to create a sepa‐

rate voice phonebook.

The entries must be made using voice control

and are independent of the memory of the mo‐

bile phone. Up to 50 entries can be set up.

Saving an entry

1. ›Save name‹

Turn the left knob during the announcement.

2. Say the names. Keep to a speaking dura‐

tion of approximately 2 seconds.

The volume is retained even if you change

the volume of other audio sources.

3. When asked to do so by the system, say

the phone number.

The volume is saved for the remote control

currently in use.

Do not use the voice control system for emer‐

gency calls. Under stress, the spoken lan‐

guage and voice pitch can change, which

could unnecessarily delay the connection of

your call.

phasis, and at a normal volume and speed.

the protective cap from the aerial connec‐

tor and from the USB port of the mobile

phone if necessary.

2. With the keys upwards, push the mobile

phone towards the electrical connections

The battery is charged in all vehicle states from

radio-ready onward.
