Opening the tailgate  
WARNING  
‡ꢀ %HIRUHꢀ FORVLQJꢀ WKHꢀ ERQQHWꢁꢀ  
ensure all obstructions are  
removed from around the bonnet  
opening.  
‡ꢀ $OZD\VꢀGRXEOHꢀFKHFNꢀWRꢀEHꢀVXUHꢀ  
that the bonnet is firmly latched  
before driving away. Check there  
is no bonnet open warning light  
or message displayed on the  
instrument cluster. Driving with  
the bonnet opened may cause a  
total loss of visibility, which  
might result in an accident.

‡ꢀ 7KHWDLOJDWHꢀ LVꢀ ORFNHGꢀ RUꢀ XQORFNHGꢀ  
by turning the key to the “Lock” or  
“Unlock” position. (if equipped)  
‡ꢀ 'RꢀQRWꢀPRYHꢀWKHꢀYHKLFOHꢀZLWKꢀWKHꢀ  
bonnet in the raised position, as  
vision is obstructed, which might  
result in an accident, and the  
bonnet could fall or be damaged.

when all doors are locked or  
unlocked with the remote key, smart  
NH\ꢀ RUꢀ FHQWUDOꢀ GRRUꢀ ORFNꢁXQORFNꢀ  
switch. (if quipped with central door  
lock function)

opened by pulling up the tailgate  
outside handle.

In cold and wet climates, door lock and  
door mechanisms may not work prop-  
erly due to free]ing conditions.  
WARNING  
The tailgate swings upward. Make  
sure no objects or people are near  
the rear of the vehicle when open-  
ing the tailgate.

Make certain that you close the  
tailgate before driving your vehi-  
FOHꢂꢀ3RVVLEOHꢀGDPDJHꢀPD\ꢀRFFXUꢀWRꢀ  
the tailgate lift cylinders and  
attaching hardware if the tailgate  
is not closed prior to driving.  
Exhaust fumes  
If you drive with the tailgate  
opened, you will draw dangerous  
exhaust fumes into your vehicle  
which can cause serious injury or  
death to vehicle occupants.  
If you must drive with the tailgate  
opened, keep the air vents and all  
windows open so that additional  
outside air comes into the vehicle.  
Closing the tailgate  
To close the tailgate, lower and push  
down the tailgate firmly. Make sure  
that the tailgate is securely latched.  
WARNING  
WARNING  
Always keep the tailgate lid com-  
pletely closed whilst the vehicle is  
in motion. If it is left open or ajar,  
poisonous exhaust gases contain-  
ing carbon monoxide (CO) may  
enter the vehicle and serious ill-  
ness or death may result.  
Make sure your hands, feet and  
other parts of your body are safely  
out of the way before closing the  
tailgate.  
CAUTION  
Make sure nothing is near the tail-  
gate latch and striker whilst clos-  
ing the tailgate. It may damage the  
tailgate's latch.  
WARNING  
Rear cargo area  
Occupants should never ride in the  
rear cargo area where no restraints  
are available. To avoid injury in the  
event of an accident or sudden  
stops, occupants should always be  
properly restrained.
